LOL, people on here actually think the GTR will be faster than the ZR1, lol. It won't even be as fast as a Z06. It is slated to have around 450hp and weigh 3600lbs. More comparable to the LS3 C6 vette.

Even if it were true that hillbillys drive vettes, I would rather be a hillbilly and drive a vette than a fanboy that drives an over-priced playstation on wheels.

Just to remind you the production version isn't out. No one has bought a GTR yet, so you still don't know what the final production version will do. So that ring number means nothing until it is done in a production car.

The real hillbillys are the GM engineering team. Still making OHV engines? How they managed to continue to be made in the 21st century boggles the mind. DOHC engines are superior in Horsepower/liter, Fuel Economy, Emissions and every other aspect, except they cost more to build. I guess it is all about profit, not building good engines.

DOHC engines weigh also weigh more. Also OHV engines can get just as good fuel economy, look at the Gen 5 LS series engines. They can have VVT and DI just like a DOHC.

Why did an OHV engine win motorsports engine of the year last year? The top engine builders in the world voted for it. An entire Corvette Z06 costs less than most of the engines the LS7 beat.

Oh, and I know of a bunch of OHV engines that make 1000hp per liter. Way to not know what you are talking about.

The Z06 gets equal or better mileage than cars of the same performance. The Z06 gets 16mpg city, 26mpg hwy. While the F430 got 11mpg city, 16mpg hwy. Like you said the LS7 ($14,500) costs a lot less, as I found out, than engines of equal performance. I also found out the Mercedes 6.2L DOHC V8 engine costs $56,000! Just imagine how much the F430 engine costs.

DOHC engines have hemispherical combustion chambers with the spark plug in the center so the flame front moves evenly during operation, resulting in more complete combustion. Even the new LS7 heads are basically the same old wedge shaped combustion chambers. Writers praise its improved flow-for a 2 valve head. But these improved heads cant outflow heads with 4 or more valves per cylinder...

The funny thing is these people cracking on the vette cause it is an american car, sure its got the chevrolet name on it. but underneath it is mostly eourpean design. And it is one of the fastest cars made for the money. 500 factory hp for under $80k you cant really beat that. I do hope the gtr is fast enough to keep up with its legend. i really like both of the cars. ive driven the z06 now i wanna see what the nissan has.....

I've never liked skylines. i never understood what was soo good about them. but i have to admit, this ones gonna be nice. The only problem i have with it is that it doesn't have enough power for the size. Unless it comes out with at least 500hp, i won't respect it.

ya your right, ive read in magazines it would have at least 500hp, but then i watch this video and it says the opposite, i dont think turbo lag will be so bad, im pretty sure they will set the twin turbos to be sequential, one for the low rpm range and the 2nd turbo to kick in during the higher rpm's , but ya i guess we have to wait and see

they will be making a lighter version called the GTR spec V , and theres a company called Top Secret that already has a 525hp GTR, the engine has more potential but not until the cars "blackbox" is hacked that would allow the engine to be modified.

OK.. I'm gonna bash on both. Skylines been Global since the 90's...don't see too many Vette's in Europe now do we? Skyline discontinued because of poor management and car was not as profitable. How many American car makers are still in the black though? I'm disaapointed in both. GTR dropped the Skyline name and did not create a new engine for it. Vette? Just another one with newer bits and pieces. Don't bash on foreign design when USDM aren't true Steel, rough and tough no more either.

For the record, the current Z06 is a small-block V8 with big displacement. The ZR1 is a 6.2L V8 with a supercharger. There's enough technology in either motor to be driveable everyday cars but with enough torque in any gear change to be readily available.

Traction control is available on the RWDs rendering the traction gap between RWDs and AWds that much narrower.

don,t get me wrong I love the vette but AWd works better for me in the rain or snow or even in the mud, just slap on some big tires and we're ready to roll....LOL...any well engineered car deserves respect and both the vette and the nissan deserve it. The vette because its in a race with other RWD cars (Viper and Shelby Mustang,etc) different class,and the nissan because its going after Porsche. History has them both doing very well in there racing category....

GTR will be fast because it's computer operated AWD doesn't have to slow down around turns as often as any of the cars mentioned. GTR has the weakest engine mentioned and is very heavy. The GTR is a good car though and can beat the average Italian crap. I love the GTR but I hate fanboys.

You have no idea as to what you are talking about. The Z06 has a 7.0 litre V8 that is made of and ALUMINUM alloy and upholstered by magnesium. It is mounted further down and lower back into the car. The actual Z06 is lighter than a F430.

And the ZR1 is gonna be lighter. The ZR1 engine is smaller than the Z06 engine!

Believe it or not the GTR is the heavy. It weighs about 700lbs more than the Z06. It's only 200lbs lighter than those heavy ass Mustangs. lol

I agree though, you can't beat straight line power without big displacement or high compression in smaller engines. But can that badass drag car be tuned for circuit and still be a competitor? I dont think so. But it depends on what you want from your car.

Alot of big turbo japanese street cars are also making good showings at the drag strip.

In professional racing, most teams have the means to turn most cars into well-tuned track monsters, circuit or drag.

As far as street cars go though, most people dump cash to turn cars into drag cars or "track" style cars that they take out on winding roads.

on the skyline, Consider a few things. For starters, its a 3.7.. second off, throw a twin turbo kit on a stock Z block and see what happens.. exactly, WAY better engine.. third, don't let the HP numbers fool you, i'm sure the 480 hp or whatever is at like 6-8psi, whereas i'd be willing to bet any kinda money that with breathing mods and a boost controller we can expect 14psi or more, jacking the HP up a TON..

That's probably true, but I think torque is the main issue for the skyline. Even though the skyline is AWD, too much torque coming from higher boosting turbos is going to make it a lot harder to drive. Controlling the RPMs while you're in a corner, especially with a little wheelspin, is VERY difficult with lots of boost pressure trying to get through. That's the primary reason turbochargers aren't used more than they are, they're great for economic power, but they make the car harder to drive.
