Cookie-cutter houses, no culture, foggy weather and lots of families. Sounds like the suburbs to me. It may technically be part of SF, but it obviously doesn't feel like it.
Where the hell are you from? No culture? Are you kidding? The Sunset is an integral part of San Francisco. The fog, the families, and the Asian and Irish culture make this the REAL San Francisco. Do you think there must be bachelor yuppie assholes from New Hampshire or San Diego or Whereverthefuck drinking lattes and driving Audis all over the place in order for it to "feel" like San Francisco? THEY have no culture. Thank God the Set is still safe from their evil destructive wrath.
Real San Francisco? The Sunset was all sand dunes less than 70 years ago! And if it was the "REAL San Francisco", then how come whenever SF is on TV, they show places like North Beach, the Mission the Haight, Coit Tower, Golden Gate Bridge, The Crookedest Street, and so on? None of those places are in the boring, suburban sunset. All the houses and streets look the same, it's foggier and colder than any part of the bay area, and its filled with college students who leave after 4 years.
They show those places because that's where TOURISTS VISIT, not where NATIVES LIVE. Sure, there are some State students living in the Sunset, but not nearly enough to define the neighborhood. In fact, the Sunset has the highest median age of any district, as well as one of the highest home ownership rates and largest proportions of native San Franciscan residents. I know hella natives from the Set, probably more than any other neighborhood. Not much hipster scum like you running around.
I dont drink lattes, Im not a hipster and I dont drive an Audi. You've come up with some strange opinions of me, but I know for fact that the Sunset is nothing more than a SUBURB. Everything is cookie-cutter, it's cold, and no one downtown ever goes there. There's a reason why people call the real San Francisco "The City". Again, the Sunset was all SANDUNES 70 years ago, so how could there be more natives from there? Lots of families may live there as of recently, because it is "hella" SUBURBAN!
I'm not making this shit up. If you were born here like me, you would know that the Set has a high percentage of SF natives relative to most other parts of the city. Just ask the old SDI heads who went to SH or SI, or the cutty young native Sunsetters who went to Lincoln or WIS and kick it at the beach, the park, the bridge, the Arb, the Res, etc. And what's up with you putting quotes around "hella"? Further proof that you ain't from around these parts. Why, I oughta run you outta town, fool.
I laugh at you saying "hella" as if it validates your SF residency. Cutty young native Sunsetters, nice use of words. No one who lives in the city goes to the boring, suburban Sunset, but people from the Sunset leave their boring neighborhood to have a good time downtown all the time. Reply to that, Im begging you. Calling it the "Set" does not make it cool. And what does me being white have to do with anything? The Sunset has natives cuz its cheap, cold, boring, and suburban.
I'm not trying to be clever by using those words; I'm just being myself. That's how I talk normally and I'm not trying to "validate" anything or impress you. Me and my friends kick it in the Sunset a lot and we have a damn good time. A lot of people do that. You've never been to a crackin park party or beach bonfire? Sunsetters are a proud people, and they don't all run off to downtown all the time as you say. You clearly don't spend any time out there, so don't talk about what you don't know.
@WaterBalloonTerroris Cultural snobbery hides insecurity. I hope have matured in the last 2 years. The USMC sent me to some interesting places, but I chose to return here. You can have a great life in the Sunset. Hope you have a great life too.
LOL, as if downtown and the rest of SF is filled with "natives." If you knew anything about the sunset....that's why the city is the best, it's diverse in everything it has to offer.
I live in the sunset and it's like 80 percent families - not students. There is tons of culture here, in fact i find the erasure of the Asian culture in this neighborhood by some of you to be truly ignorant.
dex1lsp, THANK YOU for representin' the Set! Who gives a shit if no one visits here. I like it better like that! Nice and quiet, not much crime, ain't nothin' wrong with living in a quiet neighborhood. If you dumbasses wanna live in a place where's it's hella crowded and nowhere to park, be my guest.
Might I add that Golden Gate Park is a TOURIST ATTRACTION and it's technically part of Sunset. It divides Sunset and Richmond district.
"marisa415n510". Is that your life accomplishment? Being born in the Bay Area? Wow, impressive. No, I'm not from the Bay nor do I plan on living here much longer. It's dirty and crime infested. I'm from the East Coast, I've lived in the UK and I will be living in Japan in the future. Have fun staying in the same place your whole life.

I grew up in the Sunset in the 60's and 70's and it was at least 90% Irish and Italian.

Ahh, the San Francisco suburbs.

The Sunset is still in SF! It is not a suburb! If you were in Golden gate Park on Oct. 11th, you would have met the street part of it.
