  • Hey do you have an email address where I can contact you and talk about training tips and other questions stlouisgoalkeeping please?

  • amazing videos once again but can i ask what is the point of a drop kick?

  • @sk8terb0y1132

The idea of the drop kick is two fold. 1) the ball tends to be much more direct and gets downfield much quicker than most punts. This allows for a tactical advantage by not letting the other team get all 11 players behind before it hits the ground from a punt. 2) Because the flight of the ball from a drop kick tends to be much lower and flatter, it can be a useful skill set when playing into the wind. Balls that tend to have a higher trajectory get caught in the wind easier.

  • sharat nambiar :- no.sorry

  • Do you have any videos for penalties?

  • @amr2009amr

yes, we do. Please see our 2 part series on "Tips for facing penalty kicks"

  • Good vid. I play at a pretty high level but I always found it hard for the drop volley. Instead I use a side volley. It goes just as straight, and I can direct. Also I feel that when I am trying to get the ball out faster to the wings or over the back lines head to my forwards.

  • yeah, I'm a big fan of the side volley, as long as it can be hit consistently. I was never really able to hit it consistently for distance, so I stuck with the drop kick, but I do like the side volley technique.

  • your the best

  • thank you for your support.

  • Thanks for the tips! This is an excellent series of videos, which has answered many of the questions I have been asking for a long time but have never gotten adequate answers to. Your explanations are clear and thorough and have truly helped put me in the right mindset as far as punts and dropkicks (and goal kicks) are concerned. Thanks again.

  • all the best to you.

  • thanks for the vid..i'll try this every practice!

  • another great video as usual! ive been watching a couple of them and they have seriously helped my play, especially as a girl keeper! keep it up!

  • thank you.

  • i just played a game and punted the ball a few times. now i feel a bit of pain on my left leg(i kick the ball with my right leg). the pain is in the muscle right under the hip bone. i think its because i swing my right leg and put all my weight on my left leg.how do i stretch it and prevent straining the muscle again?

  • you might be pulling the leg across your body too hard. Try not to whip the kicking leg across your body that hard. Just rotate at the hips and shoulders at the same time in a smooth manner and this hopefully, should solve the issue.

  • Thank you for posting this video!I know use dropkicks, because somehow I´m not able to do proper punts :D I just can´t hit them at the right point anymore...So I started using dropkicks and it works perfect! With contrary wind I can kick the ball about a few metres behind the half way line.If I don´t, I´m able to kick past the center circle.Thank you very much for posting this video!Looking forward to see a video for throwing.

  • Great series of vids.....cheers Will

  • thank you. all the best.

  • I have a question.. How to wash/clean your gloves?

  • check out part 1 of the punts and dropkicks series, someone just asked the same question...if you can't find it, let us know....but it should be right in the middle of the first page of comments and questions.

  • Hey, first of all I wanted to say excellent video (as are all of your other ones). I was wondering if you could help answer my question. I'm a 16 year old goalkeeper who lives overseas now (I go to an International school outside of London). I'm wondering if you have any tips on how to get recognized by colleges, as I hope to continue playing in college. This fall our school team won the ISST's, a tournament of all the International schools in Europe, and one of the seniors got an offer from...

  • Thanks for all your help with the great tips. Very easy to understand and learn. I'm 30 years old and and just started to play keeper for my co-ed team. Your tips have improved my game quite a bit, and I'm having more fun as my confidence grows. Cheers from Ontario Canada.

  • all the best to you. I also know there is a goalkeeping academy very close to you, although I don't quite know how good it is. I think it is called Star Academy, maybe.

  • hey i need to buy new boots so please can you tell me what soccer boots are best for goalkeeper.

  • I don't think there is one particular pair of boots that are better than others for goalkeepers. I think you should make sure that your boots are completey comfortable on your feet and the leather isn't too stiff. The shoe should be soft and feel like a natural extension of your foot.

  • Hi I am antonio david's dad, and i only have words of admiration for you; you are a very caring teacher who knows a lot about goalkeeping thecniques. OSCAR RESANO is one of the best goalkeeper coach i have ever konwn and you two got the same school. thank you very much for the answers you did to my son. and once again congratulations to you cause you have tought some many young goalkeepers to improve their games.

  • all the best to your son and please keep encouraging him for the future.

  • I think either throwing or taking of crosses will be our next video.

e-mail us you e-mail address and we will send you some papers on how to set up your wall and where to stand...it's a bunch of illustrated stuff that draws everything out.

  • Hi i am from venezuela and my father did a video of all my movemments in the goal area. could you see it in you tube "grandes atajadas antonio david" cause i trying to go to youru camp the next year. also, i really admire you because my trainers love the way you teach. congratulations, your are helping many goalkeepers in maracaibo venezuela

  • i watched your video and I think you have very good goalkeeping instincts and you are very quick with your reflexes. Your positioning looks very good for your age, and I would encourage you to keep training as hard as you can everyday. Make sure that you concentrate on mastering your techniques right now and trying to use those correct techniques in your games. all the best to you antonio david.

  • Seriously ur videos r helpin me very much but next year one of my coaches told our team today that we r goin to lift weights. Should I do that or should I stick to your regament.

  • weights are fine, just make sure you are not using heavy weights and adding a lot of mass to your upper body. That's just more weight your legs have to push through the air when you dive or jump. You want to get as strong as possible, without adding a lot of mass. Stay lean.

  • this is very off topic but when is a good time to throw a ball over punting or dropkicking a ball.

  • i think a lot of it will be determined by distance...how far can you throw the ball as well as the spacing the player you are trying get the ball to is in. Mostly distance though. Anything over 45-50 yards, I would by looking to kick the ball.

  • very good explanations, this makes science interesting! hehe

  • Great Vids man! hope one day i can go to your academy to train! By the way have you seen GK Federico Vilar he plays in Atlante in mexico and its the second GK from Argentina, i love the way he does his punt kicks or drop kicks its amazing the way he passes the ball to his forwards!

  • exactly...this is the sidevolley technique that I was talking about...it's very direct and gets to the forwards very accurately. It is used by many south american goalkeepers very effectively.

  • dropkicks are hard..

    i always use punt

  • what do you think about those south american style punts that are like sidekick/line drives that have almost zero air but are more about directional advantage? ...its been something id love to master but hasnt been easy...

i hope im explaining it well....its a punt..but the connection is made almost like a side volley and the ball is chopped/line-driven .....

  • the technique is very difficult...you really have to have good flexibility in your hips, otherwise, you won't really be able to get over the ball correctly and you will end up getting much more height than you wanted. since I retired a number of years ago, my hip flexibility has suffered and when I try to use this technique it is absolutely aweful.

  • ok (;

  • wow i wrote my side volley punt comment before he mentioned it in the vid! :)

  • gr8 man :)

just wondering if I can dropkick the ball OUTSIDE the box... then it comes more futher away :)
