See this hand that Im typing this with? Its shoock Chuck Berry's hand back in the 90s. I had the balls that only a teenager could and sneaked past security at a gig he played here in England. Re all those who put a weird spin on this song...Ive always thought, and having gone thru it myself now, know ,its about a Dad or Dad figure missing the little daughter of his Ex Girl Friend. My own "Marie" was 9 years old when she waved goodbye to me so this song is now double edged for me.
This is one of the first songs that played on the new transistor radio I just bought when I was visiting my Aunt and Uncle in Birmingham, Alabama in 1959.
They were love and I was from Long Island, New York (still).
Although the lyrics would imply the darling affection of childhood infatuation, because it was sung by an adult it always warmed me with the idea of how little girls show a crush for that special elder in their life and its evoked and humbling flattery.
Overall, for me, Chuck Berry's "Memphis Tennessee" will forever be the sound of the sleepy South in summer.
awesome!

Cmon,i understand this declaration, but Chuck berry has nothing to do with Racism. He even was a buddy of elvis into middle 60s.

Chuck once said: "I didn't do anything special. I just played rock and roll." Happy belated 85th, Chuck!
