black bottoms appear because, you playng with 16:10 monitor, and the vga hd cable supports only 16:9, but if you want to play with 16:10 you need to buy hdmi to dvi cable, then you will have full screen, because only hdmi supports 16:10, and the video quality is better on hdmi because the signal directly comes from hdmi to diginatal monitor input, and don't need to covert that signal to analog signal, which one is absolutely worse then digital.
@uniline If you stay with HDMI the signal sent out does not have to be broken down into analog and reconstructed back into digital. With VGA that happens and there is a loss of quality. HDMI >VGA. I'd say half of people don't notice it though.
I just got one of these cables used from Gamestop. But at 1680x1050 and at other resolutions on other monitors I get a real blurry washed out look. Is it as clear as a normal TV for you? It looks really sharp and clear. Thanks!
Well I am confused then. 1680x1050 is a 16:10 ratio, and the Xbox only does 16:9, so to fill the area it uses black bars at the top and bottom so the picture does not get vertically stretched and look funny. I play on my 16:10 monitor and I get these black bars. Anything special you did? Thanks for replying so quickly = )
@pcman09 Game is at full screen, and fills out 100% of the screen. it is just the border of my monitor that is showed in the video = poor placement of my video recorder :)
With vga or dvi : 1920x1080 and hdmi 1080p or 1680x1050
