one year later and i just got an ipad 1st gen for US$280 :) WITH a free original black apple cover

maybe next year the ipad 2 will come down to the same reasonable price range and i'll get one then too! I'm sure all the best cam and facetime using apps will have come out by then.

I like it. It looks like it could be a very cool e-book and multimedia player - that is if it could stand the wear and tear.

I know a lot people expect it to be loaded with features and programs like a regular PC plus IPhone but I don't think it was designed for that purpose in mind.

It still can't beat a laptop....notice how he neglected to play world of warcraft or any mmorpg or even open up aol or msn messenger...its not a peice of crap thats for sure but it still cant beat a PC...Also when did be make a call?!!? how does it beat a phone at all? I think i will by the 3rd generation ipad, after all the complaints for it get fixed, such as more memory, camera capabilities, multitasking...basically when it can completely replace my computer.

@frazierbeyb thats quite stupid. the various ipad versions have a lot of memory, i have the 32gb one and its more than ill ever need. its not like u want to have ur entire movie library on it or anything, you just keep a few movies for when ure on the go, in bed, or just chilling somewhere. so the memory is beyond good. the ipad will never have a camera because that wud be plain stupid, trust me, it just wudnt work its too large. no point. and multitasking is coming out this month. so go get it!

I think it should come with a student set of apps that help students process notes and compose word documents as well as math work and stuff like that. The majority of laptop users are college students and I think that it would boost the sales greatly. Also, I hope they add a printer connection or USB at some point so you can connect and print your work. I personally do want the iPad, but without these things, it can't fullfill my needs as a student.

There is, its called iWork, it comes with pages, the apples word, numbers,excel, and keynotes,powerpoint. all of which have been redesigned from the ground up.

Whne it comes to printer, you have blutooth and wi-fi which most printers today supports. The only thing it doesnt have that bothers me a bit is camera.

There is nothing new here - just a quicker way to run up your credit card debt - the real cost of this device is actually using it - you have to BUY everything from the apps it runs, the music, the movies, the books, putting a nice lil tip in Steve's account each time you tap.

People understand how to use it, and really enjoy it. I, myself and not really impressed, but i can guarantee if you give this device 6 months, you will think differently about it.

You're probably right. But let's face it, software companies, music and book publishers have been wanting the majority of computer users to pay for their products since the beginning. Apple's ITune and etc are the middle men and they can charge us an arm and leg, but they are also backed by the publishers themselves.

The Internet now finally works in their favor. They'll bet on IPad because they'll at least able to sell their wares via Apple (as opposed to being pirated).

I think this thing is interesting... I reckon I'd get one if it had a built in camera... The portability of the thing makes it perfect for video chats.

I'd agree with other posters in that it needs more memory. 64GB is the maximum? That should be their $499 entry level... If I get something like this, I don't want to have to rely on a desktop computer as a bulk data storage device. As far as DVDrom's go, meh.. that would make it much thicker and heavier. Give me an external accessory for that.

things it could have that can make it reach its full potential: multitasking software Enabled flash player Verizon network camera on back and webcam on front cd drive usb ports more memory battery life still pretty awesome. but their presentation was really boring and they overused unecessary words and phrases constantly which was rather annoying.

Don't know about the CD drive in such a thin device. but I do agree on some points.

- Multitasking

- Enable flash

- Camera

- Web cam in front

- More memory

But then again, it doesn't fit in my pocket. So will it just stay in the car? not sure.. I would rather stick with a MacBook pro. Just my opinion

You would have to buy the 3G version to use the internet anywhere. The WiFi version is just to use the device where there is wireless internet.

If it's only WiFi then yes, you can connect to qireless networks; but if you want to connect while in our car I think you want the 3G one. WiFi is best when you're home and are to lazy to get up and go to the computer :P
