LOL!! this is like 1972!! Sorry but think they are the Godfathers of punk!! Oh, and Epiphone just reissued the Wilshire (not sure it's a definitive year) Guitar Center has them for $399....
MC5 found a way to put the "A" in afro.Go figure. Music is absolutely Classic Detroit. Great rough around the edges stuff, leave it alone. All American, yeah!
@songokusss It's an Epiphone Wilshire. Great little guitars, and fairly inexpensive, too. Gibson's (who owns Epiphone now) website lists a modern reproduction of the 1966 Wilshire (which this one appears to be) for $632, but most dealers will certainly offer them for a good deal less than that. I've seen them in shops for around $450 or so.
THE original............ THE first,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, THE very very beginning of punk............. everything that followed from the new york dolls to the ramones to blondie to the pistols to the clash...... all stemmed from this,,,,,,,,,,,,, from MC5 we had glam punk (check out your music history) i.e the dolls and from there the rest is history!! they should take this video and turn it into a fooking monument!!!!!!
@barrybradford69 I credit you w/ a passion and conviction of spirit, but I must bring your attention to groups that were playing a similar style before Iggy and The Motor City 5, like Blue Cheer and The Mothers of Invention. Lou Reed and Jon Cale had been working up discordant jams for their own amusement in the late 50's. Buck Owens' materialized Bakersfield was rife w/ rockabilly acts that pushed every boundary, and before them some bluesmen and further some bluegrass acts played it 'punk'.
Even though their first album on Elektra was dropped in '69, the MC5 have been around since the mid 60s and were known for their underground live shows. The Stooges, being from Michigan, saw them live before they were known and stated that the MC5 were inspirations to them.
fuck im old i used to have this on 8 track and have to stick a matchpack under it to get it to play.Id say these were some of the greatest punk rockers.Kick out the jaaams motherfuckers was on my 8track.
@notfragile33 Good Christ. Let me set you straight, boy. I have been to the country formerly known as "Great" Britain, and to some of its territories including BIOT. Do the Google. There is a reason why most bands in England come to America to "make it". "Making it" in England is akin to lighting farts. It initially looks impressive, but in the end, its not. Kind of like your Queen in that respect. Now that I have set you straight, you snaggletoothed inbred, you have my permission to bugger off.
@MongoTheLloyd Most bands only want to break America for financial reasons.Anyone with musical knowledge knows becoming well known & doing well in UK gives a band real kudos.
@stevobath ... bercause Lord knows, financial success is no measurement of "making it". (roll eyes here). Few bands seek to "make it" in England these days. Back in the late 60s, some went to England because the inbred English audiences were easier to please, and it was easier to get gigs, albeit at a fraction of the pay. Most bands today skip England and go right to the audiences that matter. England is left with inbreds like Robbie Williams, etc, and they don't much know the difference.
@MongoTheLloyd You know jack mate. Rolling Stones had to show USA music that had originated in USA.As for Englishbeing 'inbred' USA was/is populated by the shit other countries dont/didnt want...the large bowel of the Earth. As for the Queen, & your teeth jibe, you really are a twat.Bet you think we al;l qwear bowler hats, drink tea & speak like a Cheeky Cockney.Look at the shit blocking up the charts in UK. Mostly US crap like Hip Hop.AMERICUNT
@stevobath dude, im american and i agree with what youre sayin. X) music needs to be revitalized anyways. todays pop from america fuckin sucks. its all stuttering badgers covered in glitter burping on a mic with some autotune on it and it sells. we need talented people to make good music again regardless of where it comes from. it could come from uzbekistan for all i give a fuck. X) as for me, i just want to make love and good music, not little youtube fights between people i dont know. :)
The way Kramer and Smith kneel down and bend backwards and then get up again, synchronised with each other, reminds me exactly of the way the Beatles used to do a little choreographed bow at the end of each song. Not dissing the 5, because I love the Beatles. But they share an element of slightly hoky showbiz.
@thewatcheroutoftime Dunno if the MC5 were the godfathers of punk and indie. They jammed a bit too much. I would have thought that garage bands like the Kingsmen and the Sonics were the true godfathers of punk. The MC5 were great, but it's hard to think of many punk bands who combine insane energy with long guitar jams.
@Hister333 the only place in this world that can clear your doubts is memebase, your username makes an indirect reference to the hipsters, so thats why i made the joke XD
should have, oughtta have, wudda been the biggest band ever...but they fucked up too much too early, especially getting involved with that loser John Sinclair ... shame ... but they remain fucking cool alawys were always will be KOTJMF!!!!
@UneX100 There actually used to be a black and white video of mc5 playing this live, I remember the kick out the jams motherfuckers, sometimes you will find one similar that starts kick out the jams brothers and sisters.
