DT is like trying to force music theory into a song. 1:03 doesn't sound remotely pleasing to my ears. I can appreciate the level of difficulty, but not the sound of it. I do prefer the solo in Hollow Years

After playing classical piano for many years, I can appreciate contemporary. It's much simpler, yet sounds so much better.

It's like comparing the compositions of Nobou Uematsu or Hiromi to Beethoven.

@Fluffypopcicle Well actually you're wrong. The feel of 12/8 is completely different to 6/4, to write it as 6/4 indicates a feel of 6, whereas 12/8 indicates a feel of 4 with 3 quaver pulses per beat. There is a similar noticeable difference in 10/8 verse 5/4. Simple division doesn't work haha.

Therefore, 8/8 could be grouped into many different ways, for example, two groups of 3 pulses and one group of 2. 4/4 will only ever have 4 pulses. You need to realise that things are the way they are for a reason, it's up to you to investigate it rather than to just make an assumption. Mathematical division doesn't work!

i can count 4/4 if it's an 8/8 beat. i can count 5/4 if it's a 10/8 beat. that's all there is to it. if it's even, than i can cut it in half and count it slower, but still accurately. ask someone who teaches and know music theory professionally, they would say the same thing. an purple = purple. black = black. white = white. you get the picture?

my only complaint about this video is the choice of drum solo for dream theater. the drum solo from Ytse Jam in New York (if you could somehow get your hands on the audio file which i have yet to find) would be most excellent, or the intro to honor thy father. there was too much of the rest of the band over the drum solo, making it somewhat hard to hear. nevertheless, good video
