Damn thats terrible, when we got evac'd out of new orleans after hurricane katrina, we were taken to a military base in Okl that redcross was running ( damn if i remember the name) it was ok. didnt have the horrors that this place had thank god ( redcross was keeping it clean, plus all us evacuee's)or i would have been hitch hiking back to new orleans.

Holy shit! Those are still the old barracks! I was in A Co. 1/505 P.I.R. from 94-97. When I ETS'd in sep 97 they were tearing down barracks down by 82nd maintinence. Division was supposed to be getting new barracks shortly after I thought. I guess not. Those are the exact same barracks we were in.

I am a former MARINE.because of stories like this I will never go to a VET hospital.I had been informed by the HEADQUARTERS MARINE CORP that i may have been infected with cemmicals while I was at camp Lejune N.C.I would rather die a slow death then go to a VET hospital where ppl doctors and nurses don't have any compassion or care for vets.Until i see something to prove that VET hospitals give the same care or more then a VIP can get.

@yakuza539 my friend's sister went through the va after suffering 2 gunshot wounds to her head, and my dad was in and out of the va due to mental conditions that ultimately caused him to take his own life in new orleans..i wouldnt send my worst enemy there.plus va hospitals are teaching hospitals

When i was in AIT there our barracks looked worse than this. The buildings are no longer there anymore. Good training.

Those same barrack are the ones I lived in when I was active duty back in the early 90's. They were crappy back then. However, I have seen the new barracks that soldiers live in today and they are kinda spoiled.. they live way better than we did.. but these conditions are horrible. However if the soldiers today had to actually maintain the old barracks like we did they would be calling their congressmen, LOL.

I remember going in to those Barracks back in 06' to help get them ready from the guys coming home. I just remember thinking. "Really? They're staying here? Seriously?" The pictures DO NOT do those buildings justice. They were way worse. Thankfully when I was at Bragg six months ago, they were tore down, with new barracks being built.

1. A SGT Should not be living in the barracks. They qualify for Basic Allowance for Housing to live offpost. In Fort Bragg, that $ can get you a really nice condo.

2. These are barracks on fort bragg, but not the 82nd airborne division's barracks that Pres. Bush is touring today. 82nd gets all the funding and consequently their barracks are nicer than some luxury time shares.

lastly, the federal government has to pay for housing for people who just dont feel like working.

@Rompcom you are wrong on #1. A SGT can live in the barracks. The only way a SGT lives off post is they have been approved for a Certificate of Non-Availability, meaning there is no space available in the barracks for that soldier.

NOT TRUE. I was in the Officers Club at Bragg. It has NEW TEAK BARS and paneling, Micro Breweries Beautiful Pool and emenities. The Officers Wives Club has Beautiful Facilities too. Why do you enlisted swine complain. You should be proud your Officers are taking such good care of you.

My nephew was an officer. He wasn't rich. He drove the city bus and worked his way through college...In high school he worked in everything, construction, farms, you name it. He made himself successful. You shouldn't everyone has it easy that is successful. My nephew worked 12-18 hours with classes and job. HE went without sleep and went when he was sick. Now he's a CEO.

He does everything according to, "DO THE RIGHT THING" and lives by the GOLDEN RULE.

I am in the army and i got the shit smoked outta me because of this, because if it werent for this they wouldnt be checking the shit out of all the barracks and i didnt know their was an inspection and i had a few beer cans layin around and i got fucked up for that so thanks douche bag this is just the way shit is its not higher rankings responsibilty to make sure our shit is clean and workin its the assholes like me and my roomate who party all the time and dont report shit or fix it. asshole

LOL the journalist asks why it couldn't have been done before the soldiers got home, but everyone knows the answer. The only reason the barracks was fixed up was because people saw the video. I'm sure there are hundreds of army bases with the same or worse conditions around America.
