Very helpful video, Edna! Thank you. I want to make rich colored fall flowers for a wedding cake. I also have the powder, color dust to deepen the fall colors for shading. Do you steam your flowers after? Thanks for all your teaching. :)
i tried coloring my mashmallow fondant red and failed...my fondant was litterally crumbling and falling apart...i dont know why...it was fine till i put alot of red in it...i dont know if it dried out cause i was neading it with corn starch...maybe that what happened...but no matter how much red i put it would not turn red...=( and i have to do my nephews cake next week which is elmo so i HAVE to get this down asap...please help!
@tonedna1 wilton colors in the little white tubs...i actually added the color in the melted marshmallows and it came out perfect =) it took almost the whole little container but it worked and i added some fushia pink too i have the video posted on my channel if u want to take a look =)
@daniela23ish Marshmallow fondant can be more tricky. Specially using wilton colors. Americolor and chefmaster have more pigment and need less color. But MMF can be more temperamental
Just a Tip: for those who bake from home and have limited supplies, you don't need to go out and buy an airbrush to get the airbrushed look, or to easily get color on just the right amount of fondant. I have these things called colormist food color sprays, and u spray it onto a cake after frosting or on a decoration :) they are very cheap
the way you explain is amazin, i have tried black gel coloring and ended up with black hands like for 2 days! this way is just perfect, thank u! i subscribed!
Does the same principle apply when making black? Just keep adding more color until its black? I can never turn my white frosting black, no matter how much color I add, so I just assume fondant and gumpaste would be just as difficult to turn black.
@tonedna1 Of course :) I usually use both pure almond extract and pure vanilla extract in my butter cream, but sometimes it seems a little strong, but I think I've got just the right recipe now. I really do appreciate all the time you put into your videos. It is just so helpful [: Thank you!
Great video Edna! I DID enjoy the video :) I think this will work well for a small amount, it's just hard when you have to cover an entire cake with deep red.
i've missed you! It was awesome you popped up with a new video, thank you, you are such an awesome teacher. congrats on everything you're so deserving.
I really enjoy your videos & your amazing cakes. My 16 year old daughter & I make cakes as a hobby. We recently used gumpaste & fondant for the first time. It was a two layer graduation cake with a 10" dbl chocolate bottom layer, & a 6" carrot cake top layer. Both layers covrd in homemade white fondant w/blue fondant decorations on the cake. We also made a black grad. cap with gumpaste to top the cake. We had so much fun! Looking forward to your future videos! :)
great tutorial, just wondering if chefmaster delivers to Australia as it doesnt have that on their website? Also do you colour your black the same way?
@ruski6969 I am not sure, but contact them, bakedeco website has a variety pack of them. They are called liqui-gel. And their black is excellent. Americolor is good too. I do the black the same way
