Panning back and forth back and forth back and forth back and forth makes me want to be sick....refine your technique a bit bro.....other wise very interesting.
My fami;y was a member of this place in the mid 60's. We cought so many corvina off the jetty. Once out on the sea a jet fighter came so close it kicked up a spray. One night I saw a meteor shower and had the strongerst phoressence in the water I have ever seen anywhere. You could see every fish. The Commadore room had a TV and was air conditioned. We spent a lot of time in the pool fighting horse flies. My dad loved the place, but the heat, horse flies and smell drove me away.
sounds like a good buying opportunity to me. i'd be willing to bet if the government invested 3.4 million there, they have bigger plans for it. i see potential here if they learned from their mistakes.
@optical76 This area does have LOTS of potential. While the rest of the buildings out here are quite rundown, this huge lake in the middle of the desert could once again be used for recreational activities - if some sort of public/private funding could be allocated to fix up the water....
@49cop Only a portion (though I'm not sure how much) of the funding came from tax dollars. The long term plan is to entice investors to help with the eventual cleanup and and restoration of the Sea. This area COULD produce a TON of tax revenue (sales, boat rental, hotel tax, and more) once the lake is fixed and people start flocking to this area again. A massive lake in the hot desert would once again be a great opportunity for recreation.
@Brendon00000 The place first started getting abandoned when hundreds of thousands of dead fish began washing ashore. And then there were some major floods. People just never bothered to return after that. This area has some of the cheapest real estate in So Cal.
slworking2 I've enjoyed your previous vidoes of the yacht club (in it's decayed state) you've posted some time back (when I last saw them). Glad to see it's been renovated and that you were around once again to document it's revival. But damn, I missed the grand re-opening (I live in San Bernardino). But that comment about a "Three hour tour" got me laughing so much. You da man!
@guitargods2009 Thanks. Glad you liked the Gilligan's Island reference. I hope to head out to the Salton Sea again in the near future - and will take more pics and vids. :-)
I worked at the North Shore Yacht Club and the motel from 1979 - 1982. Brings back some old memories when the docks were in place and eveything was operational. I'm very happy to see the building being restored. Thank you for the post.
82tilapia: Very cool. The motel was torn down in November of 2008. Yeah, I'm glad that the Yacht Club is being restored, too. Be sure to check out saltonseamuseum (dot) org The place will be reopening very soon.
I was lucky enough to see it last year in December when it was still abandoned and in poor condition. It will be interesting to return and see it like this. I say bring back the pool! It's not everyday you see round-bottom pools.
Me too. I've seen it back when it was completely trashed - and even when the nearby North Shore Motel was still standing (torn down in November of 2008). Yeah - I wish they would have kept the pool.
Great news for that Salton sea area and this great old building. I was just there a few months back taking pics. (Just put them up on youtube) Cant wait to see the transformation. Thank you for sharing your video with us.
@slworking2 Awsome will be looking forward to seeing the grand re-opening maybe someone or yourself will be able to show a video when its finished !!!

I have been visiting the Salton Sea for 30 years. Unless they get good water in that lake it will never succeed.
And if you can hold the camera steady and pan slowly you will have a much improved vid. Thanks for posting it.

@imlegitbetch13 Yeah, now that Riverside County has kicked the museum out of the building, it's probably not getting much visitor traffic anymore.

First thought that came to my mind - when I saw the remains of the shipwreck - was Gilligan's Island. :D
