Soldiers had a hard time figuring out who was friend and foe. You would have "friendly" vietnamese that would cooperate with U.S. soldiers during the day and then when night came they were participating in night raids on U.S. bases with the Vietcong.
@fpittelo Not to mention the Vietcong raided and terrorized any village that was thought to be cooperating with the U.S. Some of these villages were forced to store weapons and food for the VC. I'm not excusing U.S. soldiers for what they did, but I can see how they would be frustrated fighting an enemy that is constantly running and hiding from, ambushing them when their back is turned. It is an enemy who hides amongst the civilians; the VC. I guess only the U.S. had blood on their hands.

@fpittelo Yeah, it's funny how you don't realize that the NVA/Vietcong had women engaging in fire fights with U.S. soldiers or how they would find children sitting in the middle of a road and when a soldier goes to pick them up a landmine goes off. Soldiers had a hard time figuring out who was friend and foe. You would have "friendly" vietnamese that would cooperate with U.S. soldiers during the day and then when night came they were participating in night raids on U.S. bases with the Vietcong.

@fpittelo Not to mention the Vietcong raided and terrorized any village that was thought to be cooperating with the U.S. Some of these villages were forced to store weapons and food for the VC. I'm not excusing U.S. soldiers for what they did, but I can see how they would be frustrated fighting an enemy that is constantly running and hiding from, ambushing them when their back is turned. It is an enemy who hides amongst the civilians; the VC. I guess only the U.S. had blood on their hands.

It's not until Al-Qaeda decided to fly in our buildings that killed many as 3000 innocents. Always better to keep things lid rather than let it out until it blow up into something worse. Both sides committed atrocities which seemed appropriate, even good, at the time. And a number of men enjoyed committing these acts. One has to wonder whether it is really possible to commit a crime when you have been trained to give up your morality in order to do your job. What do you think?
