Now that's proper fishing! I hate it when people say "Hey, I caught a 200lb marlin" or whatever, because it's meaningless. They're strapped into a seat where they can use their legs, with belts and so on. This GT was landed properly, one guy, one rod (though ideally you should use the net yourself!)
the hose was to keep water pumping through the fish's gills. You can't just throw the fish back in, it will suffocate and die because there is no oxygen in its gills, pumping water in its mouth, or holding it by the tail and pulling it back and fouth in the water until it swims off by itself is a good way to ensure the least ammount of damage to the fish. It is also a growing trend to use barbless hooks, there is no need for barbed hooks if you are skilled
Interesting. Is that a pretty successful technique or do some of the fish end up dead? How common is it for fishermen to keep large GTs such as this instead of letting them go?

do not almost die .
Japan is northern limit of GT,
and can catch a big solid .
but there are few numbers .
GT fishing is not common at all in Japan .
we do this by most ships to follow
little GT.
Search [kawanoma] if you like !
you can see more GT VIDEO .
thank you .

Was the water hose kept in the fish's mouth so the fish was to be released after the photos were taken?
