That money was approved by Congress to go toward Alaskan infrastructure. It could be used for a bridge, roads or anything else deemed appropriate. Also, at that time, earmarks were a widely accepted means of petitioning for monetary appropriations from Congress.

Congress didn't kill the bridge, and didn't cut the funding (thanks, in part, to Obama and Biden, who BOTH voted against killing the bridge).
Eventually, Congress compromised. They kept the bridge funding but removed the "earmark" provision, thereby giving Alaska the option of reallocating the money -- which Palin gutsily did.
There was nothing gutsy about it. The bridge had become a national embarresment. It was massivly unpopular in alaska she saw the way the wind was blowing and when the congress removed the earmark that she had faught and campaigned for she pretended it was at her insistance. It was not. National fury was the cause. That said she is still building the read that would have lead to the bridge. Its now the road to nowhere.

Earmarks are a joke and a tiny fraction of government budgets. The fact that these two were carrying on so much about them is laughable. In her defense, however, she did squash over 300 earmarks her first year in office as governor. If you really want to cut spending though, you need to do it through long-term entitlement costs. Unless you look at the polls and it shows that Biden won 51-39 percent. (10 percent undecided) Biden wasn't allowed to attack her, it would make him look like a dick and turn sympathy support to palin. At most, this could be considered a flip-flop. In the end, she did oppose it. As for the $223 million in Federal funds to build the bridge, that is where the media is distorting the facts. That money was approved by Congress to go toward Alaskan infrastructure. It could be used for a bridge, roads or anything else deemed appropriate. Also, at that time, earmarks were a widely accepted means of petitioning for monetary appropriations from Congress.

No, ElectrickZebra, Palin did not lie about anything. Team Obama has been lying by claiming that Congress, rather than Palin, killed the bridge. That's not true. Congress didn't kill the bridge, and didn't cut the funding (thanks, in part, to Obama and Biden, who BOTH voted against killing the bridge).
Eventually, Congress compromised. They kept the bridge funding but removed the "earmark" provision, thereby giving Alaska the option of reallocating the money -- which Palin gutsily did.

There was nothing gutsy about it. The bridge had become a national embarresment. It was massivly unpopular in alaska she saw the way the wind was blowing and when the congress removed the earmark that she had faught and campaigned for she pretended it was at her insistance. It was not. National fury was the cause. That said she is still building the read that would have lead to the bridge. Its now the road to nowhere.
She flipped at the first sign of trouble and lied about it and continues to.

A key lesson of WWII is that it is folly to let evil fester and grow. France could have easily stopped Hitler with little loss of life, if they'd done it early, when his treaty violations became apparent. Tragically, they lacked the political will.
Fortunately, President Bush learned that lesson well, so Saddam & Qaddafi are no longer developing nuclear weapons.

Actually the negotiations had been going on for over two years. They began in october 2001, after 9/11. After succesful negotiations on the Lockerbie bombing concluded in march (Lybia probably had nothing to do with it, but they accepted responsibility for strategic reasons), the talks expanded to larger issues and continued for another 9 months. Saddams capture and the Iraq war had sod all to do with any of it. The deal was allready pretty much hammered out by dec 15 and was announced dec 20.
