@edvhou812 That is a good point. But I think there is also a valid argument on if the cold war was ever the threat the government (at the time) made it out to be. I think a lot of the money spent on the cold war was wasted, not as much as today perhaps, but still wasted. The Soviet Union was basically a third world country with nukes and a giant army, and look how easily they crumbled... it's laughable to think back and see how much of a threat the media made them out to be.

Bullet Trains on the other hand, I have to disagree with you there. They are cheaper and more efficient than busses and airplanes, they are very fast, and could help out certain areas a LOT. I know for a good example: Central/Southern California to Las Vegas, All throughout Florida, the greater NY area, and Chicago, just to name a few.

As for High-Speed rail, I am afraid it has been oversold. A line is not going to Las Vegas, where it is disparately needed, but there will be one from Madison to the Twin Cities. Makes no sense. Many of the lines are a waste of money, and I know that Ron Paul would be against that.

@itsjustadeer The spending was high, but it was done during the Cold War. The real crime is the continuation of Cold War spending long after 1989. Bush, Obama, and the banks have done more to hurt this country financially than Reagan ever did.
Do you really think that bullet trains will work in the United States? I work for a company that is involved with some of bullet train projects that are planned, and they are simply a joke. Ron Paul would likely laugh at the trains.

@edvhou812 That is a good point. But I think there is also a valid argument on if the cold war was ever the threat the government (at the time) made it out to be. I think a lot of the money spent on the cold war was wasted, not as much as today perhaps, but still wasted. The Soviet Union was basically a third world country with nukes and a giant army, and look how easily they crumbled... it's laughable to think back and see how much of a threat the media made them out to be.

Bullet Trains on the other hand, I have to disagree with you there. They are cheaper and more efficient than busses and airplanes, they are very fast, and could help out certain areas a LOT. I know for a good example: Central/Southern California to Las Vegas, All throughout Florida, the greater NY area, and Chicago, just to name a few.

@itsjustadeer The Cold War threat was a bit overblown, particularly since we are in a new Cold War today, but I don't think the Russians were as small as a threat as you say.
As for High-Speed rail, I am afraid it has been oversold. A line is not going to Las Vegas, where it is disparately needed, but there will be one from Madison to the Twin Cities. Makes no sense. Many of the lines are a waste of money, and I know that Ron Paul would be against that.
