nice the worst is all the fun is over and you go home....did an 18 month 6000 mile trek which i still miss to this day even tho it had its moments.......thanks for posting this i live in the white mountain national forest nh you should check out the north east if you never did .......c ya
First of all AWESOME job!!!! you all looked like you we having fun! A few questions, were there any problems with bears? did you guys start in denver or the opposite end?
@trucker274 Haha, thanks. We started in Denver. Not the official start because most of the first segment was closed off so we did the Colorado Trail Foundation recommended re-route. I did not see one bear. There's speculation on what put holes in my tent. I am convinced it was a bear not 100% though. Bears in CO are not a problem unless you go out of your way to attract them.
@Hulio7271 It was amazing. The best was in camp above treeline for the sunset and sunrise. Actually I take that back the people I met was the best part of the entire trail.
@THECHADDER5 I have a few questions for you. How much water would go through between water points? I know they vary between each segments. How much water did you carry at any given time? Did you ever run out of water?
@CopeWTF I put a lot of faith in the pack guide from the Colorado Mountain Club. It told me where water was and if it was a seasonal stream or not.
In some areas I only filled up a 1L bottle because the next water source was in a couple miles, and or there were lots of streams from the run off ect. There are a few long stretches on the trail in which there are no "reliable" sources. The longest being 20 miles. For that I carried 5L of water and made it through in one day.
@CopeWTF I had the same concerns as you are about water before I left for the trail but there is plenty of water along the trail just make sure you know where the next source is.
When I hit a water source I filled up my water bladder which is 3L's. I kept two water bottles empty just to save on weight. In areas with less water and or closer to camp time I would then fill up the water bottles so I would have enough water to cook, drink, and enough until next water point.
Hey Chad, glad you completed the trail. We met in Segment 4. I'm Scott the one who was carrying the snow shoes and yo-yo'd with you guys for a couple of days. I had to get off at Kenosho Pass due to my bad blisters on June 28. I got back on the trail July 4 and finished July 28. It was nice to run across your video. Turns out my 6 days off allowed the snow to melt so I was able to pass through all the segments. I'm sorry to hear about the giardia man. I gambled at high altitudes.
Yes i do! sucks you had to lug those things for nothing ha. Glad to see you didnt let those blisters stop you though! Yea I actually think I got it in creede. Wierd I know but the days after creede is when it hit me. I think i checked out your slidshow from the first 6 seguments. Cant wait to see the rest of the pictures!
