@rootbeerfilms1001 The exact mechanism is not important, look at any video or article describing how a matchlock works. You just need some way of holding a smoldering string and moving it into the flashpan when ready to fire.

Did you make your barrel? If not, where did you get it?

@MrBagginsEsq It is a 3/8" diameter aluminum tube. I smashed one end shut with JB weld in the seal, and drilled a flash hole. It's not such a good barrel and if you want a serious one without the risk of explosion use a steel tube that has no weld line and has a wall thickness of 1/8"+, look in the plumbing section of you local hardware store. Or you could get a steel rod and drill a barrel yourself but that takes a long time and you need a lathe.

@crapbag1997 It took me a while to learn this from reading online, I don't know where to send you for a good complete guide. Basicaly you just have to set up some kind of all glass distilling thing (or buy a retort like I eventually did) and pour in sulfuric acid and a nitrate salt, preferably ammonium nitrate. Then distill off the nitric acid.

distilling nitric acid to make NC is kinda pointless, you can just use the kno3/h2so4 solution to do your nitration.

@Northhunt Not sure, but pure enough deffinately. I would guess 95%+ pure. The main impurity is probably the Nitrogen Dioxide, which is helpful.

@robloxace It's pretty straight forward, you just need a strong smooth inside (no weld line) tube, a piece of wood to mount it to, some string that has been soaked in a kno3/water solution, a pivoting steel wire for the trigger, and some type of propellant.
