Great to see this of Hetty. She was my dad's aunt so if she is my Gt aunt, maybe I am a 4th cousin to belmont4273 ... I saw some lovely pics of Hetty on ebay, dressed as a woman in her younger days. She is on the Coppock family tree. x Evaviv....
Also wendy038, your Gt Grandmother May Doe may have been my dad's cousin, if I have worked it out correctly. x Evaviv

Just wonderful footage. Hetty King was recently commemorated with a blue plaque by The Music Hall Guild of Great Britain and America. Bless her heart!

Due to family secrets, curiousity lead me to this fantastic footage. Im looking at my apparent great grandmother! The family resemblance is uncany. My grandmother was adopted by her fathers brother! I would love to find out whether this is true?
I am also researching my family tree and have been told that Hetty was the cousin of my Great Grandmother May Doe. I think Hetty was fabulous. Thanks for putting the clip on.
This bit of Winifred Emms (stage name Hettie King)is like gold dust to me. I am in progress of researching the Emms family tree, I have had lots of pictures of Hettie and family tree information, but to see her in living colour, well, takes my breath away. My own grandmother was a male impersonator around at the same time as Hettie King. My grandmother went on to marry and Albert Emms in 1919. Thank you so much for putting this image on youtube and immortalising Winifred Emms
I wish more of this documentary was here. The first half is fascinating as we see HK preparing in her dressing room, and there's a lot more of her act too including a wonderful finale.
This was filmed at the Hippo, Eastbourne. A beautiful theatre which I've had the pleasure of appearing at. I could think of little else other than HK at the time inc checking out which dressing room she'd been filmed in.
This was made by David Robinson who is now much admired for his Chaplin researches.
I saw Hetty King perform this routine many times. The first was in 1963 at The Metropolitan Edgware Road (last night at the 'Met'). Also later in the Don Ross Thanks for the Memory shows at the Empress Brixton and other venues. She performed up to her death aged 89. She was marvellous. The very last gasp of the music Hall. We will certainly never see the likes again. Don Ross never mentioned the name Emms. Arte you sure?
Why on earth has somebody given this nice, admiring comment a negative mark??
I couldn't agree more about how wonderful this is. All of this programme (I think it's about 35 mins in total) has fascinated and entertained me for years. I wish I had the facility to upload vids myself as I'd put this up for people to enjoy.
I'd also like to see the footage of Randolph Sutton that appeared in a Betjemen TV prog. I've never seen this or any other film of him.

I saw Hetty King at the Victoria Theatre in Salford. In her eighties I guess.
