  • Dear god,

thank you for allowing these great musicians parents to have sex and produce them.

    love, the world.

  • in my time of dying....want nobody to mourn, all i want you to do, is take my body home...

  • @czwij it might get loud..

  • I would assume that the dudes that hate on Meg are lovers of the meat whistle and the chicks that do are just being true to their nature .

  • Who's that caveman playing on the drums

    Oh yeah it's Meg.

    Yeah I'd bone her

    RIP WHITE STRIPES

  • Fuck that guy who said freebird.

  • 1:06 extreme neckbanging

  • All I wanted to do was see this band live. May aswell slit my wrists now and get over it.

  • Hey, can somebody please write the lyrics in a comment? 'cause i don't know that much english and i really wanna know what it says, is one of my favorite songs and i never knew it has an alternative version. please! it'll take just five minutes of your time and you'll make me very happy :D if you love white stripes as much as i do, YOU HAVE TO DO IT

  • I hear "In My Time of Dying" by Zeppelin and "Whole Lotta Rosie" by ACDC mixed and I love it.

  • @Agoraph0bia yea, I was thinking the same thing. They have so many different sounds but all showing direct influence from great bands.

  • "PLAY FREEBIRD" lmao

  • ah.... little baby in it's baby stages. they grow up so fast

  • the blues will never die :)

  • Huh. I always wondered what happened to his Kay guitar. Here it looks normal but on more recent stuff it looks like when you rip the layers of cardboard apart are on it....

Anyways I love the different lyrics about him preaching to her and birds. It's the catholic raising coming out of him. 8P

  • @GRandPavisStalker its actually paper. he has it on there to cut down on feedback

  • @RussianThickness1 Oh that makes much much more sense.... Thanks!

  • @yoch3 I know, it's really just well amazing. 8) Ah, music is quite a wonderful thing, especially those who are used as conductors to release that music.

  • @yoch3 god doesn't exist; remember that.

  • @hodjepodje be happy. spread light. believe what you want.

  • @hodjepodje keep it to yourself

  • thank you to the person who made this video - it is a thing of beauty

  • HEY!! This is before he papered the front of the guitar

  • @konacoffee11

The White Stripes are amazing I agree but I think the "Freebird" thing is a joke. It has been for years so relax man its all good.

  • weren't members of slipknot at this gig

  • OKAY I've seen enough of the snide comments of assitry saying that this is a shameless rip-off of "Whole Lotta Rosie" by ACDC (which I also love). All I have to say is, if you do your history, that blues riff has been around LONG BEFORE ACDC or The White Stripes ever used it. I mean, do you have ears or are you just that ignorant? Either way, both songs are very unique and awesome in their own right!

  • the guy yelling for freebird should fuck himself

  • gotta love some slide guitar!!!

  • whola lotta rosie u_u'

  • thats the same dress she wore in the hotel yorba video

  • wait - is meg wearing the hotel yorba dress here?

  • I agree. :)

  • Am i the only one who thinks this riff is eeriely similar to Whole Lotta Rosie?

  • yep

  • @headwhop26

Am I the only one who thinks the riff to "Whole Lotta Rosie" is eerily similar to "I'm a Man"? Or that the riff to "I'm a Man" is eerily similar to "Hoochie Coochie Man"?

  • @galaxyrock its the blues dude they pretty much all contain the same 5 notes but aint they just the sweetest notes of all?

  • @galaxyrock

Well considering AC/DC beat Black Strobe the the punch by about 25 years, i'd say thats not a valid point

  • @headwhop26

"I'm a Man" is a Bo Diddley song from 1955, dipshit. Black Strobe did a cover.

  • i have that exact same guitar, it looked so much better before he messed up the front and got rid of its natural colors.

  • @bgerch23 same

  • one of my favs and their greatests songs

  • wow, this is really early white stripes. i feel like im watching a documentary. jack white is legend!

  • De Stijl is a masterpiece. and it was recorded on a 4-track in Jack's living room!

  • estupendoo

  • holy sh*t his kay isnt covered in paper!

  • all hail de stijl

  • Love this song!

Theres always somedouche bag yelling "free bird!". Even at Jack's shows. LOLz

  • never heard this song before just now. im glad i accidentally stumbled on this video. love it even after only hearing it once. what album is this on?

  • @Sandman515 It's on their second album: De Stijl

  • thanks. I gotta pick that up the next time im in the local music store.

  • Yeah, it's on their best disc de stijl. Since you haven't heard the studio version yet, some of the words are changed, which makes this video so raw! Love it!

  • I agree,An stijl probably is their best album i think

  • The stijl

  • De Stijl - dutch for: The Style which was an community of painters and other artists back in the days. They thought that art should be simple and sober. The White Stripes are greatly inspired by De Stijl

  • This is definitely one of my favorite White Stripes songs. It frikken rules.

  • @MrRuigni My bad, yes it is one of myfavorites as well

  • I knew I wasn't the only one.

  • look at his arms in this video... then look at his arms not even 10 years later.. they doubled in size. I wouldnt want to fight him now.

  • @Username11available2 yeah, just look at the lead singer of The Von Bondies, he got in a fight with Jack, and his face looked all jacked up

  • He is too cool.

  • So true!

Fancy meetin you here! :P lol

  • ahh :)

  • i got something similar it's an old K

  • He tends to have that guitar tuned to A these days. Then his red Gretsch tuned to G and the other is obviously standard. Usually....

You know Jack White though. He does what he wants when he wants.

  • does he have a red gretsch??

  • Yeah i'm pretty sure its a Gretsch he uses for the likes of "Lets Build a Home"

  • its a crestwood astral II

  • @bernstein1990 Actually, I don't know if its because the Hard strings he's using, but Open G is the only way you can achieve the sound of... Catch Hell, Little Bird and so death letter... Is impossible with Open A to reach that sound, well... the recorded one at least...

  • @bernstein1990 yeah, but i think his red gretsch is often tuned in open D i think, too

  • Comment removed

  • @DarkExecuter333 the red guitar is not a grestch, it's some brand from japan, and it's in open E

  • @LoudnProud42 i think its open A or G actually, Jack usually plays its in open A, but i this footage, IMO,its G

  • @Abz90L It's open A. I'm tuned to Open G right now with a capo on second fret and I can play the stuff he's playing in his normal tuning

  • Man I love them so much!!! they're the best!!!

  • mag have a sweet haircut:-)

  • true!

  • whole lotta rosie

  • Meg looks like the daughter from Californication.

  • what guitar is he using? what might his effects setup be?

  • not sure about the setup but the guitar is a 1950's Kay. He still uses it but he cut off the "Kay" part of it and he must have sanded it down to its natural finish because the back is the same now but the front is like greyish

  • I bought this EXACT model last week for $200! I was so excited it was so cheap. but he put some kind of paper thing over the original finish. You can see through some spots of it. I just know because I had the chance to look close at it. That thing is tore up hahaha

  • yea i have the same guitar only mine doesnt have the electric pickup, probably going to get that put on there so i can do some slide j white magic

  • i have no clue what guitar but he is useing a slide and his tuneing is deffintly not standerd maybee dadgad then his pick up is set to 8 and its the bridge pick up his disorter is at 6 and it is on and off in the song

  • This song's in open G tuning - DGDGBD

  • yes it is makes sencee

  • and the tone for the bottom pick up is about 3 or lower

  • dude how awesome is mister "oh i had this in fucking 1999" guy?

  • Well said dude.

  • jack n meg look more normal here. down to earth even. wha????

  • the black keys should do covers of the white stripes and vice versa!!! id love to see how that comes out!

  • i have that exact same guitar, my dad got it when he was young in the 1960's for 50 bucks

  • cover it with paper

  • Lucky ducky!

  • This song is simply amazing. The bottleneck's style is awesome.

  • "i wanna pet your feathers baby" yeah!

  • keeping it so real!

  • You can hear a little Robert Johnson in Jack's playing.

  • Of course. It brings tears to my eyes. I believe in reincarnation. Willie Mctell, Poor Bob, Mr. House, Bo Diddley.. .they're out there somewhere. I recognized their music before I'd even HEARD it. It was like Deja Vu of the ear. Made me believe in God.

  • how can you recognize something before you hear it?

  • Fuck if I know.. like I said... Deja vu of the ear..

  • at least some bands are keeping the blues alive,

the blues needs to come back

  • check out the black keys!

    great blues too

  • hellz yea black keys are indeed the shit. dan auerbach is another very creative guitarist/songwriter with a relatively similar style as jack..

  • what would be epic is if the keys and the stripes went on tour together

  • While they're both blues-rock, they have differing styles. A tour together would be cool but I don't feel like I'd like a collaboration of the two.

  • @2und2sind4 dont be fooled the black keys are NO white stripes... thier good dont get me wrong but thier doing two different things. jack and meg are something else.

  • @diddypopdiddy

i didnt want to say that they`re doing the exact same thing i just meant that they are worth checking out if you like the 1 guitar and drums concept

  • @2und2sind4 truth be told.. i didnt meant o sound like a smart ass , i just seen t he black keys live for the first time and it was fun

  • @2und2sind4 fuck the black keys

  • @jerrygarfield012

    calm down

  • @2und2sind4 The Black Keys is the bizarro version of The White Stripes. Dan Auerbach is the anti-Jack White. It's so weird, but I like them.

  • For real!! Its the foundation, sucks that music has gone away from it, now all one has to do is not wear underware...

  • @44eelz if blues came back the modern age would kill it for good

  • @44eelz check out Flat Duo Jets

  • @trogdor711 check out The Black Box Revelation for some great garage blues rock

  • His guitar is sexy shut up about rape.

    Stop spamming the White Stripes.

Especially if your name is an anithistamine (BENADRYL) because I've seen you do it on multiple videos and it's annoying.

    Whatever.

Little Bird is great song album version and live, I love the alternating lyrics. It keeps ya guessing :D

  • did u hear the crowd yell free bird at the end? hah!

  • I think I like this version better than the album version.

  • Meg is still the same drums player

  • i love his raped looking guitars :D

  • The word is "vintage". :)

  • HAHA Nice.

Well, I dont know about the other buy but I love vintage AND rape so its all good.

    (Kidding, btw lmao.. )

  • raped sounds cooler.

  • raped sounds wrong

  • who's the dumbass yelling freebird at the very end

  • Oh god I love you for this.

  • the good ol days

  • jack's juitar is caughing !

  • wtf. seeing him play this is nuts. jack white is a guitar god!

  • Feel better now thanks. Seen this band in so many beautiful venues. Remember the goodness...TALENT!!

  • who's the dumbass yelling freebird twice at the very end

  • I have a Harmony Archtop that looks identical to his Kay guitar.

  • the beginning of the singing reminds me of ZZ top - la grange. took me some minutes till i've figured it out what does it sound like xD

  • "I wanna pet your feathers, baby!"

    he's so great.

I can't even describe it in words.

  • I wonder what guitar jack is playing?

  • I dont know, but I want one!

  • It´s a Gibson ES-150, the worlds first electric guitar. The ES stands for Electric Spanish because of the body shape.

    built 1936 1941till .

    today this guitar is invaluable..

  • I think it's a Kay

  • semi electric blues acoustic,.,.not tined

  • Comment removed

  • you can tell he really enjoys playing guitar

  • Open A is just open G a whole step higher. The intervals are the same.

  • i thought it was e that was a step higher than G

  • No, A is a step higher than G.

  • This song and alot of the other slide guitar tracks on this album reminds me of led zeepplin's in my time of dying

  • They both use the same old blues licks. Not that there's anything wrong with them. :)

  • megs is wearing the same dress that she wore in 'Hotel Yorba'

  • Fucking great artist. What's the name of that thing he's got on his finger? Seems like all the blues gitarist have one.

  • its called a pinky slide.

its a glass or metal tube you slide your pinky into and it bars all the strings and it gives it this fucking sweet sound.its sexy haha

  • bottleneck =p

  • hell yes

  • yes, this is blues music.

  • open a and g have alot of tonal similarities... but really its up to the player... i prefer open g bc it has a more raw durty down without slide... id play open g over standard any day...

  • it's deffo open A, and a fat song

  • dig it.

  • Love this song. Guitar is like In My Time of Dying (Led Zeppelin)

  • is this blues music?

  • blues and rock

  • standard

  • what tuning???????

  • Open A

  • it's open G, not open A.

  • Are you sure? Cuz death letter album version is in open G too, but live version he plays in open A. He uses just one guitar for open tunings when playing live-Kay Hollowbody, and plays Seven Nation Army, Death Letter etc. in open A on it. I doubt if he tunes it into open g during the concert.

  • ive seen him live multiple times, its G. don't forget he has nifty thing in his pedal board called a digitech whammy, which i own myself, so, he can switch the octave, no prob, without loosing his sound quality.

  • This version is in open A, the CD is in G. I dont know if he's using the whammy or what, but I'm playing along right now and my guitar is open A.

  • JACK I LOVE YOU

    MEG YOU RULE!!!

  • MEG i love you

    jack you rule!!!

  • Yeah, brother Jack...by all means "preach the word". I would like to hear him remake some old gospel or hymns. I love "Wayfairn' Stranger". that's how I learned of him. I fell in love with him in Cold Mountain and rushed out and bought the cd.

  • meg is amazing!!

  • In this live version he played in Open A tuning, but in the original studio recording for this song the tuning is Open G#.
