  • gilbert o sullivan hates this song... and his is the one that sucks

  • RJD2 Poorboy lovermix ...bfore or after? Skooby dooo

  • I've just check this track out because i was reading about Gilbert O'Sullivan, i know well all have our tastes in music but this is close to being the biggest pile of crap i've ever heard....and i've heard some crap in my time!!

Yes i know songs have been sampled many times over the years...but there are certain songs(classic's)that should NOT be touched....including O'Sullivan's classic.

Though i point out this is my opinion!!!

  • i do think people have the right to say "no you cant use that sample" or "pay me". but damn man. theres no need to be a cunt about it, just settle it out of court with a few grand. but gilbert o sullivan decides he is gonna drag down the entire genre. i respect any artist that has a huge impact on music whether i like their stuff or not, but this guy basically killed the way we use samples in hip hop. imagine how many more mecca and the soul brothers we would have if it wasnt for one guys greed

  • @capcussa you are exactly right man,,,, fuck that

  • everyone samples, its been done for years, not just in hip hop. metallica have sampled, NIN do it. gilbert o sullivan never stopped the song, because i just listened to it. but they did change the course of hip hop for greed. people like pete rock, beastie boys, they used to use like 10 samples in a song before that shit, now you cant even get one cleared. no one owns the sounds that an instrument makes. i could go get the same instrument they had, replay it myself, and say it was a coincidence

  • Regardless of what O'Sullivan thought, I dont think you could have made sampling sound more beautiful than this song.

  • @mikeehokkaido21 I prefer the RJD2 version from "Your Face or Your Kneecaps" (3rd track) which, by the way did not create such a copyright scandal... I think Gilbert O'Sullivan freaked about the title and the lyrics but not about sampling.

  • @MrRouzik yeah.... the chorus hahaha

  • I love reading comments from other people who have watched a song the same as I did. Particularly, a rare classic, back in the day - unique - track like this.

Like it hate, sampled or not sampled, this is pure Hip Hop my friends - poetry to a beat. Rapper and a DJ telling a story. Won't compare it to anyone else because a track or an artist like this doesn't require comparision.

  • I can understand people get mad over sampling, but then again, if it wasn't for sample, thousands upon millions of hip hop fans wouldn't have been introduced to classic music, because when we hear a good sample, we're like daaaamn, what is that song? then we check out the original and dig it. it's all about spreading music.

  • This is one of the most famous sampling lawsuits. Gilbert O'Sullivan went ballistic and demanded that Warner Bros. recall every unsold copy of the album and destroy them. "

I Need a Haircut" was then re-released without the offending track. Biz could've faced prison time and the judge's ruling made a precedent for sampling.

Biz told XXL some years back that he had a verbal agreement with O'Sullivan's brother to sample the song. Dude should've got that permission in writing!

  • @themikedexperience1 it was on I need a haircut but the song was deleted off the current pressing cuz it was uncleared

  • nice pic

  • Similar beat

    /watch?v=3XRrMeiewg0

  • lol at the tags, weird sentense

  • a big fukn furburger who sued biz markie.. he could have just restricted the song from playing but hes greedy because his career went no where..

  • who the fuck is gilbert o'sulivan

  • exactly.

  • this song is so ill

way better than old crusty sullivan

  • Fuck Gilbert O'Sullivan, stupid son of a bitch ruined it completely. James Brown was sampled 100000 times every year yet he never ever sued any of the rappers. Funkadelic still gets sampled to this day and is paid respect but instead of suing every one of them, George Clinton and company actually command the rappers for the amount of respect.

  • LOL at the pic

  • what album this be off of???

  • @themikedexperience1 album is-- " I need a haircut"

  • Gilbert O'Sullivan..... FUCK YA :/ Killer

  • The dictionary definition of how to take a bad song and make it good. Fuck you, Gilbert O'Sullivan! Mad props to those who own the original album! Peace.

  • where did that get that picture of biz from thats wrong lol

  • hahah"I decided to upload this because the other one has dicks for quality."

one of the best descriptions ever

  • Daing that is a sick ass painting too!!!!!

  • Did`nt he get sued for taking the instrumental from some Artist?

  • @barlog20 yeah Gilbert O' Sullivan

  • @barlog20 he got sued for the sample he used for the beat

  • Dat's da Biz for ya, and the portrait is an exact likeness. Keep rockin ya body.

  • Who is Gilbert O'Sullivan and why does he sound like a doucher?

  • @musicjh92 biz got sued because he used a sample from Gilbert. biz's whole album got pulled out of the stores because of the sample that was used.

  • Hahahaha excellent description.

  • never heard this but its like im singing... haha fucking story of my life

  • Don't know about you but I'd love it if he showed up in my neighbor hood, just be him and maybe kick a show or just kick back and share the stories of the ways. Biz will for ever educate

  • @DJdoubleAy22 its ugh .....called sampling....and ugh....its uhm what formed hip hop,.... thousands and thousands of songs are sampled and the new sampling laws are ridiculous

  • I never understood why O'Sullivan leaped on the opportunity to take down this song, seeing as how the sound byte isn't remotely similar to O'Sullivan's use of the lyrics "alone again, naturally". It doesn't sound the same, nor is it used in similar context, nor is the music similar. He literally freaked out because Biz used the lyrics "alone again, naturally" but regardless, anyone could use those lyrics as they do not TRULY pertain or should be bound to O'Sullivan's song at all. what an ass.

  • @SolasidoBR He stole the piano part wholesale. I think O'Sullivan had every right to sue his ass. I'm sure he wasn't all too bothered about the money, but it's the principle, isn't it?

  • @MrZygoticmynci Well, I'm not too sure. I'm aware that the song used all of the chords from O'sullivan, but the chord progression sounds different, I may be wrong though. There's a fine line between spoofing and stealing. I feel like there is nothing Biz used that was absolutely wholesale from O'sullivan's song, then again, I never watched the court case, so I don't know the evidence that was used in O'sullivan's accusations.

  • @SolasidoBR Ok, wholesale suggested a bigger rip-off, so I retract that. However, the piano riff that underlines the whole song is from the introduction. Maybe O'Sullivan was wise to step in before this whole sampling malarky got out of hand? Regardless, both songs are ace.

  • @MrZygoticmynci I can agree to that. I just wish this song got popularized before O'Sullivan leaped on it. Kind of like the Vanilla Ice/ Queen case.

  • Who did this artwork? ( The PICTURE, not the SONG)

  • erik

  • this track is dope.. Biz Markie.. dude hasnt had it easy ever since gilbert o'sullivan decided to be a chump!!

  • i dont see why you have to do more then cite the artist

its just copyright bullshit so they can still sell their artist soul one peice at a time

  • 1. this song didnt kill old school hip hop

    2. biz markie went and used the beat even though he was asked not too

    3. im an old school hip hop head but i really dont think this song has anything on the original, the original has ALOT more heart

    respect to biz

  • Am I the only one who thinks Biz could have asked Gilbert in advance? I mean he *did* use his stuff....

  • @MartinKoolhoven

You do realize old school hip-hop sampled other people's song ALL THE TIME (before this incidence). Nobody really thought about the legal actions before this. O'Sullivan is kind of a bitch honestly. But Biz was also specifically denied the rights to use this specific sample, so he was pretty dumb as well.

  • @NippleBerry O'Sullivan is kind of a bitch? More like a limey Brit, Irish potato eat'n twat rag. "specifically denied the rights to use this specific sample", well, %&@# HIM! Who the hell does he think he is anyway? Johan Sebastian F&$@ing Bach? He was a 1 hit wonder, from the 70's, big deal. I never liked his music anyway. Granted he should definitely have been paid for the sample & all, but hey......bottom line.........nobody likes a whiny Brit.

  • @gjc82071 You stupid cunt. Nice touch of anti-Irish racism too...he's not a Brit. Nobody likes a whiny ignoramus.

  • @69CF Well way don't ya cry about it? Go & find your mama, so she can change your diaper, ya fuck'n baby.

  • great rap tune !!!!

  • Always fun to go back to 80's 90's hip hop once in a while. Kinda miss it.

  • you can tell how he based it on that song but he improved it for hip hop junkies, haha sick ass beat, that piano and the hook. cool songs

  • looks mean little the rap he spit is more then just awsome

  • Oh come on both this and the original alone again are classic works of art.

  • i can't believe that one man can change hip hop for ever...

  • check out copyright criminals great video

  • glad to see Gilbert O'Sullivans been staying busy making 5 profiles!

  • After all said and done, After the landmark case and millions of dollars Biz's rendition of this songis still heard right here on youtube. Gilbert you dumbass!!!!

  • this is just so god damn funky... O'Sullivan doesn't deserve credit. This takes the same melody sure, but this has a funky style to it. O'Sullivan plays it in a different context... a boring one. If you ask me context is more artistically important than who simply wrote the melody. It still takes an artful eye to put it together like this

  • Is that Impeach the President in there too?

  • @perspeeks YEP!

  • oh man i cried,

  • FUCK U Gilbert O'Sullivan

  • the track that changed the sampling game forever.

  • Phat yet laid back track from the doodoo rhymer -as always-

but I'm more impressed by the portrait - Where could I buy a print? Anybody?

  • @WorldGroovesVidz

I think it's just fan art but here's the link for it, you might be able to contact the guy or just get a high enough resolution version of it to print it fanpix net/picture-gallery/biz-markie-picture-12053351 htm

put world wide web at beginning and dots in the spaces

  • nice picture :D

  • Very very good song. I'm glad I stumbled on this.

  • Where's the repeat button..

  • Haha looks like old Gilbert O'Sullivan has been on youtube. 1 Dislike for this video. Hmm

  • @C24H88 he made 8 more acounts

  • @C24H88 it was his record company fucktard. You think when a katy perry video gets taken off youtube katy perry did it?

  • This is a fantastic track! It kills the Gilbert O'Sullivan song. Gilbert should appreciate Biz for reviving his song.

  • Comment removed

  • I need a HAIR cut.

  • what a great track, love the biz!

  • ive been looking for this song for so long cheers :)

  • the song that killed old school hip hop.

fuck u gilbert o'sulivan old man.

  • @jimromerulez

    word..

  • @jimromerulez

It wasn't Gilbert that actually sued him,It was his record company. They own everything singers do I mean that literally.

  • @jimromerulez i dont understand fill me in lol

  • @thakey69 O'Sullivan took Markie to court for using his music and thus it pushed the ruling of creative property and changed the landscape of music.

  • @Kamen1 Ahhhh ok, cheers for filling me in

  • @jimromerulez I'd like to know WHO WAS THE ONE HOW MAKE THAT SONG AT THE BEGINNIG?!!!..A NIGGA?.... HE JUST READ IT AND SING IT!!!! THAT'S IT, ISN'T IT????!!!! ... HE DIDN'T MAKE A SHIT!

    SUCKER!!!

  • @MendozaRogge

    Huh?

  • @jimromerulez fuck you cunt it wasnt gilbert o sullivan IT WAS THE RECORD COMPANY

  • @schclum nope sullivan said himself that he wanted to sue biz after for sampling him without his approval. Sullivan said that he found Biz Markie to be a "comic rapper" and that he did not want he did not want his song to be used in a "comic scenario" because it would be "offensive to those people who listened to his original song for the right reasons". So FUCK YOU CUNT. hah was it really necessary to write that? Jesus you are a douche, at least get your facts straight.

  • @thecatfish111 you are the douche sir

  • hey i like this song, i can see everything that happened oin this song, nice story telling man, this song is this shit.

  • "I need a haircut" it's the most underated biz's album, actually i think this is his best album.

  • Sampling is apart of the Hip Hop culture, i'm glad

they use to sample, and bring back the sound of yesterday.

sampling is still around, but hardly in the mainstream anymore

besides Kanye, whom you know is sampling.

peace to the culture, people who respect it, Gilbert and BIZ.

  • The quality on this is great, a lot better than the other one on YouTube thanks for this. Long live the Biz, this is my shit. What ppl may not know is that Biz's corporation asked for permission to use the sample but the album was released before they could say no. Whatever, legendary hip-hop music doesn't always need to be sold...

  • Its a shame gilbert sued him. Gilbert and biz are both masters. I suppose times were diffrent then and not many people did samples. Sorry for Biz

  • IF Gilbert would've seen the light and viewed the sample as a compliment, he could've got a piece of the pie.. like the artists that Diddy samples.

  • treasure(:

  • this is one of his best songs and I've been looking for it for years...I need this

  • nice up.

Shame the Biz got sued over this track back then. It's bullshit. If he hadn't got sued, this album would have made it further to the top..
