  • I just love this version

  • Eric clapton should just go out solo acoustic, no other band members, and play all the old blues songs like robert johnson and howlin wolf.

  • Nice rendition by "slow hand"...I have heard 7 covers of this tune, and in my opinion Little Walter did the best interpretation...circa 1961...great blues tune in any language.

  • what does he say at the end?

  • @Nubertke He said "Domo Arrigato" which is thank you very much in Japanese. In case the interest is there....."You're welcome" is Doi toshimashti. Or something like that...LOL

  • check out my channel if you like the blues

  • Eric Clapton at his best, thanks for the video.

  • what style body is this?000?

  • It simply doesn't get any better.

  • 2:09 juste parfait cette variation !

  • It's funny ... I don't think much of Clapton's playing. His technique isn't highly refined or complex but he sure has great feel.

  • @sharpyboyhero

i am sure you can play better tham him. only hendrix tops this guy, buy i don't feel anything when i hear hendrix play, too loud. this guy has it all, blues, rock i love him.

  • @GeileMickey No I can't play 'better' than EC but of course 'better' is a very subjective term. All I was pointing out was that EC's technique isn't that refined. I mean Tommy Emmanuel is a way more technically proficient player. So your statement about EC 'having it all' is false. He does not have excellent technique. But having said this it is meaningless if all you are interested in is feel. Which by the way excites me a lot more than virtuosity.

  • Holy Moses.

  • layla. key to the highway version best ever ever

  • he is so damn good. i'd take a trip to the crossroads to play like that.

  • Clapton is God...

  • omg eric clapton is an very very very .... impotant person !!!

  • Hey know - that was cool!

  • does anybody know the name of the guitar he's playing in this video? thanks to everybody!...

  • @marcoruzzi it's 000-28 EC I believe -- his signature guitar from Martin

  • @marcoruzzi interesting question, but it isn't the guitar that makes him such a musician ... :D

  • if i'd be drunk , this whole thing would make sense...but I don't see a second guitar right now...

  • gracias dios......te esperamos el 14 de octubre, aca en argentina

  • one of the top 3 blues men

  • When it comes to blues, Eric sets the bar very high

  • 12 people have a strange sense of humour

  • most talented man alive.

  • This is why the guitar was invented!

  • That is why he is ranked so high on rolling stone!

  • Hey bakedsushi.... nobody said it better

  • I had a dream yesterday , and in this dream every time that i was going to listen to the radio they were playing musics like this one, why this just can't be on real life?

  • @reptiletninja i dream of that every day

  • 12 people should really buy themselves a guitar

  • The 12 people who dislike this...................those are 12 deaf idiots

  • Porb not God or a Genius, how about just a really good listener and a man who cares enough to pay attn to detail. My opinion is, as a huge fan he and many of us know if it were not for him re recording these versions of what him and his friends loved so much, many of you would never even know some of these songs existed. I could be wrong, but if you ever have a chance to talk to this man you would understand my point. Eric=good student....ha

  • I love this F-in song!!

  • This is so amazing, I have been watching him for years............still can't believe what he does, it is just fantastic!!!

  • @Opiti72

  • @ColinTaylormusic They will but you need to tell them.

  • say he is a genius implies hes a human ......absolutely not true....he is GOD

  • no pic or nothing what a an amazing guitar player

  • Great blues performed by a genius

  • I am afraid he could play with the shittiest guitar in the world and make it sound better than anybody else playing with that one...

  • Eric spent quite a bit of time woodsheddin'

  • clapton's flesh fingerpicking is what makes the difference in the sound

  • I wish I could get tab for this song...not that I'd ever get close to playing it like he does. EC is awesome. Nuff said.

  • I'm not sure what model Martin that is, but his go to guitar for this kind of playing has been the 000-28. I don't see his signature on the uppermost fret, so it's not a his signature model 000-28 EC.

When I first heard this sound on CD, I wondered how he got the tone he does. It has sort of a resonator sound at some places. But after watching it, and seeing his unusual playing style, it just impressed upon me all the more how the fingers contribute to the tone.

  • @gfish66 That is his 000-42. If I'm not mistaken, it's a 1946?

  • @gfish66 Sorry. It's a 1939 000-42

  • @CFMD28 Thanks for that info! Very cool guitar for sure!

  • ke año es?

  • Clapton is god because he can play guitar and Jesus is dead because he can't play. ^^

  • all alone at that stage, and stil amazing. the true mucician!

  • 5*****!

  • I just heard it like 1000 times in loop, it's amazing

  • man, this is too good. it looks soo easy when Eric Clapton play it.

  • still the best

  • Best version I've heard since Sonny Terry and Brownie McGhee at Blues at Newport

  • Best version OF Key to the highway since Sonny McGee and Brownie Terry at Blues at Newport

  • Nice!

  • Could someone tell me what chord is that at 2:43 pls?

  • @andreimihai08 It's a natural A7 chord (at least that's what I call it). You play a regular A chord and just add the the G note on the first E string.

  • 11 people have no ears

  • Theres a guy that lives in the mountains here in Virginia named Wayne Henderson, he hand crafts great acoustic guitars.his guitar sells had started to expand, and rumor has it one had made its way to Clapton, and The local news said Clapton was going to help promote the guitars. Im not sure if it happend or not, He made several different models..Any of you guys ever seen a Henderson acoustic?

  • Eric is the most complete guitar player ever

  • unplugged is a misnomer. it's acoustic, but definitely plugged.

  • This is a Little Walter tune not Robert Johnson and Johnson got that devil shit from Skip James or you could go by the Sun House story but Robert did covers of Skip so I like the Skip thing better but who the F is Ike Zimmerman the man Robert learned from maybe Robert Jr. would know but he's gone know guess that well have to wait to ask him???

  • you got to love when he goes full Robert Johnson mode

  • @sixstringsolid That is a Martin 000-28EC. The same guitar that I have. Unfortunately I can't make mine sound as good as his. Practice, practice, practice. And whoever said there are no effects going on here, yeah, right. That's not just the guitar into the amp.

  • I think the 12-string-ish sound is due partly to the (natural) reverb in the recording, and partly the playing style where he's using all of his fingers across the strings, strumming each string multiple times instead of just once. There is no chorus; it is compressed, as are pretty much all professional recordings, but in an unobtrusive way.

  • Like him or don't, those fingers and hands are AMAZING, I think his acoustic stuff showcases his talent the best.

  • id give my left nut to be this talented, and i love lil lefty, but this is the definition of awesome

  • I am a Claptonist. We go to worship every Friday night and our Sacrament is a bit heavy. We have never started a war and never will.

  • Damn, who's see this video and don't like it

  • wtf is that guitar??? at the beginning i thought it was a 12 string cause of the way it sounded but it wasnt. it definetly has a unique sound

  • @SixStringSolid I think it's the man who's playing it

  • @SixStringSolid Im pretty sure he has some kind of compression and maybe chorus (guitar effects) going on

  • @Lizzardpeople the mans fingers know where they should be long before the note is played .. Very few players have this talent , Page , Vaughn , Beck come to mind and a couple more that slip my mind .. So you should stick to your ' tasts " Gaga or Whatever low to no talent "Mili Vinilli ' copy You find enjoyable

  • @tbwbenw @tbwbenw I started playing the guitar twenty years ago because of Clapton. So it is a fact that I appreciate him and his music. From this standpoint I say that you are wrong if you consider Gaga with no talent. She is different, of course. But she is plenty of talent, even at playing music: have you ever seen her at the piano? try this youtube.com/watch?v=8jF8gcw_mpI&feature=related

  • Japanese crowds don't do much to pump you up while you're on stage. They appreciate what he's doing so much that they sit there in silence so as not to disturb him. Wonderful culture but I'm willing to bet more than one musician has come back from here saying they played in front of a dead crowd. It's nothing like that at all though.

  • What a treasure. Clapton is one of the best in the world. He opened a concert in KC with this song in 01. Just walked out on stage, sat in a chair, and started jammin. Billy Preston played keyboards. What an awesome time.

  • His unpluggeds are the best!

  • does anyone know which guitar he is playing??

  • @imagination007 his own signature model 00028. Martin Guitar ofc :)

  • @Lizzardpeople You have terrible taste if you think Clapton is bad. It's that simple.

  • every once in awhile I hear Leon Russell in his voice ... nice guitar playing too!

  • This is pure class, despite his inability to play guitar!!!!!!

  • @jaydoubleyou1000 Lol WHat??

  • @Nickdiaublow It was a joke mate, the mans pure class as i said at the start of the post. I,m probably no less an admirer than you. You couldn,t possibly think that was serious!!

  • genius!

  • Heilandtonner cha dä Typ gitärele.....

  • Well im sorry for the people that dont get it .. he has been there done that and wore the t shirt .. he has openly admited to going back to basics .. blues etc etc ..he loves it

  • He has an extremely unorthodox way of finger picking.....but it sure works. God love Eric........and fuck the haters.

  • @Lizzardpeople just more @Lizzardpeople spam he writes things pecause he wants ppl to be angry. maby your wierd and meaningless coments are as meaningless as your life.

  • For satan det lyder godt :)

  • Blues is god then reggae.

  • Love this song, love this version. Mind you I love Drifting Blues too.. ;-)

  • to everyone who says clapton is god, that was kind of the reason that caused him going on drugs and alcohol, if you dont beleve me read his book haha, im not saying he isnt good!! i think eric clapton is GREAT

  • Why can't i play like this??

    One word-Genius!

  • @TheECWasHere75

Maybe Eric Clapton practised more then you ever did............

  • 9 people on this planet should be shot.

  • @MrBB102 I've got a better idea, let's torture them and THEN shoot them.

  • saw eric perform this at the start of a gig in 2001 in sheffield . incredible!

  • he's God

  • Who say's you need a pick.

  • incredible....simply incredible...

  • How does he do that?

  • 2:16...2:17, this "change" os chords and sound is incredible... only GOD could do this

  • WOW.... omg.... THE BEST!!!!

  • dats how its done...

  • did he sell his soul to the devil at the crossroads or what.....?

  • @tit4tat4dat

I saw him talking with a weird man called Robert Johnson before the concert ;)

  • @TravisBickle92 I drove a taxi cab, off and on for 15 years, in Lake Tahoe. I had a picture of Robert DeNiro, as Travis Bickle, on my dashboard. I got some fantastic tips, probably because people thought that if they didn't give me lots of money that I would blast them with a 6 1/2 inch .44 Magnum. People would ask me if I liked Robert DeNiro as "Taxi Driver," and I would tell them that the only difference between me and Travis Bickle was that I would have "made it" with Jodie Foster.

  • @theoriginalbadbob

Hahaha come on he needed to make it with that bitchy betsy (cybill sheperd) !

Would have been great to be on your cab BadBob !

All the animals come out at night !

  • @tit4tat4dat no just hour of dedication, practice, and learning scales its not hard once you know ure scales.

  • @tit4tat4dat if it was possible i would have done the same long time ago...

  • @tit4tat4dat No, but God gave him "the gift." And Mr. Clapton will be the first to tell you that. He does play like it's from very dark part of himself thoough, I will agress with that good sir.

  • @tit4tat4dat

There aint no crossroads in Ripley...;-)

  • @tit4tat4dat Yes! but as in the movie, then he dust the devil on the guitar contest! He is sooo good that God wants him in heaven!

  • @tit4tat4dat he sold his soul to drugs like most rock gods of his time.

  • @tit4tat4dat yes, he did!!!

  • @tit4tat4dat Would make PERFECT sense! .. but strangely, no:/

  • @tit4tat4dat ....you`re right....down at the crossroads he sold his soul to the devil...

  • @2littlelies .....I knew it.....one can`t do too much with a soul anyway....

  • @2littlelies Hey know, the devil sold his soul to Clapton

  • @MayChild8 Good point.

  • @rcw24always I think I mean "hell no" at that time:)) didn't know why I typed in "Hey know" :))

  • @2littlelies No way, or if he did... Jesus took it back: because for the last decade EC has been a devout Christian! He even sneaks in the back of the church and plays with the church band on Sundays from time to time.

  • @2littlelies Naaa Devil sold his soul to EC, Dont forget that Clapton is GOD!!!

  • That´s really awesome, I wanna see him live again...

  • I'm certain that if Robert Johnson would playe this music he would play just like that.Big Bill Broonzy would be proud too...

  • bloody showoff

  • let's not forget about the REAL people that wrote this song. Charles Segar and Big Bill Broonzy. I have no doubt there are plenty of dipshit posers out there that like to think Eric actually wrote this. I love his version, but the originals are where its at.

  • such a huge talent and asset to the music comunity and its listeners hopefully younger generations will not take his music for granted................

  • @clint1663 What would you know.. Honestly.. The man is a legend.. He didnt get where he is today by being shit.. Think about it...

  • No cleaner hands on earth, SIMPLY THE BEST

  • I don't think acoustic wise, there would be many that would give Clapton zzzzzzzz, maybe Tommy E can't think of many others

  • @ukandoittowithkandoo he doesnt care tho who's better,.. if you asked him

  • No, domo arrigato to you, Eric.

  • Bomb ass guitar playing ";^)

    Gotta love that Clapton

  • man, that was a flawless performance !

  • he even know how to say "thank you" in japanese!!

  • How i wish i had a Martin guitar 00028 EC.

  • what an idiot. Basically Everyone does everyones songs in blues. Led Zeppelins first album is essentially a cover album! :P

  • @TA77Brett Thats mis-information : two songs "you shook me" and "I can't quit you" were covers on Led Zeppelins first album. Lets not get in to Led Zeppelin's scandals of stealing other peoples music.

  • @atthewhiskey ... and babe i'm gonna leave you

  • @XxHeAdShAwTxX Oh who did the original of that man?

  • @atthewhiskey it was written by anne bredon in the fifties, then joan baez did it, then zeppelin

  • @TA77Brett

yeah, theres nothing wrong in taking a song and covering it,like this version is really different from the orginial,as when its clapton that plays it,its something else.

same with led zeppelin, when they covered when the levee breakes or babe im gonna leave you,it doesnt matter if you cover some songs, whats really bad is when youre a cover band, thats different.

  • @TA77Brett Did you call Eric Clapton an idiot?

  • @TA77Brett You call Eric Clapton an idiot ?! Shut up and learn to play guitar !

  • @rollingjones95 he didn't call Eric Clapton an idiot. That was for @tit4tat4dat

  • @cicumihai02 Oh I didn't read the other comment, was high from this music...

  • Comment removed

  • big bill broonzy !!!!!!!!!!!! thats all there is to it

  • @odingr It's some kind of metal strings.

  • @odingr they might be nylon, which is like fishing string kinda

  • NO, they're steel strings. His guitar is a Martin Eric Clapton steel-string guitar. Nylon strings aren't very good for acoustic style blues.

  • ya ur right. i was just tellin him that if they were "plasic strings" there called nylons. thanks

  • I very much doubt it :)

  • Martin strings

  • Clapton is god!
