I watched leah on film school alomg with 2 other directors; vincenzo and Alrick. I think that this along with Alrick's is the best out of the 3. Alrick brown's is a very good short film titled " adventures of superN" which is based on the true story of amadou diallo who was shot 43 times by nypd. This isvery movig also and she worked very hard on making this film. This is a true story aout leah and her mum is the disabled women in the film. Very moving, well writen, well filmed
I am a disabled woman with a teen, and I know the fact that we live with each other and are so similar in so many ways, the inheritance factor is a huge fear for both of us .............even though we KNOW in our logical brain, there is no chance of it
"With all due respect, it seems like a very average self serious first year student. I don't understand why it received so many nominations; she or her family must be very well connected."

--- you obviously don't go to film school, nor have ever tried to make a film before. I'm not talking about the writing/story, I'm talking about making a film.
I believe that the plastic wrap at her legs means how her mom would feel if she were in the pool(remember the first scene of the movie, when she dives in the pool and sees a woman not moving)
She's afraid of being in the same condition as her mom. The mom in this film is the actual mother of the director. The whole story stems from the director's real life experience with her own mother, and how she felt as a teen. It was all shown on IFC'S FILM SCHOOL
For those who dont know what this is about - this is a Short-movie, there is no "long version" of the film, because those 9 minutes and 14 seconds IS the full movie. Thanks for sharing this masterpiece.
it was hard to watch, but that is the way a lot of poeple can be, especially when they feel suffocated in a relationship, hers being with her mother. it's a good lesson to put the viewer though that, especially for the teen years where of course most that are immature would behave this way. it made a really good point and depicted it beautifully, the filming was excellent... loved it, this Leah Meyerhoff is really gifted.... cheers!
I hope that at some point in the movie this girl has an epiphany and starts loving her mother and not being so resentful and treating her so coldly. It was hard to watch...but I would love to see the whole movie...
The problem with short films is that they move way too fast... This could be a feature film.
