KATHOLIKOS MEANS UNIVERSAL WHICH INCLUDES ALL RELIGIONS AROUND THE WORLD, PAST, PRESENT, AND FUTURE INCLUDING THE CHURCHES YOU BELONG TO.... IT IS THE TRUE CHURCH/RELIGION ALL IN ONE!!!!!
Many of my friends(?) condemn me to hell because I'm Catholic. I do not condemn them but leave them to God as well as placing myself in God's Hands. I can accept Protestants can have genuine religious experiences and I must also state that I have grown to love God, Jesus, His Church and Mary... My heartfelt witness. @DougtheKnight1 "This people honoreth Me with their lips but their hearts are far from me. And the worship me in vain teaching as doctrines the commandments of men." -St. Matthew 15:8-9. Protestants are seduced and condemn us because we are faithful to the Lord and the church He founded 2,000 years ago. There's only one person who took my sins and your sins and who sits upon the Father's right hand and that man is Jesus Christ. Not Buddha, not Muhammad, not Luther, Calvin or anyone else.
@HomeSkillet489 "teaching as doctrines the commandments of men." is a perfect description of the RC clergy. Protestants (of the past, at least) were tortured and murdered by the RC church for rejecting "the commandments of men" to practice the pure doctrine of the written word of God.
I must testify to the truth of/t Catholic Church. It is both divine and a human institution. I notice Beacon did not fully quote several of the teachings of the church. Even St Paul recognize that pagans shared element of religious truthes but lacked the truth of the revelation of Christ. Hindus.., Buddists... are only responsible to God in the context of their willful corroperation with His grace and the knowledge thereof. Pray for unity- The Body Christ. Lets pray for each other in charity
@DougtheKnight1 Well, you certainly can have your dead sacraments and lame excuses for remaining on the broad way to destruction, but as for me and my house, we have the FREE GIFT of God by faith alone. As for unity, the Bible says there is coming a one world government and religion, with the ant christ in charge. Will you take the mark and worship the beast if you are alive at that time?
@BereanBeacon1 We in the Catholic Church do not believe in earning our way to salvation. Christ is our salvation and we are saved by grace alone. and that grace was earned for us on the cross and is received through the sacraments instituted by Christ. But by faith and works, Christ is working in us and making us right before God the Almighty Father. Read James 2:24, Ephesians 2:10 and many others. God bless.
@HomeSkillet489 So, in other words a Catholic doesn't earn salvation per se, but a Catholic must earn grace "by faith and works". I used to be Catholic, I've since learned to see through the doubletalk. In fact, Jesus didn't die to ENABLE us to earn God's grace, He IS the way. By faith, that is trusting in His sacrifice ALONE--apart from works--is the way of salvation. The Catholic Church proclaims a compromised, false gospel.
@guysiddyfo Fundamentalists like you always say stuff about the Catholic church like, "They believe that you re-sacrifice Jesus in the mass. You are saved only by your own good works. They believe that Mary is greater than God, etc." I constantly tell them, "No, we do not believe that!" And yet, Fundamentalists like you always say, "No, this is what you believe!" I know my faith, I should know what I believe. "For we see that by works a man is justified and NOT by faith alone." (James 2:24) GB
@opbfpastor It's either that or he's lying about the faith because half the stuff that Richard Bennett says about RCC is false. He was a Catholic priest now a fundamnetalist who has made anti-Catholicism his full-time business. He trash talks Catholicism and does absolutely nothing else. Many fundamnetalists think, "Oh this man has come out of the whore and exposes her for what it really is, we need to use his words on our family and friends that are Catholic and we need to get them saved."
@opbfpastor It's possible that he knows what Catholicism really teaches, but he never mentions it. Almost everything he says about the church is a lie. Either he never knew what real Catholicism was or he did but is not telling the truth. I've said that 1000 times! You Fundamentalists are all the same, you'll continue to ask the same question over and over again until you get the answer you want and when we tell you what we really believe, you'll make it look like I have nothing to say.
@HomeSkillet489 I never heard of Richard Bennett. I do find it interesting that you label as "liars" people who have come out of RC-ism and know it all too well. Cults do exactly the same thing about former members who seek to warn others about the cult. You might want to abandon that line of argument. Jus' sayin'.
@opbfpastor However, his words are very scandalous and he often lies about the church. So, the only possible answer remaining is that he never knew what "real" Catholicism is, or he knew what it was and is lying about it and scandalizing and slandering it. God bless.
@HomeSkillet489 Transubstantiation is the doctrine that the host and wine actually BECOME the substance of the body and blood of Christ (tho not in appearance), and that each Mass is an actual sacrifice of the Body and Blood. Just ask a priest about it. The problem with unrepentant Catholics is that they don't understand the full implications of RC doctrines. Like I said, I been one, I know how the Catholic mind works.
@guysiddyfo You're taking what I'm saying out of context. You're making it look like I'm saying that Christ's sacrifice enabled us to receive the sacraments. No, on the contrary; he enabled the sacraments to receive his redemption from the cross. Christ's sacrifice was 2,000 years ago, He's made a way for us to go to it today. You're making it look like I'm saying, "Jesus gave us the way." No, on the contrary; "He (the WAY) gave ways (small w) to get us to Himself.
@HomeSkillet489 putting "sacraments" between the believer and Christ IS putting a religious work in the way salvation, "salvation by works" by your own definition. Jesus did NOT "give ways" (small or big w), He IS the way, He Himself! He said "This is the work of God; to BELIEVE on Him whom He has sent." And yes, Jesus did die in our place 2000 years ago. So Why is He sacrificed AGAIN at every Mass? That is what RC teaches, re: transubstantiation.
@guysiddyfo You obvously never knew Catholicism for what it really was before you left. And if you did, you must either not remeber it or you are slandering it, scandalizing it, and lying about it. By the crucifixion, death, burial, and ressurection of our Divine Lord, God, and Savior Jesus Christ on the Cross, not only did He reopen the Gates of Heaven, but He gave us all grace necissary for salvation. Only by Him and in Him and with Him are we saved. GB
@HomeSkillet489 I DO know what RC-ism is about, that's why I left. When I was RC, I would say essentially what you profess to believe, but that is not the COMPLETE RC doctrine, which is that one must "access" that saving grace through the sacraments. RC-ism puts religious works (and a lot of other things) between the believer and Christ. That's "another gospel". Biblically, I "access" the benefits of Christ's sacrifice by BELIEVING it applies to me. That is Biblical faith.
@BereanBeacon1 Right on! In fact the Pope is himself working full time to bring about that "unity" under a global "faith". It's Pope Benedict's stated purpose.
Phyllis "EAR TICKLER" is a witch and blasphemer-speaking evil of the Holy and True WORD OF GOD. Reprobate, she is going to destruction, do not follow her to the pit.
Scriptural references to purgatory: all 30, or so, of them, for what it's worth...
(scripture catholic dot com)
I would venture that one of the main reasons the world is becoming more intolerant, and even hostile, towards Christianity, is the truly vicious and legalistic bigotry (as amply demonstrated on this fora) that is being recriminated between the various denominations -what a deplorable witness to the secular world!
@SteveatMaranatha You cannot understand because you are spiritually dead and according to the Bible love darkness.
But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned. 1Corinthians 2:14
And this is the condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil. John 3:19
@SteveatMaranatha fundamentalism began in the early 20th century. 1900 years after Christ. They claim they are the true chosen ones called by God. Yet they claim they have no religion. I've been told this by a fundie once, "We are Bible believers. We have no religion. Religion leads to Hell." Well, you claim you are "Christian." Christianity is a religion my friends! Fundamentlaists are hateful angry wolves in sheeps clothing passing themselves off as sheep of the Lamb. BLESSED BE THE LAMB!
I never said that Gandhi had divine attributes, as you seem to be implying, onlly Jesus has these. What Gandhi did espouse, like many other holy men and women from across different faiths, was the primacy of love of God and love of one's neighbour -esp if that neighbour was of a different religion or culture to his own!
"By this all men will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another." (John 13:35)
This video, constitutes an unapologetically ad-hominem attack on Catholicism! An attack which attempts to write off 2000 years of Christian biblical, theological and sacred tradition in 47 mins! It begs the question, what, if anything positive, do they really stand for? How can a former Dominican be beguiled by such simplistic parochialism?
"You are Peter, and on this rock I will build my Church, and the gates of hell will not prevail against it" (Matt. 16:18) -Origin of Christianity.
Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat: Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it. Beware of false prophets, which come to you in sheep's clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves. Matthew 7:13-15
@SteveatMaranatha - one verse taken out of context is what you base your entire trust in Catholic theology? Where is the Biblical reference to pergatory? The entire book of Hebrews dismantles the "mass" and it's "transubstantiation" and "resacrifice" of the Lord over and over. Your right it is an attack on Catholicism, and a loving warning to Catholics that the system lies to you-"makes merchandise of you" as it once did me and still does most of my family.
Jesus did indeed say, "by their FRUITS will you know them"; there's certainly no love lost here! I can understand R.B's longing for a Christian renewal in the world, but the surest way to prevent one happening is to preach a tirade of intolerance to everyone else who doesn't share your very literal take.
"It is easy enough to be friendly to one's friends. But to befriend the one who
regards himself as your enemy is the quintessence of true religion. The other is mere business."...Gandhi.
@SteveatMaranatha - Jesus had zero tolerance for false teaching. Almost every book of the New Testament has a warning of false teachers that will increase. Tells us to test all teaching against the Word, that all will be fulfilled down to one "jot or tittle". Gandhi didn't create all that was created, Gandhi didn't die in my place, Gandhi isn't God made flesh-Gandhi isn't returning to gather his church to himself and judge the nations. You offer religion, Jesus offers salvation.
Con't..While Catholicism continues, together with the Eastern Orthodox, Anglo-Catholic and other high-church traditions, to look outwards towards the rest of humanity, it appears, that sadly, the fundamentalists continue in their relentless crusade of bigotry and fear-mongering to engender division, both between relgions, and between secular society; the biggest threat to all of us is militant religious *and secular) fundamentalism and intolerance; continued...
@SteveatMaranatha Did you ever consider that when your priests aren't molesting children they are dying of aids because of their relationships with homosexuals? Did your ever consider the hundreds of millions of dollars paid out to the victims? Did your ever consider the "tirade" against true Christians during the inquisition? "by their FRUITS will you know them", look in a mirror. Your biggest threat is the God of the Bible.
I totally concur with 'Phantom1539'; I also appreciate the teachings and quotes from the Catholic mystical tradition; although they are cited in the above video in a negative context -they are at least being publicised. It's staggering how Roman Catholicism is, even today, totally misconstrued; granted like all religions, it is not without its shortcomings, but while it continues, together with the Eastern Orthodox, Anglo-Catholic and other high-church traditions, to look outwards ..Con't
As scripture clearly teaches, "Satan deceives the WHOLE WORLD!" The whole law of God hangs on the first two commandments: Love God and love your neighbor. The various denominations agree on this but differ on everything else. The worst deception of Satan is the doctrine of the trinity. This lie affects not only the RCC but most protestant denoms. Sadly, when they "came out of her" they kept the bad (the profaned Sabbath and holidays and the trinity) and threw away the good (holiness and works).
As a Catholic who is also interested in the Emerging church, I actually appreciate this video for all the teachings it quotes from. :D Also, I have to point out that "Sola Scriptura" is not found in the Bible, ironically. Nor do the writings of the Apostolic Church refer to it. This idea of "Bible Only" is an invention of the middle ages and is neither Christian nor Biblical. Timothy 3:15 says, "THE CHURCH, which is the pillar and ground of the truth."
@phantom1539 - perhaps not verbatum but it certainly says it. Compells us to test all teaching against it, the Bereans in Acts when witnessed to were commended for "searching the scripture daily to see if these things were true" - Scripture is described as "God breathed", "thy Word is truth", we're told to study it, bind it in our hearts and minds, warned to not listen to any other doctrine "even if from an angel from heaven"-warned to not add to or detract from it...it goes on and on.
@policydeb8er321 There is no unity in Catholic doctrine. They keep changing their doctrines. They have excommunicated many popes. Mary was not always known to be 'immaculate'. And now, apparently, there is no such thing as Hell, according to dear infallible Rome. You have to laugh!
Yeah, we're definitely the son of the devil. That's why we've been united in doctrine for 2,000 years old and the successor of the Pope is St. Peter.
Wow... This is just sick! It is becoming and occuring just like GOD said it would. Let our Voices be HEARD Saints! Children of the Living GOD! Let them be HEARD! Speak up! satan is! Be BOLDER than he! Luke 10:19 "Behold, I give unto you power to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy: and nothing shall by any means hurt you."
@Enigmatik691 "Who elected this stupid trash to keep preaching his filth on catholicism "
Richard Bennett left his family and friends in 1956 to study to join the Dominican Order and studied to be a monk. He was ordained a priest in 1963 and completed studies of Thomas Aquinas at The Angelicum University in Rome.
He left the Roman Catholic Church in November 1985 when he saw that life in Jesus Christ was not possible while remaining true to Roman Catholic doctrine.
@crawprincess87 I do not usually write comments, but your question deserves an answer. Prayer is a form of worship. Only God is to be worshiped. Mary is not God. Therefore, prayer to her is blasphemy against God.
@tomwduda prayer is conversation. worship is exalting. dont you ask your pastor to pray for you. and who told you catholic worship mary? so sad you trying to be smart but no. Jesus loves you...
@mariatinaza Who told me that Catholics worship Mary? Why, the Roman Catholic church did. I was raised Roman Catholic and was educated in all Catholic doctrines, each of which I could defend. I vividly remember Vatican II, which was an epochal period for all Catholics. However, the doctrines did not change. Weekly novenas to Mary were only one small part of the worship that Catholics directed to her.
@tomwduda well, sorry to hear about the poor catechism your church practices. And im so sorry to hear that your church never taught you to distinguish between prayer and worship. It is also sad that the only part of being Christian the church is Mary. If you read the Gospel of Luke carefully she wouldnt be a problem to your ultimate faith in Christ Jesus. it is also sad your childhood church only educate doctrines to you. Thank God we dont have poor biblical catechism in Church nowadays.
@mariatinaza When I attended Marquette University, I was taught catechism by Jesuit priests. The doctrines of their catechism exactly matched the doctrines that I were previously taught throughout my childhood years. The catechism of my childhood was the Baltimore Catechism . It was and is highly regarded. I still have mine. I also have the new catechism that bears the Imprimatur of Joseph Cardinal Ratzinger. Also, prayer IS worship. Finally, doctrine IS faith.
Short answer: yes. Chuck has gotten old; his mind is not as good as it was and he is intellectually too weak to respond appropriately. Chuck surprises me, Greg Laurie and Skip Heitzig? Not so much.
"Come out of her my people"! She is the whore of Babylon! Where do you find the Rosary for prayer in the Bible? We are not to have idols. The Holy Virgin Mother is Isis holding baby Horus (not Jesus). Yes, the Catholic Church is demonic. The Jesuits were invoved in starting all wars. Look up the Pope, Jesuits, Knights of Malta, Rosecrucians, Popes Army! People have been deceived, I know I was! Come out of her, I did!
@Indutrial321 Acc. to the 2nd Law of Thermodynamics, the whole universe is doomed to run down like a clock and just lie there a corpse 4ever. But the Bible says that God, Who created the universe, cursed it in hope (Gen 3:17-19, Rom 8:19-21); b/c of Christ Who conquered sin and death by His life, death (by which He paid for OUR sins), and Resurrection, the universe will be burned up and GOD will establish a New heavens and earth (2 Pet 3:13), with a new science. Jesus Christ will reign forever.
@Indutrial321 Well, well., A rational voice is heard. Who said that the Age of Miracles is gone? Of course, it depends on what brand of science is employed. The only valid type of science is Observation, Test, Repeat. Awfully hard to observe, test and repeat some things. But, simply because we cannot observe, test and repeat experiments on some things does not mean that those things do not exist.
Thank You Lord Jesus Christ for such godly men disclosing the Wickedness of "Mysticism', Emergent Church practices...
For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears...
What was presented in the first quarter of this video was an abbreviation of Catholic understanding of other religions. They made it clear they accept only what is true in other religions. They did not believe that all teachings of other religions are true. If so, they would not feel the need to preach the Gospel to all nations. Catholics believe that Christ is unique. The comment about 'valid ways' is not an official Catholic position, but the opinion of one man.
He messed up in the beginning definition of Mysticism, it does mean union with God. But, man does not reach union with God on his own, man reaches God with God. Is he really denying there is a divine element in every human being? I thought it was called free will?
1. Offering prayers (or prayer requests) to saints?
2. pope as the Vicar of Christ?
3. LITERAL blood and body in the wine and bread?
4. Popish infallibility?
5. Calling priest Father?
6. Indulgences?
7. Purgatory?
I realize tradition is on par with scripture in the RCC, but would not have God at least hinted at these "doctrines" in His Word? No thank you, I'll stick to Sola Scriptura. It seems as if the death/ressurection means nothing in RCC theology, you still have many works to be done
Every one of those doctrines is hinted at in scripture, thank you very much. Anyway, Jesus work on the cross is seen in the Catholic church today much as it was in the first century church,. That we are saved by faith, but that works are still important. God put you here to do a lot more than just "get saved", as if you had no value whatsoever outside of Jesus redeeming you!
Fraid not...all of those are extra-biblical; I would be interested seeing some references for these hints. You do not present a relevant argument because the church itself admits they are not biblical and makes no claim of the kind. Thier "authority" is one which can create doctrine apart from scripture. You may want to look into that further. Your church is apostate. Most protestants are too. The priestcraft, doctrines of devils, and false teachers will all be judged quite soon. On both sides.
Well, right now these doctrines are not my focus, as I question them myself. But the RCC has always maintained that scripture and tradition flow together, not separately. Especially since these doctrines are proven to predate the actual compilation of the Bible itself, which didn't seem to be a problem for the "Apostate" church which put the Bible together. For instance... Jesus not only told Peter "You are Cephas and upon this Cephas I will build my church" ...
but also gave him "the keys to the kingdom" and singled him out even from the other Apostles so that, "whatever you bind on Earth will be bound in heaven and whatever you lose on Earth will be loosed in heaven" (although He said this to all of them elsewhere.) The early church developed this into the papacy. But hey man, with your zeal for the gospel, I encourage you to learn about these things yourself. You don't seem to even know the points of the debate :P Peace!
I respect the goal of the RCC, Christ intended us to be one body. But their doctrines are for the most part an abomination. The Holy Trinity, and rejecting false scriptures (with a few exceptions i.e. ecclesiasticus, baruch etc) were great, but thats about it. It is debateable whether that was the same RCC as existed during the Reformation. But I pray God continues to convict you of those false teachings and guides you to the most Holy and true faith that is in Christ Jesus.
You haven't addressed anything I said...? Again, you show that you don't even know the first thing about the debate. Check out the writings of the early church between 90 and 200 AD and you'll be singing a different tune. The Roman Catholic Church has a wealth of beauty to offer you, whether you "agree" with it or not.
This will go nowhere. You can insult me if you like, but it has no basis. You must repent, not because I disagree...but because God commands you to. PERIOD. God has taught me plenty on these subjects, but in the end my knowledge has nothing to do with this. You and your salvation are what is at stake here...pray about it and let the scripture guide you not the RCC lies. I shake the dust from my feet as a witness against you. PEACE
Just for the record... I didn't mean to insult you, just be bold. I apologize if I was uncharitable. Merely pointing out that you don't seem to know the actual points of the debate. Rather, its insulting to imply that Catholics salvation is in danger over doctrinal differences. I work with Christians of all Creeds, as long as we acknowledge Christ as Lord and Savior. When we don't have reason, we just collapse into a sub-human morass of non-engagement.
Acknowledging Christ properly is not enough to ensuer salvation. I cannot stress this enough. We are to worship God ALONE and no other gods. Many jews in the OT worshipped Yahweh...and Baal, could they have claimed their inheritance based on that even if they had extra gods on the side? The most vile lie in all the world is Marian co-redeemer status and prayer to her and saints. This is not just a doctrinal difference but a clear disregard for God and plain idolatry which surely annuls salvation
Mystics have a desire to communicate and know God albeit their method is seen as wrong by the Catholic Church. But what about the vast majority of people who have been disgusted by the Church for decades and now with the Catholic Preists that have sexually abused children! I wish Church leaders would come forward with a similar zeal to explain and talk about how the clergy of the Catholic Church, through their actions, has turned souls sour to the name of God.
Jesus Christ gave us the Lord's Prayer which addresses "Our Father" at the beginning of the prayer... should this be changed since this prayer asks that the praying person address God directly?
Wow great video! You either have the religion of Grace or works. The Catholic spirituality you earn God's presence through means. In Grace you are given it through Regeneration. One you strive the other you just believe even though you don't feel it. Thanks
Considering how the Roman Catholic Church began, this is hardly unexpected!
Its first Pope, Peter Magus, a Sorcerer, had every intention of merging ALL PAGAN RELIGIONS of the time into ONE CATHOLIC (UNIVERSAL) CHURCH! View "Is Apostolic Succession Biblical? Part 1" by BereanBeacon
This is STILL the intention! The Fatima Shrine has already been designated an INTERFAITH SHRINE!
The Roman Catholic Church has never ceased to PROSTITUTE itself, it to be the GREAT WHORE IN THE REVELATION OF JOHN!
you know nothing about early christianity and the Church JEsus established. The first Pope was Peter and the next was Linous and then the fourth was Pope clement. Go research up the true christian church before you spread rediculous propaganda
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
I think who gives a fuck what the cathlic church thinks, the cathlic church is a intertution which is growing old an its followers are old the yuong are not joining the church in the west,in twenty to thirty years the cathlic church will be nothink.
It gets MUCH DARKER and MUCH MORE SINISTER the more you study this. In fact.... the road leads to the angel of light - Lucifer - if you follow it deep enough. I took a look for myself and that's what is lurking at the end of the path of the "emergent church"/"Catholic church"/"Jesuits"/"mysticism" etc. It's all Luciferian at the core.
Most people have no idea and are like innocent sheep.
walter veith is of the seventh day adventist occult which is in bed with catholicism. Both of which commit spiritual fornication not belonging to the Lord Jesus Christ.
God have mercy on us.

Then when I read and hear what's going on in the church today, I literally become sick to my stomach.
I know these times before the return of our Lord is inevitable. Even so come Lord Jesus!

@opbfpastor However, his words are very scandalous and he often lies about the church. So, the only possible answer remaining is that he never knew what "real" Catholicism is, or he knew what it was and is lying about it and scandalizing and slandering it. God bless.
HomeSkillet489 1 month ago
@HomeSkillet489 Transubstantiation is the doctrine that the host and wine actually BECOME the substance of the body and blood of Christ (tho not in appearance), and that each Mass is an actual sacrifice of the Body and Blood. Just ask a priest about it. The problem with unrepentant Catholics is that they don't understand the full implications of RC doctrines. Like I said, I been one, I know how the Catholic mind works.
guysiddyfo 1 month ago
@guysiddyfo You're taking what I'm saying out of context. You're making it look like I'm saying that Christ's sacrifice enabled us to receive the sacraments. No, on the contrary; he enabled the sacraments to receive his redemption from the cross. Christ's sacrifice was 2,000 years ago, He's made a way for us to go to it today. You're making it look like I'm saying, "Jesus gave us the way." No, on the contrary; "He (the WAY) gave ways (small w) to get us to Himself.
HomeSkillet489 1 month ago
@HomeSkillet489 putting "sacraments" between the believer and Christ IS putting a religious work in the way salvation, "salvation by works" by your own definition. Jesus did NOT "give ways" (small or big w), He IS the way, He Himself! He said "This is the work of God; to BELIEVE on Him whom He has sent." And yes, Jesus did die in our place 2000 years ago. So Why is He sacrificed AGAIN at every Mass? That is what RC teaches, re: transubstantiation.
guysiddyfo 1 month ago
@guysiddyfo You obvously never knew Catholicism for what it really was before you left. And if you did, you must either not remeber it or you are slandering it, scandalizing it, and lying about it. By the crucifixion, death, burial, and ressurection of our Divine Lord, God, and Savior Jesus Christ on the Cross, not only did He reopen the Gates of Heaven, but He gave us all grace necissary for salvation. Only by Him and in Him and with Him are we saved. GB
HomeSkillet489 1 month ago
@HomeSkillet489 I DO know what RC-ism is about, that's why I left. When I was RC, I would say essentially what you profess to believe, but that is not the COMPLETE RC doctrine, which is that one must "access" that saving grace through the sacraments. RC-ism puts religious works (and a lot of other things) between the believer and Christ. That's "another gospel". Biblically, I "access" the benefits of Christ's sacrifice by BELIEVING it applies to me. That is Biblical faith.
guysiddyfo 1 month ago
@BereanBeacon1 Right on! In fact the Pope is himself working full time to bring about that "unity" under a global "faith". It's Pope Benedict's stated purpose.

SteveatMaranatha 9 months ago
Jesus also had zero tolerance for the religious bigots and fundamentalists of his
day (namely, the Pharisees!). No doubt if modern-day biblical fundamentalists
were around when Jesus was talking to the Roman centurion, they would have
bellowed (in unison with their Pharisaical prefigurative types), "Hey, that's
apostasy, talking to that evil pagan!"
The modern equivalent would be any kind of interfaith dialogue in a spirit of love
-this would be truly evil!

But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned. 1Corinthians 2:14

Your right it is an attack on Catholicism, and a loving warning to Catholics that the system lies to you-"makes merchandise of you" as it once did me and still does most of my family.
carriebrk 9 months ago
Jesus did indeed say, "by their FRUITS will you know them"; there's certainly no love lost here! I can understand R.B's longing for a Christian renewal in the world, but the surest way to prevent one happening is to preach a tirade of intolerance to everyone else who doesn't share your very literal take.
"It is easy enough to be friendly to one's friends. But to befriend the one who
regards himself as your enemy is the quintessence of true religion. The other is mere business."...Gandhi.
SteveatMaranatha 10 months ago
@SteveatMaranatha - Jesus had zero tolerance for false teaching. Almost every book of the New Testament has a warning of false teachers that will increase. Tells us to test all teaching against the Word, that all will be fulfilled down to one "jot or tittle". Gandhi didn't create all that was created, Gandhi didn't die in my place, Gandhi isn't God made flesh-Gandhi isn't returning to gather his church to himself and judge the nations. You offer religion, Jesus offers salvation.

I totally concur with 'Phantom1539'; I also appreciate the teachings and quotes from the Catholic mystical tradition; although they are cited in the above video in a negative context -they are at least being publicised. Sadly, when they "came out of her" they kept the bad (the profaned Sabbath and holidays and the trinity) and threw away the good (holiness and works).
orinvee 11 months ago
As a Catholic who is also interested in the Emerging church, I actually appreciate this video for all the teachings it quotes from. :D Also, I have to point out that "Sola Scriptura" is not found in the Bible, ironically. Nor do the writings of the Apostolic Church refer to it. This idea of "Bible Only" is an invention of the middle ages and is neither Christian nor Biblical. Timothy 3:15 says, "THE CHURCH, which is the pillar and ground of the truth."
phantom1539 11 months ago
@phantom1539 - perhaps not verbatum but it certainly says it. Compells us to test all teaching against it, the Bereans in Acts when witnessed to were commended for "searching the scripture daily to see if these things were true" - Scripture is described as "God breathed", "thy Word is truth", we're told to study it, bind it in our hearts and minds, warned to not listen to any other doctrine "even if from an angel from heaven"-warned to not add to or detract from it...it goes on and on.

mariatinaza 1 year ago
@mariatinaza Who told me that Catholics worship Mary? Why, the Roman Catholic church did. I was raised Roman Catholic and was educated in all Catholic doctrines, each of which I could defend. I vividly remember Vatican II, which was an epochal period for all Catholics. However, the doctrines did not change. Weekly novenas to Mary were only one small part of the worship that Catholics directed to her.
tomwduda 1 year ago
@tomwduda well, sorry to hear about the poor catechism your church practices. And im so sorry to hear that your church never taught you to distinguish between prayer and worship. It is also sad that the only part of being Christian the church is Mary. If you read the Gospel of Luke carefully she wouldnt be a problem to your ultimate faith in Christ Jesus. it is also sad your childhood church only educate doctrines to you. Thank God we dont have poor biblical catechism in Church nowadays.
mariatinaza 1 year ago
@mariatinaza When I attended Marquette University, I was taught catechism by Jesuit priests. The doctrines of their catechism exactly matched the doctrines that I were previously taught throughout my childhood years. The catechism of my childhood was the Baltimore Catechism . It was and is highly regarded. I still have mine. I also have the new catechism that bears the Imprimatur of Joseph Cardinal Ratzinger. Also, prayer IS worship. Finally, doctrine IS faith.

The comment about 'valid ways' is not an official Catholic position, but the opinion of one man.
solovief 1 year ago
He messed up in the beginning definition of Mysticism, it does mean union with God. But, man does not reach union with God on his own, man reaches God with God. Is he really denying there is a divine element in every human being? I thought it was called free will?

I realize tradition is on par with scripture in the RCC, but would not have God at least hinted at these "doctrines" in His Word? No thank you, I'll stick to Sola Scriptura. It seems as if the death/ressurection means nothing in RCC theology, you still have many works to be done
MMang86 1 year ago
Every one of those doctrines is hinted at in scripture, thank you very much. Anyway, Jesus work on the cross is seen in the Catholic church today much as it was in the first century church,. That we are saved by faith, but that works are still important. God put you here to do a lot more than just "get saved", as if you had no value whatsoever outside of Jesus redeeming you!
phantom1539 1 year ago
Fraid not...all of those are extra-biblical; I would be interested seeing some references for these hints. You do not present a relevant argument because the church itself admits they are not biblical and makes no claim of the kind. Thier "authority" is one which can create doctrine apart from scripture. You may want to look into that further. Your church is apostate. Most protestants are too. The priestcraft, doctrines of devils, and false teachers will all be judged quite soon. On both sides.
MMang86 1 year ago

You don't seem to even know the points of the debate :P Peace!
phantom1539 1 year ago
I respect the goal of the RCC, Christ intended us to be one body. But their doctrines are for the most part an abomination. The Holy Trinity, and rejecting false scriptures (with a few exceptions i.e. ecclesiasticus, baruch etc) were great, but thats about it. It is debateable whether that was the same RCC as existed during the Reformation. But I pray God continues to convict you of those false teachings and guides you to the most Holy and true faith that is in Christ Jesus.
MMang86 1 year ago
You haven't addressed anything I said...? Again, you show that you don't even know the first thing about the debate. Check out the writings of the early church between 90 and 200 AD and you'll be singing a different tune. The Roman Catholic Church has a wealth of beauty to offer you, whether you "agree" with it or not.
phantom1539 1 year ago
This will go nowhere. You can insult me if you like, but it has no basis. You must repent, not because I disagree...but because God commands you to. PERIOD. God has taught me plenty on these subjects, but in the end my knowledge has nothing to do with this. You and your salvation are what is at stake here...pray about it and let the scripture guide you not the RCC lies. I shake the dust from my feet as a witness against you. PEACE
MMang86 1 year ago
Just for the record... I didn't mean to insult you, just be bold. I apologize if I was uncharitable. Merely pointing out that you don't seem to know the actual points of the debate. Rather, its insulting to imply that Catholics salvation is in danger over doctrinal differences. I work with Christians of all Creeds, as long as we acknowledge Christ as Lord and Savior. When we don't have reason, we just collapse into a sub-human morass of non-engagement.
phantom1539 1 year ago
Acknowledging Christ properly is not enough to ensuer salvation. I cannot stress this enough. We are to worship God ALONE and no other gods. Many jews in the OT worshipped Yahweh...and Baal, could they have claimed their inheritance based on that even if they had extra gods on the side? The most vile lie in all the world is Marian co-redeemer status and prayer to her and saints. This is not just a doctrinal difference but a clear disregard for God and plain idolatry which surely annuls salvation
MMang86 1 year ago
Mystics have a desire to communicate and know God albeit their method is seen as wrong by the Catholic Church. But what about the vast majority of people who have been disgusted by the Church for decades and now with the Catholic Preists that have sexually abused children! I wish Church leaders would come forward with a similar zeal to explain and talk about how the clergy of the Catholic Church, through their actions, has turned souls sour to the name of God.
