This is not a black ice - it's just wet road, bad asphalt quality and unawared drivers. All that happens in maritime town of Rijeka in Croatia, and the ice is not so common there, especially in May.

the tires on the beetle would make it worse. You have very little traction on ice, more surface area would give you more traction/friction/handling. The main thing is the Volswagon driver was experienced and the car had already left the ice before it crossed the yellow line.

@i3ond I know in the rain skinny tires helps. My dad seen a Porsche pass a bettle but the beetle passed the porsche back when it started raining heavy because the Porshe was hydroplaning because of the wide tires.

@i3ond skinny tires are better for ice because there is more pounds per inch on the tires touching the pavement/ice. think about it, if we had wide blades for ice skating, all you would do is slide. instead the extremely narrow blades put more pressure on the ice/ which means more traction, same thing for automobiles. although i can see why most people think wide tires would help. but in reality they make it much harder for ice and snow driving.

Judging from the car models this must be somwhere in the former Yugoslavia... Serbia, Croatia, or Bosnia... However, the only reason tthe white car, legendary FIAT 750, managed to stay on the road is because that car can only go that fast... it has something like 30hp, so that's why it didn't spin out of control...
