as a musician (bassist) the drums are the back bone of a band, without them, your band is nothing. drums make the rythm and timing, guitars play melody bass links them, keys and other instroments are accents that can realy compliment melodys

@jrizzyrizz No its complete true, Im a percussionist. The bassist(my brother) goes along with the drummer to form an extremely solid beat. So you are right in a sense, but any drummer should know where they are in the beat.
