  • Both of my front wheels spin wobbly / crooked, is this a wheel bearing problem or alignment?? I can't figure it out .. please help.

  • @PocketsGotBigMoney jack it up in the air and try it out, it'll be obvious if it wobbles when turned by hand.

  • wanted to let you know i searched for this tpye of work on youtube and Google and your video came up first.Im trying to do a mazda mpv 96 but dont know if i have the same options as far as replacing the whole hub or do the bearings?

  • @beatzfromchicago most guys do the whole hub, it's easier.

  • hey, thanks for the helpful video, it's nice to see someone who actual enjoys what they do.

  • This is not a professional job ha ha

  • @logymustanggt yea, but it works. I of course have a machine press and all that stuff, but most people don't. So I show people how to do it without such expensive equipment

  • @logymustanggt THIS IS NOT A SITE FOR HATERS.LEAVE YOUR COMMENTS ON THE EMPTY WALL BEHIND YOU

  • Thanks for this video, it helped me determine that I don't want to mess with it and I'll now be taking it to the mechanic.

  • easy

torque specs are actually important for toyota's

  • @ledgesclimber I've been fixing cars for 44 years and have the touch myself.

  • Comment removed

  • @norbert0tymon No, but you're an idiot to think so.

  • is this the same for a 2000 front bearings.

  • @hp11208 slightly different, watch my other video "replacing front wheel bearings"

  • @scottykilmer wow sir u r amazing

  • good vid scotty, a lot of views there.

  • Great video sir. Thanks. I've been reading alot about cars and this video helps alot.

  • Lmao. This dude is too much, my douche-ometer tacked out at over 9,000.

Thanks for the tip, you crazy motherfucker.

  • @CaliforniaCarpenter7 thats your "SELFHATERMETER" bearing for brains. Now go crawl under a car doing this job with a hydro jack with a slow leak you bum lol

  • @beatzfromchicago Lol, it's nice to converse with the lowest common denominator from time to time. I wonder if you cried when your mother shit you out of her loose asshole, "Water Birth" by means of toilet.

Got any more gems for me, faggot?

  • BTW, little tip for people. To make the job easier, consider buying the entire hub. Then you wont need any pullers....only wrenches. Jobs a done!

  • Cheers Scotty, very useful video unlike most of the crap floating around on youtube!

  • Good video but I still don't feel confident in doing this job. Mainly cause I don't have the tools. So is it worth it taking it to a mechanic to fix? I am 80% sure the roaring is caused by rear wheel bearing. How much do you think it will cost to send it to a mechanic?

  • Pretty good!

  • Do you have a video on If its a Drum and not a disk?

i searched in your video's under bearing but didnt see something that could exsplain.

  • @thunderking323 not yet, but it's the same process, just remove the drum and the 4 bolts are hiding inside you can remove em without even moving the brake shoes on most vehicles.

  • Scotty, I have a 04 Subaru Legacy. The back tire squeals/screeches intermittently while driving. If I tap on brakes, it stops but then starts back up. Is this the wheel bearing. I have had brakes checked and told they are OK...if it is a bearing, do I follow the same steps to remove the old bearing as your video. Thank you.

  • @116pbb same basic steps, but normally wheel bearings roar as they wear, roaring louder the faster you go. I would assume brakes in your case if it doesn't roar yet. Scotty

  • Hey Scotty, I have a 95' Jetta GL. Is it about the same?

  • @nesbitt17 yes.

  • Hi Scotty, this is the best explanation video I have seen so far. It was very simple and straight forward.

  • Hi I have 96 Toyota Corolla DX is it going to be the same or different thank you.

  • @zfasakr pretty much the same. Scotty

  • what about verada 98? similer? or it will be more complecated?

anyway thanks for ur time and vids. its very good for beginner mechanic like me.. :)

  • @mosesnguntual na, about the same. Scotty

  • If you get this done in less than 4 minutes, you should be a flat rate tech.

  • Is changing the wheel bearing on a 01 Hyundai Elantra fairly similar?

  • @adamoverboard138 yep. Scotty

  • Hello Scotty!, i have a BMW e30 325is. It is a rear wheel drive. Would the wheel bearings/hub for the front and back be the same? Great videos by the way! i was able to find a vacuum leak thanks to you!

  • @tususpop no, they are different. and a pain to change due to insane BMW design requiring some very expensive fancy tools. Scotty

  • hey scotty, many thanks for the video. there a proper name for that puller? gonna go find one tomorrow.

  • @laserbeak43 never mind, found it in an earlier post. Thanks!

  • @laserbeak43 wheel bearing puller kit. Scotty

  • seems like very little work for someone to charge me 300 damn dollars.

  • @itsmandaxlove that's why I make these videos, to show you how. scotty

  • Scotty, I have a '03 Kia Sorento 4x4, & it sounds like my rear wheel bearing is beginning to go out. Do you have any pointers, or is there anything particular that makes working on a Kia different from other makes of vehicles?

  • @73formula no, pretty much the same as this video. scotty

  • good video, helped me alot mith my citroen xm. It has almos the same idea for rear wheel bearings. Thanks Scotty

  • @scottykilmer Hi Scotty, I have an 04 Toyota Highlander V6 4x4, and the right rear wheeling bearing needs replacement. I took my car to a shop, and they estimated that it would cost about $850 for the part then $300 labor for a total of about $1150 + tax since my car has ABS. Is this a reasonable price? Also, if i were to do this project by myself, would it be the same as you did in this video for the avalon or is it going to be different for SUVs? Thanks a lot! your videos are great!

  • @coolio16484 don't try it yourself, but find a cheaper garage. That axel is a really dumb design you need a giant machine press to do the job. Last one I did, I took apart, but had to take the sub axle to a big machine shop to get the old bearing off and the new one in. But 1150 is just rediculous. . You must be in california. Scotty

  • make a video for 2005 malibu ls ..how to change rear hub bearrings plsss..:(

  • Mr Scott.. thank you for your videos.. question on a 2002 mitsubishi eclipse spider, is it the same concept?? I have the humming noise on my rear right side of my car.. thank you again.. Nelsoni1959.

  • @MrNelson1959 yep, pretty much the same exact job, as most japanese cars share similar designs. Scotty

  • hi scotty, if i hear a humming sound when i am driving over 70 mph, is it the wheel bearing or is it something else? i just got 4 new tires, and it still makes a noise.

  • @jsridharma generally it's a wheel bearing. Scotty

  • I don't like the way he works, he turned Toyota into a PT Cruiser.

  • Exactly what i needed to see, great step by step, Thanks Scotty!

  • is it the same on a truck rear end?

  • @plague1313 not in most trucks, they use bearings on a long axle shaft that you pull off using a slide hammer, then the bearing is pressed onto that long shaft once you remove it. Scotty

  • Thanks!

  • changing my rear hub on my 2001 corolla today.thanx for the pointers scotty

  • hey Scotty thanks for the swift reply about my front wheel hub assembly. yeah my celica is 1990 Toyota Celica GT. I found many website that sells the front wheel assembly hub but they could not tell me if it has bearings in it.

  • Well, shit. This is WAY different than replacing a skateboard wheel bearing.

  • Thats awesome! Thanks Scotty

  • Is this guy on crack?

  • @woodbinedrinker Strange how people give such inane comments. Think of something more original next time. I happen to be a live person, unlike the many ghouls inhabiting our planet these days. Scotty

  • @scottykilmer May I give you a little advise?..Don't let morons get under your skin, especially youtube commenters..Just ignore and feel sorry for them..You're spot on with the "ghouls inhabiting our planet" thing..It's become a rampant phenomenon that most people are walking talking brainwashed, robot zombies that don't have the sense to think out of their bubble..e.g. Instead of people following your very helpful steps in this video, they are programmed to take their cars to the stealership.

  • @scottykilmer Hey Scotty, I am about to tackle a lot of projects on my 89 Pontiac Firebird Formula 350. I will be "ATTEMPTING" to change out some bad seals, gaskets, and bearings. Any tips? Particularly for replacing the rear wheel bearings and rear axle seals? Will I NEED bearing pullers and slide hammer to install the bearings for the firebird?

  • @Zhimaru Oh also, thanks in advanced! :)

  • @woodbinedrinker I think the word you're looking for to describe this guy is flamboyant; look it up. It's not a bad thing. Some people are just more exuberant than others. The world would be pretty boring if everyone just walked around talking like Ben Stein.

  • @wc4pwned If he's using a driveway as an anvil, he should have at least put th enuts on the thread ends to keep them from being damaged.

Also removing the race that way does damage the shaft and reduces the life of the next bearing.

  • so i grind a groove how deep 1mm enough and it should crack down the groove?

  • @WarlDogg Pretty deep, almost the whole way down, steel is Really strong. Scotty

  • @scottykilmer Ok thanx its done. how much do you know about corollas? I have a australian ae93 seca sx and am havin to change all the trailing and control arm bushes on the back but have removed the rear left knuckle and found the outer control arm bushes are way larger than standerd while the iner control arm and all trailing arm bushes are standerd! im taking it to a wrecker to try and match it to a defernt model! Is it posable its off an ae94 or somthing

  • @WarlDogg Yes, they are great transportation cars. But when I fix em, I use brand new parts that always fit. You could try some junk yards, I would assume there is some compatibility in different years. Scotty

  • Thank you scotty:) I have another question

how many hours of labor it takes to replace the right front wheel bearing ? 2-3 hours ??

  • @1684ba Yes, I do it in 45 minutes or so but I've been doing it for 43 years. 2 or 3 hours is enough for most people. Scotty

  • I need you help Scott please, my car does a humming sound when I drive on the highway faster than 35mp and it gets louder with the speed. the thing is i'm trying to finding a connection between these symptoms ; I hear a ticking sound when releasing the clutch, and I think I smelted something today like burning (I'm not sure about this one). can a bad wheel bearing do this ?? please help ;)

  • @1684ba humming is bearing, ticking is the clutch wearing a little inside, they are not related. Scotty

  • @ Scotty....sorry I asked before I found you other video on a F.W.D. thank you. KEEP UP THE GREAT HELPFUL VIDEOS and your very understandable and clearly spoken. Step by step videos are just awesome. THANKS AGAIN for your helping myself amongst all other whom are broke in this horribley economy lately sir. I appreciate it very much!

  • @Opeysan Well, watch my other video "replacing a front wheel bearing in your car" for that.Scotty

  • @ Scotty..sir I have a 93 Saturn SL2 (F.W.D.) that has a BAAAD front wheel bearing. I am only working 3dys wk. so I NEED quick, cheap fix. Quoted $200 but can not aford that w/my daughter schooling cost. I drive daily 40miles to from her school, and for a living p.t. delivery job. How can I do this? THANKS and GREAT VIDEO, very well done and super easy to follow. Plus your attitude is awesome dude. Keep up the good helpful work.

  • Thank you so much for this! I can now do my wheel bearing myself without having to take it to a mechanic and get ripped off cause I'm a chick. Thank you! :)

  • Awesome video.

  • Scotty... Nice video!

I found my rear bearing to be bad on my 2002 Camry the other day. When I took the four bolts out and tried to remove the bearing the backing plate came with it. It appears as though the bearing and backing plate are stuck together with rust. Is there an easy way to separate them without removing the brake line and removing the whole thing?

  • @mrimover30 that's a once piece bearing assembly and hub you must replace as a unit. Scotty

  • @scottykilmer

I know the hub and bearing are one piece but the entire backing plate that the brakes and wheel cylinder sits on is stuck to the assembly itself. When I pull it away it all comes together including the attached brake line. Surely that cant be normal can it?

  • @mrimover30 It's rusted on, just whack the stupid thing off. Scotty

  • @scottykilmer

    Thank you :)

  • hey scotty does it make a difference if you have LSD on your car plus i remove the break disc and my hub would not spin around like yours did i had no room to remove the 4 bolts to get to the bearing assembly sorry if this doesn't make sense

  • @Ricky9111 I assume you mean ABS braking, they have rings that the sensor reads on the hub. remove the entire braking system if you can't access the bolts. Scotty

  • I've got a 98 Civic that badly needs a rear wheel bearing replaced, my car has ABS. Can I use a wheel bearing hub from a non-ABS car if I transfer the ABS sensor ring form the old hub to the new one?

  • @Infinitrium sure, if you can do it without breaking it. Scotty

  • Hey there Scotty, 1 quick question, don't you need to grease the new wheel bearings.

  • @creamsoda321 most sealed bearings these days come pre greased from the factory, such as these. Scotty

  • Hey Scotty. Thanks for the video. I am trying to replace the rear bearings on my 2002 Toyota Camry V6 and have tried numerous times to remove the hub by taking the 4 bolts off like you instructed however the hub is not budging. Any advice? Can't use a torch because ABS sensor wires are attached to back of assembly. Thanks.

  • @Realaw1 you must live in a rust area, once the bolts are removed, just whack it and it will eventually come out, perhaps spray a ton of WD 40 on it first. Scotty

  • @e420ric i had the sam exact issue with my mazda3 -- it was the front wheel bearings

  • Hey Scotty great video. I have an issue...My Honda Prelude makes a whooping sound (sounds like a helicopter blade) when making sharp right turns. My friend thinks its my wheel bearings but I think its my CV joint. any thoughts on this?

  • @e420ric Most likely wheel bearings. The reason it makes the sound whenever you turn is because you're placing more pressure on the wheel bearings whenever you turn. i.e., when you make a sharp right turn, its probably the left wheel bearing making noise. CV joints make more of a clicking noise when they go bad. Check to make sure which bearing is bad though, try to get your friend to help listen to where the noise is the loudest.

  • Thank you Scotty!!!! I'll do it myself and save some money!!! Looks easy!

  • Do you need to bleed the brakes to do this?

  • @MrFullerbuckyr no, not as long as you don't remove any brake lines and open em to the air. Scotty

  • Well done! I just changed the same way bearing on my car. This is what you can do yourself at home. Thanks!

  • i hope you don't really assembly a bearing like that..with a grinder and a hammel???oh my god..this type of reparation is for triycle maybe..oh shit...i understand why you have to change bearing often..bearing are more delicate than a wife..

    sorry for my english.

  • @iomemestessomorto I never change em twice, I know what I'm doing. You can do it correct many different ways, of course I have a machine press, but most people don't so I don't use it in my videos. Scotty

  • @scottykilmer yes but use a grinder and a hammel is the last thing i'm going to do..even if i'm on the road and i have nothing..

  • @iomemestessomorto to each his own. Scotty

  • you drive a pt cruiser?........

  • @DaBossk No, those are all cars I'm working on. I would not personally own Any chrysler product. Scotty

  • Nice video. I have a 3000gt VR-4 and seem to get a lot of noise from the left side of the car when turning/veering to the right. Does this sound like a wheel bearing?

  • @ulykethat Yes, classic signs of worn wheel bearing. Scotty

  • You forgot to take the gloves off before driving!

  • @vVeazel How do you know they're the same gloves? Scotty

  • RElaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaax please why u r mad at

  • When I search for bearings on various sites (ebay) in many cases the product

show is the actual hub. In some cases the cost of the entire hub is not much

different than the bearing. For my Kia Spectra5 I see entire hubs that are

cheaper than the $80 bearing (bearing $125 from Kia). I'm wondering if

replacing the hub is a better choice (less labor & mess).

It seems the bearing is the main thing to fail in the hub. Since I see more hubs

being sold are there situations that require a new hub?

  • @candleburning Yes, it's easier and less messy. Many times the whole unit costs little cause they make many in china these days. Scotty

  • when should i know to change to bearing on the car?

  • @djalex2fou when it makes roaring noises it's gone. Scotty

  • Scotty, can you just replace the whole hub assembly instead of the wheel bearing itself ?

  • @moose1328 In some makes you can buy the whole assembly, in some you can't. Scotty

  • hey scotty is it the same on a 99 nissan maxima or easier

  • @hp11208 pretty much the same. Scotty

  • I have a question, when I'm turning left, the right wheel makes a noise. I can't describe it, but if you put this after "com/" you can hear the problem. "watch?v=YX87prQjx_c" that is somewhat my problem, not the same car, but its like going over bumps on the road. I was wondering what the problem is and how much it would cost to fix. Thanks :)

  • @MadDogMeh check all the bushings and the strut mounts back there first. Scotty

  • Comment removed

  • I like your style =)

  • What if I dont have a puller

  • @DynamoDylan then rent or buy one, hitting them on and off with a hammer often breaks things. Scotty

  • good stuff, keep up the good work scotty

  • We just lunched only Monday and 10 cents is a very reasonable price if your video solves someones problem.

  • @txflatsfisher Yea, but like I said, very few people will pay. I've been involved in pay web site video set ups, and they all failed miserably. People want free, and advertisers pay guys like me who make videos that people like to watch and learn. That's just how the world is. People are cheap. Scotty

  • @Shitraver That's right, I'm a mechanic, proud of it. No fancy B.S. for me. Scotty

  • With 330,699 downloads you would have made $33,069 at DimeStand.

  • @txflatsfisher No, because that many people would not watch the video if it was not free. I've tried pay video sites, and no one watches them, everyone wants free. Scotty

  • @txflatsfisher What a laugh, I just checked out dimestand, and the top videos had thirty something views. Not too many people are going to pay to watch videos, and certainly never hundreds of thousands. Scotty

  • @scottykilmer

You my friend are awesome. thanks for the videos- you have helped me replace several things on my car.

  • Your good man. Cool Stuff!

  • ummmm if you want to protect your eyes dont wear glass optic glasses that can shatter... oh and you torx brakes...hope no one did this

  • ummmm if you want to protect your eyes dont wear glass optic glasses that can shatter...

  • @skateboard4life101 Mine are plastic high density.Scotty

  • i had one with rear drum brake on a toyota corolla 89.

is this gonna be the same procedure???

    thanks

  • @808diemar Yes, but sometimes in them you just have to buy the whole hub assembly with the bearing already in it, making it an easy job, but more expensive to buy parts. Scotty

  • should of went over how to properly grease them, alot of people make a mistake there that causes the bearing to go out after a few thousand miles.

  • @firechicken76 You know very little about modern cars. All modern bearing kits with those sealed bearings come with the grease already built in. Only dinosaur 40 year old cars use any other type these days. Scotty

  • @scottykilmer my 88 trans am isnt 40 yrs old and they didnt come with sealed bearing with grease in them.

  • @firechicken76 That's an old fashioned design, rear wheel drive. Almost every car these days have front wheel drive with sealed bearings. Scotty

  • @scottykilmer rear wheel drive is old fashioned? there are tons of modern rwd cars. mustang, camaro, challenger, charger, genesis, g8, gto, trans am, corvette.....i get what your saying though.

  • Looking to replace a wheel bearing on a 1977 chevy nova been told its a night mare can you simplfy? or send me in the right direction thanks.

  • @ity9000 Na, it's a lot easier than this. You just take the wheel off and remove the 4 bolts holding the axle in the rear end. Then use a slide hammer to get the axle shaft out. The bearing is on the end, and you either whack it off and hammer anew one on, or pay a machine shop to do that part for you, they have tools and presses that take a minute to do that. Scotty

  • scotty- can i do this without a press on a subaru that has to have the bearing seperated from the knuckle?

  • @02baruRS No, it's in too tight. Scotty

  • @scottykilmer Why didn't you use a jack stand to support the vehicle? Very dangerous relying on a hydraulic jack alone, especially one on rollers.

  • @4spdroadrunner I live dangerously. Watch my new video. How to properly jack up a car. I show how to do it correctly there, but I've been wrenching for 43 years and nothing has fallen down on me yet, I work on a flat cement surface so things don't move. Scotty

  • AMAZING VIDEOS MAN.. i gotta tell ya... Keep it up!! ur teaching alot of people. !!

  • I like a clean floor to work on but I guess you can just work in the rocks or right on the driveway. You are fast I must say. Good safety tips too.

  • Why does that car have a disk brake AND a drum brake?

  • @asdreww the drum brake is the emergency brake, a better, but more expensive, design. Scotty

  • man u should take ur dirty gloves before u drive that car ,but it is ur car is ok cuz ur a machanic

  • Good video bro 5 stars from me at least I van change my own breaks now lol

  • say i have rims that are 6 lug and i have 5 on my car can i replace the hub with a 6? thanks

  • @staytruestayfit IF you can find one that fits. NEVER use one of those adapter kits though, they are dangerous and often fly off at inopportune moments. Scotty

  • @scottykilmer thanks very much bro. now the mission is finding 1 i guess

  • this guy is awesome he makes it easy and simple

  • Hi, i have a quick question not that i expect you to know it, but you might know. I have a 2004 dodge intrepid 2.7l v6, yeah i know tipical piece of trach, but not so long ago it started making a grinding noise on the drivers side, which i belive is left, and the car dosent make it right away, i need to drive it for a while and then it starts making it, and more when i turn all the way, im guessing its the cv joint can you give me any ideas. Thank you.

  • @MegaMarkjenkins CV joints clack as you turn and accelerate. Grinding noises is more often brake pads or bearings. Scotty

  • @scottykilmer thank you because ive been taking it to all the mechanic's and they all say different things, but they are positive thats what it is, the funny thing, is that all the things they tell me exceed 1000$, one says transmission, one says engine gasket, and things like that. but then again i really dont know, but monday i will take it hopefully its nothing big, but thank you for your time, i really apreciate it.

  • u should never flat the studs down which they can damaged when you hammer the bearing onto the spindle lay it on a block of wood or somthing soft that wont mushroom the studs. but good video

  • @gbriff Man, I've been fixing em for 43 years and have never flattened anything. Scotty

  • Hi scotty, why do you cut the race off? and i don't see you replacing it with a new race, unless the new bearing assembly comes with a race on it?

    thanks!

  • @Kirbyjonpwn Of course the bearing assembly comes with both front and rear races built in. Scotty

  • @Kirbyjonpwn The race is on the bearing that he puts on!

  • scotty do mk1 ford focus all hav similar back hubs or do thy vary

  • @TheJobofo Normally you have to buy an entire hub/bearing assembly, they are easy to just bolt on, but cost tons more. Scotty

  • H Scottty i,I have a 88 Caprice,When i turn the Steering wheel all the way left at parking lot speeds it feels as if im runing over Huge rocks,What can this be?
