  • Lun <3

By far the most impressive/awesome vehicle ever build

  • Here we go again, another russian film proud of their dinosaurs

  • russians love building cool shit then letting it rot in fields. its a shame, they have some great ideas and concepts.

  • what a fun target

  • cool

  • RUSSIA No.1 !!! uraaaaaaaa..

  • @1968drale I disagree but I will say that their planes are badass.

  • @Flyboy207 man, it would rape most US naval vessels of its time, stop being jealous....

  • @harris3693 I never disagreed with that

  • Don´t forget that plane was designed to invade America.

  • The Russian government asked the Russian CDB named by Alekseev in the next few years to resume production of еkranoplanes , which ended in the early 1990's. To renew the design and development work is planned in two phases, the latter of which will begin in 2012.

  • @BESTvideoVIEWER is this for real man or is it rumor talk?

  • @akulax2 for real, cous of prestige and for not lost the "game".

because many country started to do such things

  • Soviet and architecture engineering always looks like you visit a parallel world. Fascinating! Too bad that the technology disappeared with the fall of the Union.

  • This is amazing. I am surprised this hasn't replaced international overseas travel. Except I might be a bumpy ride. Still a very cool aircraft all the same and very unique looking too. thank you for posting this video.

  • What is this tune? from 0:17~ cool techno music!

  • how do you move this think once landed on a beach? how can you move this thing?

  • @rubenfonte it has wheels below it which get deployed under its hull for land use.

  • cool it flys fast under the radar with alot of cargo!

  • Never understood why the Soviets had such success with counter rotating props but the United States always had trouble with them.

  • @49bobbyk easy, the Russians payed attention in calculus during highschool while Americans were getting laid, hence they made them their biatchs from 1960-1990, which then it became close to a stale mate until now, which the Russians are the only ones with a reliable form of reaching the ISS (which they cofunded). their Energia rockets are like the Ford F-150s of the rocket industry!!! Built Energia Tough, no advertisement needed to prove, only records.:-) !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • LUnj haha

  • God everything Russian just looks like dangerous galactic space bugs. But eight massive engines on that last one? Good grief! And can it even use proper ground effect in rough seas or is it just a fair weather sailor?

  • @ursavostock

No its not a good weather plane/ship = ekranoplan.

    It's also for rough sea.

  • Ok, so is it a low flying cargo plane or a high riding hydroplaning boat with wings? I'm guessing that speed is the reason for its design, and possibly the reduction of its signature on radar, but damn, it's so weird. Is it possibly the only plane that uses both jets and props?

  • @leananshae No, speed was not the Ekranoplane's strong suite (it's actually fairly slow). Fuel efficiency, as well as below-radar sweep was it's advantage due to wing-in-ground effect.

  • Imagine the fuel bill for that sucker.

  • @sheebaridgeback

Cruising engine (1x НК-12МК) is the same as on Antonov АН-22 that have 4 of these and max takeoff mass 250 tons vs. Eaglet's max takeoff mass 140; also on Tupolev Ту-95К+ (4x same engine +1.3 of its takeoff mass), Ту-126, Ту-142, Ту-114.

Harrier with takeoff mass 380 tons, payload weight 137 has 8x НК-87, it's sea mod of НК-86 that was on Ил-86 (4x) with its 215 takeoff / 42 payload weight.

    So...

  • Comment removed

  • @sheebaridgeback The Ekranoplane was known for it's high fuel efficiency. In the case of the missile carrier, all eight engines were used during take-off and landing only. During cruising, only 2 engines were used. in this mode, It was one of the most fuel efficient transporters ever made.

  • @gareebee perfect for Cross globe invasions!!!!

  • @ FlashFWD:

Well, that's Eaglet, it landed and took off on the water with 2 m waves, ran on the beach, carried up to 200 marines or 2 amphibious tanks. One that _lost its tail_ after landing on rocks managed to skim on small takeoff engines all the way back to its base.

And that's Harrier with 6 antiship missiles. It was way cheaper and faster than a destroyer while less visible and fragile than a plane.

While both were mostly test vehicles. And that's about all.

  • what was the point?

  • @mattfishca 140 soldiers or 2 tanks,450 -500 kms speed, dificult to detect coz its practicly ship, but you dont have ships with this speed.

  • I really wouldn`t call this a ''plane''.

Because the higher altittude that it could reach was only few hundred meters.

  • El rasputin de los aviones!

  • can you subtitle in english?

  • sorry, it takes a lot of time and work to do subtitles.

but, if you know some program that can do it easily, or someone who would be willing to do it, let me know.

  • @paveltul i'll translate....the ekranoplan kicks ass

  • @paveltul You tube has a beta closed caption for different languages.

  • @paveltul the problem is every American video fo the Lun is bad, with false information and such, like theyre biased they didnt do it first. Would love to hear what they were saying on this for some actual info. Great video though!

  • @BeerMoneyLive

Right false info because we never built a jet powerd Spruce Goose. So there for you can't believe nothing on the Military Channel or History Channel.

BML, ever wonderd why they parked this rust bucket?

  • @FlashFWD I could translate but I'm not willing to make subs because I don't know how to .

  • flying brick?

  • Amazing concept. I wish that someone would get these things moving across the Great Lakes. Imagine the profit that could be made in that such idea.

  • @masterchief377 Ya, Canada needs Cleveland Hookers transported at a much faster rate ,the ferry service just doesn't cut it !

  • @masterchief377 yes, but Russia won't allow americans to have this aircraft, only if the US stops being such a redneck!!!

  • @harris3693

It's just the Russian version of the Spruce Goose, and nothing we never needed. I guess the idea or concept of a caft like this is uniqe but they really no other great purpose besides being a very fast ferry.

  • think about it ,the big ones clear 20 meters who is going operate in really bad weather ,think about all those inland bodies of water .

  • the first is the A-90 orlenok

the second is the LUN class ekranoplan

and the caspian sea monster is an early version and one of the biggest planes to ever technically fly. but is niether of those in this part, it might be in part one but i've yet to watch it.

  • this is the most innovative thing i've ever seen.

  • It is a pity, that, peace application of this miracle has not been realized.

And what potential! Sochi - Antalia on the sea for the speed of 500 km!

Has created its Alexeyev. The great Russian engineer who has outstripped time.

  • I agree, and this is SUCH a beautiful aircraft, no sarcasim. It's so graceful as it "levetates" on the water. If Russia takes this seriously, they may become the world's most powerful nation once again (I say "once again, because I believe, even though it was a bad thing, they COULD have murdered us in the WWII and Post-War Periods, took us awhile to catch up, we got so lucky they didn't declare war, thank God o.o)

  • i know it's an old comment but i just felt like "well that's not right". russia is the biggest, most powerful force and nation. they keep the earth from nuclear war with just ONE SINGLE submachine that have firepower enough to kill every person in the world TWICE!, and can hit half of the world from the position it is now. russia IS and will ALLWAYS be the most powerful nation. and remember, one single submachine could do that

  • @skullsplitter102 ya sorry but you're retarded

  • comming up; the best reply ever!.... "you know that i'm doing your mom, doing your mom!". or not...

  • fail! your comment does not even make sense .

  • then let me do it simple for you... i did your mon

  • what's a "mon"

  • actually the first, the A-90 orlenok was amphibious, and your comment is retarded, how can you blame america for the amount of lift produced by a wing? the ekranoplan is faster than any ship and more fuel efficient than an airliner. the A-90 orlenok had a 4000 mile range.they can also carry a heavier load than air cargo.

  • horrible sound

  • is there any translated video out there?

  • Because it's cool :D

  • russia and america should team up. with russian technology and american financing we can take over the world...

too bad that will never happen, and we will have to settle on them fighting and brining the apocolips with that.

  • Looks like the weenersnitzelemobile has competition.

  • Far more interesting is the personal carrying capacity 500 soldiers with 400km/h... hmmm

  • ххх 500 км /h

  • russians makes the best planes

  • Looks like they cut-out the footage of the launched missile at 3:18 just before it hit the water :)

  • its an anti ship missile...

  • I guarantee you -- we have not seen the last of this type of craft. Extremely efficient, high speed load carriers. Don't be surprised to see FedEx on the side of a huge one in the coming years. Alexeyev was a genuius!

  • fuck fedex , we dont need them to buy us out. we will have russian company logo on it. why the hell people like you always think that the world needs your greedy corporations as saviors? there r many kickass companys which are not US owned. Nokia(finland) kick ur Motorola (US) ass bigtime. you can lie to US citizens but the rest of the world is not dumb

  • You misunderstood the statement. You will also see Aeroflot, Polyot Air, and other large companies using this type of ship. The various freight companies, whom ever they are, will only purchase them from the manufacturer -- who may very well be Russian. Alexeyev was a brilliant man.

  • Sure, that's why the U.S. has the worlds largest GDP at $14 trillion and the Russian GDP is about $1.2 trillion..the single state of California alone has an economy larger than all of Russia!

  • Actually, the EU has the largest GDP at $14 Trill. The USA is at $13 Trill.

  • Actually the E.U. is not a Nation. The E.U. is made up of 27 nations and has a GDP(PPP) of around 14 trillion with a population of 500 million and GDP per capita of $28,000. The U.S is one single nation with a GDP of 14.3 trillion with a population of 300,000 million with a GDP per capita of $47,000 What I said is 100% correct! With a GDP per capita of $19,000 more than the EU,the U.S. is more productive and does this with 200 million fewer people!

  • the EU has established a single economic market across the territory of all its members. Currently, a single currency is in use between the 15 members of the eurozone. Considered as a single economy, the EU generated an estimated nominal gross domestic product (GDP) of US$16.83 trillion in 2007, amounting to 31% of the world's total economic output, which makes it the largest economy in the world by nominal GDP and the second largest trade bloc economy in the world by PPP valuation of GDP.

  • Comment removed

  • As I said it is 100% fact the U.S. has the largest economy of any nation on earth! Its GDP per capita is $19,000 more than the E.U. gdp per capita! the U.S. unemployment rate averaged around over the last 25 years has been 5.5-5.6%. Many Europeans nations were double the U.S average unemployment rate!

  • Its nice to see that the Military Ekranoplanes are laid up and have not been scrapped, but in a TV documentary I saw a number of years ago they showed an even bigger one that was under construction when the plug was pulled "Spsartal" it was called, I just want to know did they ever finish it or was it still born?

  • That is "Spasatel" and it's Project 903 LUN class ekranoplan. The only difference is, that it was reequipped as a SAR craft, and the number of engines was reduced to 6. The whole craft is actually finished, apart from the interior. So it still is waiting in Nizhny Novgorod, for some money, and it could be put in service. But without the help of a new contractor, who could bring some money into the project, I don't think that's going to happen.

  • in 1993, the usage and development of ekranoplan was stopped after it has been shown to the americans. I have pitty with people who don't understand what this means. it's like 2+2. the russian gouvernment makes decision against russia.

  • decisionS

  • 0:22 it's caspean fleet exercise in 2001 =)))

  • Look at the last shot ) It's smiling !

  • Good one Boris!

  • Crazy communists did not allow Alexeyev to make a better version. He wanted to make ekranoplane, which could carry airplanes. Imagine. That is the power. The ecranoplane, which is aircraft carrier. But Americans were clever enough to convince all Russian rulers that all that is nonsense and they stopped the production.

  • And your comment is total nonsense! Please back it up for me and prove your saying here!!

  • How many of these russian monsters were there made?

  • Kлaсснo! удивитeльнaя мaшинa! пoчeму o нeи пoлнoстью зaбыли и дaжe нeвспoминaют??? пoмoeму этo былбы прикрaсныи aссимeтричныи oтвeт нa aмeрикaнскиe aвиoнoсцы...

  • 40% more efficient than plane

    Load-544 metric tons (world record)

    Stealth-radars can't see

    Speed- 450+km/h

And few build like a rockets carrier to hunt down US aircraft carriers

    Ultimately called "Aircraft carrier killer"

  • why do not inserte subtitle in english? It could be very usefull :-D

  • Lun was flying 1993

  • you can make a lot of washing machines when this goes in the recycle.

  • russians makes the best planes

  • How sad it is, the fate of these great machines. The Lun is insane - 6 Sunburns from a high-speed mobile launcher skimming the waves, would be a carrier group's worst nightmare. Or maybe I should be glad, then.
