he does have his own line but they can be pretty pricey. You can but a tailpiece and have someone install it for you, or you can take a risk and try to install it yourself.
I've owned both. They have different neck joints. I A/B'd the 61 reissue and the sg standard with an ebony neck and they both have about the same weight/balance distribution. The 61 reissue felt and sounded "better" to me.
oh yeah, i held my 61 RI next to an 08 standard, and I couldn't believe how much a difference there was. built the same year, but the RI sounds, feels, and plays way better
you call that a bargain for a guitar? I mean, I LOVE the Gibson SG, but how much more in a guitar do you get compared to the $1200 version? Ive heard both versions in the same room, and I cant really say the differences are worth the price, and its just a hype having a massively expensive guitar.
I would think a wannabe rok stur would be the one trying to "Create" and not imitate. How could you become a rock star by imitating? Man, you're brilliant, thank you for the posting.
cool man. i totally respect that. my preference is the reissue cause personally i like the neck on it and the single pickguard, but i would love to have a sunburst standard. I'm all about SG's :). I own this one, and 91 SG Special. I used to have a 1976 TV yellow SG.. i think it was a 61 reissue.. but being dumb and 19 yrs old I sold it. I would kill to have that guitar back.
Std and reissue have different necks.. the reissue's neck is so much easier and more comfortable to play to me. There's bigger difference between the two besides looks. But when it comes to looks - I like the reissue better.. i just can't dig that full pickguard on the std.
Your looking at around the 1200 mark in UK pounds though shop around and you might get a better deal, I've played one and they're a great guitar. Try before you buy though! This axe will be a world away from your Epi, the neck might not suit you. Good luck, its a great guitar!
The biggest diff is the neck. 61 has Slim taper (thin) neck; Std has 50's rounded (fatter) neck. Neck join on the 61 is at the 22nd fret; Its on the 19th fret for the Std. The orignal SG's necks would break easy at 22nd fret.. so they moved to the 19th. The Reissue however has a reinforced joint even though its at the "weak" spot like the original. This gives your hands easier access to higher frets. 61 has 57 classic humbers; Std has Alinco. Of course the pick guard is diff.
wots the neck like on this guitar? i play fenders. want a gibson to get a different type of tone. i was looking for one of the special sgs until i realised they have a 50s neck. some ppl like a fat neck but i dont. a fender dont get as ballsy as a gibson. i wud consider gettin one of these darkfire guitars. depends on the price. i guess i dont reali down tune much anyways
The 61 reissue SG has a 60's slim taper neck. It's very thin and VERY easy to play. The SG is much lighter in weight than a Les Paul, so it's not as "fat" sounding as a Les Paul; but I would not trade this in for an LP to save my life. Try out the SG and the Darkfire... I'm sure you'll be happy either way. Thanks for the comment.
i prefer fender. i can get some amazing tones out of them. depends wot your into. i reali like (noiseless) single coils. humbuckers sound good too. just sound different. some ppl think you cant make single coils scream as much as humbuckers. i can. its not that hard. if you play punk (like fall out boy) it doesnt matter. my fenders can do it
meh. doesnt matter. this time last year i was obsessing over dean razorbacks. so glad i didnt get one.
Thanks man. I'm working on redoing this video... The sound quality isnt very good. I want to record one w/out the metronome drum in the background.. I was checking out your page as well - You play well!

hey man that thing sounds awesome! i'm thinking of getting one, but i've read some reviews that mention
1. a weak neck joint (seems to be a problem with almost all SGs)
2. a slightly muddy tone on the neck pickup (i noticed that you didn't demo a clean tone in your video)
3. slight tuning problems
have any of these been a problem for you?

I think gibson released a version like that, hes got his own line of SG's i believe.

guitar center has an angus young signature model that looks to be esthetically just like this guitar but with the engraved lyre vibrola on it

is it balanced well?
madanath 2 years ago
Actually they are. As you could see when he was tuning, it didnt slip. They're actually quite body heavy.
SoloEpi 2 years ago
um 61 reissues are much lighter in the body than the standards
thenextvh 2 years ago
Ya, but i ment that they are body heavy not neck heavy. I didnt mean they were heavy guitars.

the guitar itself is amazing for tone. not as fat as a les paul. but the 57 classic humbuckers and the make of the wood are awesome.
