@MartialKing1996 If karate makes it into the Olympics, it will be the light touch, first-touch "tag" point rules karate (WKF rules), not full-contact or continuous fighting karate.
Knockdown karate like this video (and all other full contact karate versions) is broken up into way too many factions (who refuse to cooperate) to ever have a chance to be let into the olympics.
I know several kyokushin groups are working on Olympic recognitions -but working separately, not jointly.
@kolsyrade I kind of agree, that is the advantage that TKD (and Judo) have, you can go anywhere and it is (basically) the same, and a much larger bunch of organization(s).
@the0tobes0machine According to tradition in kyokushin word tournament, ALL fighters cover or remove their kyokushin kanji. This dates back to the first WT when there was a lot of guest fighters from other styles. Referees was not to know who came from kyokushin or not (of course they did anyway) to stay unbiased.
Today there are much fewer guest fighters it the WT´s (although there still a few, no matter which kyokushin faction), but the tradition of covering up the kanji on the chest remains.
if you knock your opponent down, but he gets up within 3-5 seconds (it varies), you get half a point.
If he is not ready to fight again within that time you get a full point and win.If it is equal at the end of full time, you either get a win by decision (based on if the judges regarded one fighter as dominating the fight) or you get a time extension.
Usually you need several extensions before the judges give a decision win.
I think it was two extensions, and if no decision is still made, it goes into Kawarawari competition - the fighter announces how many kawaras (thin clay sheets, or 'bricks') he will break, and demonstrates this with a punch.
No. the breaks are done before the quarter finals. you do 4 breaks (punch, knifehand, elbow and "stomp" kick).
There is a minimum 2 board requirement for each break type, but if you want, you can try to break more -which may becomes useful if there is a tie in the fights later on.
And its wooden boards, not clay.
Its usually 2 extensions, or 3 in the final, then a look at broken number of broken boards, and look at weight difference. If there is still a tie, there is a final extension round
i hope full karate makes it into the Olympic games. pray to god it does.

Yamaki Is awesome, taking on the 100 man kumite and starting up Yamaki Karate, which is pretty much his own Kyokushin.
Now if only he had more than one school...

After all, who's fighting? The fighter or the kanji in the uniform? The answer is clear! What care if there's the kanji or not?

im actually a student of yamaki sensei and im pretty sure Yamaki sensei won this one.

Yamaki IS listed as champion of this world tournament, so I saying that he won this final fight is a safe bet :-)

Osu! Agreed. As much willpower as Kazumi has taking those low-kicks and not faltering, he could not hide that they were hurting him badly.
kingshisaa 2 years ago
agree, Yamaki sensei was totally dominating the fight and kept on fighting forwards
