I had the fabulous opportunity to perform (in my high school choir) with this amazing man. We were all on stage with him and sang The Battle Hymn of the Republic. It was truly an amazing experience, and Simon Estes has an amazing voice even today in his 70's.
Thanks for responding so quickly. No videos nor dvds what a shame Such a great bass performance by Estes and I would have paid practically any price. One more question; are there any more clips?
beautiful color and musical choices. for an opera singer, curious he sang this oratorio without the the score. sometimes singers can get their noses stuck in the score. bravo.
I sang this Requiem with him as the Bass Soloist. He, by himself, is louder and clearer than the entire male section of a 200 person choir. The man has a voice that will make anyone get goosebumps.
Agree! We had the pleasure to have him here in Dortmund some 7-8 years ago for a AIDS- Benefice. Me in the chorus. This voice is so incredible big, it filled the whole concert hall to the last corner. But never strained or sounding pushed. And, when I remember, I get the goosebumps still nowadays.
Indeed, I have a recording of this requiem with him in solo section, and in the FF section of the Lacrimosa, you can still hear his voice over the full orchestra, plus full choir, plus all the soloist!!!
He is like the Mario Del Monaco of Basso regarding power!
@nicolashrv And he is AMAZING to work with. I was in an orchestra that did a concert with him when I was in 9th grade and then he came back when I was in 10th grade. It was so great. And he is a wonderful person.
l'originale è per la voce del basso.
