SAY IT AIN'T SO!
Note: At some point in the often misguided 70's or 80's (liturgically speaking) , a similar song was composed whose "refrain" was "la la la la la". Is the devil's work never done? :)????
The "granddaddy" of all Spanish language Catholic hymns and possibly the most beautiful and beloved Spanish Catholic hymn of all time. It was composed by Mr. Arrondo in the waning days of the classical liturgy as part of the liturgical movement's efforts to make the sense and inner meaning of the liturgical rites intelligible to the lay faithful. It is part of a triad of hymns composed by Mr. Arrondo in this spirit which "paraphrased" different parts of the Classical Roman liturgy,
alongside "Recibe Oh Dios Eterno" (an offertory hymn paraphrasing the now extinct offertory prayer "Deus Qui Humanae Substantiae",( which reportedly terrified Martin Luther and caused him to enter an existential crisis) and "Acepta Este Sacrificio", which was meant to be sung after the "Ite Missa Est" and modeled on the post-mass prayer "Suscipe Sancta Trinitas"
The words are so striking and even chilling in their unabashed Catholicism that this gorgeous hymn was occasionally rejected violently for "ecumenical" reasons after the Second Vatican Council. It was sung at the funeral of Cardinal O'Connor of New York City at the offertory and is enjoying a much deserved resurgence here in the Archdiocese of Los Angeles. We're still a little rusty with its execution, but I hope to upload an improved version in future. Here follows an English translation:

Let us go joyfully to the altar of God
May His truth and His justice
Guide us to the Holy Altar
To offer forth the sacrifice
Which gives Him infinite glory
Let us celebrate God Most Holy
Who fills us with joy
And let us ascend the mountain
Where God sacrifices Himself

Let us offer up together this Divine Victim
Who immolates Himself for us
That we might have light and life
Glory be to the Eternal Father
Glory to Christ, our Guide
And to the Divine Spirit, Infinite Praises
