Nice window shopping, but thanks to "damusican" or "vinylman86" for giving his commentary on your vid about treasure hunting. At 5:12 of this clip is a Disney Mickey Mouse record player by GE, makers of my Wildcat. "damusician" thanked me for showing a Disney record player that I'm not afford getting it.
That was a nice display of Disney and Mickey Mouse record player. Probable one of the larger ones. I think most of those places may disappear, hope I am wrong.
Some BIIIG fleam markets there! That AMPEX machine! I definately want to get that machine! Also the Pioneer RT-701 beside it. What are the prices of them, do you remember? Thanks.
Yes they are! The vender wanted $600 for the AMPEX and would not talk about the Pioneer because it was not working. There are two AMPEX ATR-700s on eBay. That is one of the highest quality professional machine I have seen for sometime and I even got to touch it. Very impressive and amazing looking recorder.
My 1st grade teacher had that same Emerson Swingmate. I have a 1977 Truetone just like that except the Emerson is a Stereo player with speakers on each side and the turntable is not a stacker type. Also the knobs is the left-hand side instead of the right-hand side. It looks like a GE player too.
Very interesting video, these flea markets are huge in America. Are this commercial flea markets? In the Netherlands there are "recycling shops", not so huge. In the past they mostly did not operate on a commercial basis, but the last few years a few recycling shops are able to earn money. The recycle shops also create some jobs for people on a social basis.
These flea markets in SC are commercial. The one at the Raleigh NC fairgrounds is run by the state of NC, and there are many other commercial flea markets around NC. Most of the recycling is done at the curb with the weekly pickup. All Grocery stores recycle the plastic bags and there are also recycling centers located in the area. Thanks!
I wish we had flea-markets like that in Australia, I only go to 3 Record fairs a year and that's it! Trouble is if I made a trip to the US and saw lots of consoles, I would want to ship them back and the cost would be astronomical. So, best stay away (maybe!) Great vid though!
Even if I do not see anything I would want to buy it is fun looking at all the stuff. I am still trying figure out what a cheese straightener is. That I saw at the cover bridge fest in southern Indiana.
While I was in SC there was a big auction in MEBANE NC and I just put up the link in the description of the video. Click on more info. Thanks.
I really know what you mean about console radios (and table top tube radios too) getting harder and harder to find! For some reason I have really lucked out recently and actually found some Philco consoles along with some Magnavox and RCA console radio/phonos.
Those little console phonos you found look like JVC "Delmonico" units. On that Ampex, I think that was the last professional reel to reel unit they made.
I really used to like to go to flea markets back when I lived in Ohio. I started buying things from them when I was about 5 years old. Back in the early 80's there used to be so many tube type radios for sale at flea markets. Here in the Southwest we don't have many outdoor flea markets but there are lots of antique shops and antique malls.
Whenever I go traveling I always try to go on the non-interstates whenever possible to go to all the places like this.
There are a lot of neat places on the back roads in southern ILL also. While I was in SC there was a big auction in MEBANE NC and I just put up the link in the description of the video. Click on more info. Thanks.
I was surprised that I did not find something, at least something I might think about. While I was in SC there was a big auction in MEBANE NC and I just put up the link in the description of the video. Click on more info. Thanks.
damn, I wished I had something like that around my way. The Emerson record player @ 4:39, my 1st grade teacher had that same model and looks alot like my 1977 Truetone player. Those where nice stereo console too.
It is a lot of fun roaming around Columbia SC. There are other places of course but you have seen the ones I always visit. Like you hair BTW, LOL, you nut. There are some number of Antique stores and flea markets here, Ill video them sometime. It seems like tube radios are getting harder to find.
I don't know why but listening to your voice brings peace to my mind.

That Pioneer RT707 next to the Ampex was my first reel machine. Great recorder
JimmerSD 3 years ago
The Pioneer is a very nice machine. The vender did not want to talk about how much he wanted fot it, because it was not working properly.
AllAmericanFiveRadio 3 years ago
too bad. I would have made an offer as is.

How bout the price on the Emerson player? I'm sure it was overpriced.
vinylman86 3 years ago
I think it was $120, that one little portable radio way down in a dark corner was $95.

Well one thing about it, it makes me appreciate the radios I have.
I was really surprised to find that Ampex, too bad he wanted $600 for it.

You've got a lot more antique shops and flea markets. Up here I'm lucky to find a radio, and tube at that.

I need to travel down there someday, but need get my drivers license and a set of wheels. Next year I'm going to try and get it at least the license.
