I love how they parody the whole lipsync deal!!! They must have not given them the option to play live right? I mean this is just tooo funny ... If you think that corn-job horn-job was funny watch the vid from the same show with boys dont cry and close to me... close to you? no close to me? w/e...
Thank god they are all miming "Close to me" cause who would be playing the keyboards.... Cause it looks like Lol Tolhurst is having a good ol' time dancing. LOVE that Lol!!!
What are you guys thinking blamming them for lip sync'ing? Those idiots that are supposed to be the audience are payed by the ppl that run the television program.
The Cure doesnt need to actually sing for those fake fans, they might aswell save their godly musical skills for the real fans.;)
THAT HAAIIRR... sorry. I'm just in love with his (roberts) hair. I seriously thought about getting a black poodle, and then naming it Robert and never cut its hair. xD
The Cure have a long history of taking the piss where lipsynchs are concerned. It would've been nice if this were a live one though, since these were the glory days after all...
The Cure and Bananarama met on tour and became drinking buddies for a while. Robert Smith famously said Bananarama were the only band who could drink The Cure under the table. This video is probably evidence of shared past time.
Now, don't get me wrong. I love Bananarama dearly. They're my all-time favorite group. But even I have to admit this is odd. They look rather silly and extraneous. They also appear to be desperately wishing they knew how to play a musical instrument.
Why the just dancing around with The Cure? You never saw Nia Peeples just dancing around the stage with Duran Duran.
Even better than the obvious lack of trumpet playing on Robert's part, is the fact that during the horn part at the end of Close to Me, there's vocal parts that Robert says. Which were still said even though he was dancing with the trumpet. lol. Priceless.
Wow. I think this is the first time I've ever seen a bank lip synch two songs in a row. Bizarre. Just too much. So the girls are Bananarama? What are they doing there?
Yeah, but it's not of their choice. Don't let that taint your view of the band...on these programs, they TELL bands to lip-sync, which is why Robert does such a bad job on purpose...he absolutely hates doing it.
You actually thought that I thought the band CHOSE to lip synch? Of course they were told to. Duh! I'm guessing you came here for Bananarama and not The Cure. You're supposed to make a witty comment in agreement to my bewilderment that The Cure did TWO songs lyp synched in a row. Proceed with permission.
That's what I've been asking myself too. Did you see Robert playing the trumpet without moving his fingers? And the presenter couldn't say the name of the song properly. Not once but twice. Still, you can't say it's not a brilliant record.
LOL haha good on them for being idiots while lip syncing.
on many shows they were forced to lip sync so many bands just acted stupid.. Queen being a big one lol. I love watching Queen and stuff on shows that made them lip sync. cos Freddie Mercury, just to piss the show off. just goofed off and didn't even try to make it look like he was actually singing.
To be fair they he wasn't tyring to make out that he was playing the trumpet. I guess they were told they had to lip sync hence no trumpet buttons being pushed and them arsing around on the bass etc (@suddeun Rush - Here here!)
Yeah, pretty common symptom of 80s music shows. I don't blame them for doing it at all, but I much prefer to watch them actually playing. Saw them last year at Giants Stadium and they still kick ass.
Yup.. that's Karen Woodward on bass and Siobhan Fahey in white with the hat on..goofing around in typcial jokester Bananarama style.. The 'Nannas were/are HUGE Cure fans... this is an amazing clip.. haha..
It's definitely Bananarama. I recognise Keren Woodward, "playing the bass" and I believe I understood the announcer to say The Cure and Bananarama. Looks like guys weren't into the lip-synching, so they decided to take the piss and invite the girls on stage to mess around.
Haha. they don't even TRY to look they are really performing this live. I heard tht sometimes they would rebel and do it on purpose. Guess this is one of those times.
I came across this on Sunday and was rather surprised. I never thought The Cure and Bananarama would ever be on the same stage at the same time together. It is very interesting...

Why is Bananarama even there? They have nothing to do with either song, are they just there to "dance" or add sex appeal?
I want to see Bananarama and The Cure actually play together!
