Ann is BEAUTIFUL! Doesn't matter if she's big or small, she's made something of herself and created one of the greatest bands of all time. So to all of you haters, go fuck yourselves.
@wsox1998 Oh man I love Ann big small and in between, and for all you size zero nibbling men, there is nothing like a big beautiful woman, Mmmm mmm mmm
@plantosa1 god i hate to say it but the years they played videos nothing came close now we have this and i actually at one time put my finger in a piece of plastic turned dialed and made a phone call whats next
Heart is one of very few bands that can cover Led Zeppelin and sound just as good. Great performance and Ann's vocals are amazing. She is and always will be a great singer. It is time to get Heart into the rock and Roll Hall of Fame and I hope someday they are inducted. They deserve it.
Absolutely my favorite version of Heart's remake of this song. Especially the way Ann just rips more on the ending part of the song than she has ever when doing this song.
@beatlefan64 not sure,he hasn't been very active that i know of,the original men of heart are getting together for a gig and i didn't see michaels name on the poster.
Love Michael DeRosier on drums. As a drummer myself, I always thought he never got the kudos he deserved. This guy's power and ability to drive any band ranks right up there with the best of all time. Solid as a knockout punch to the face!
I'm also a drummer and couldn't agree more, Michael was amazing. Any idea what he's doing now? is he still playing? I know he was in the band called Alias back in the early 90's (if my memory is correct) they had a hit with a song called "More Than Words Can Say" and that was it!
FINALLY I've been thinking the same way, and call me crazy but I think DeRosier was a few top drummers that could cover Bonham well, just my opinion lol
OK- didn't Heart perform as "White Heart"--a Zeppelin tribute band--in Vancouver, BC Canada, prior to the release of Dreamboat Annie album, recorded in Vancouver--which featured Vancouver studio drummer Kat Hendricks and on bass Rene Wurst?? Not sure of the story resulting in the studio rhythm section but fantastic album!!!!!
@angieslindmusic They did go by White Heart at one point and Kat Hendricks was their drummer. As a matter of fact, Kat plays on several of the songs on Dreamboat Annie. DeRosier wasn't the official drummer until after the album was finished. I don't think they were ever officially a Zep tribute band, but did play quite a bit of LZ and was definitely influenced.
If you know anything about Heart, it's that they absolutely idolized Zeppelin. Ann is one of the few artists who can sing a Zeppelin song and not sound like they are trying too hard. She can actually do it justice. And Zeppelin overrated and Plant not a good singer? Give me a damn break - please. They are the best.
I agree. I always felt Ann was a little gun shy in her early covers of Zep even though Robert Plant always encouraged her to let it all out. It wasn't until Jon's death that Heart's RnR cover really took shape. See Chipi64's 1980 and lovesheart's Dortmund1982. Nancy discards the keyboards for her kickass rhythm guitar, Howard Leese "reveilles" the break, and Ann blasts down the Berlin Wall with those enormous pipes. I love Zep, I really do, but live ... it's gotta be Heart. It just does.
You might notice that Heart performs numbers created by Led Zeppelin, not the other way around. Zeppelin was the premire live concert band. I like Heart too, but there's a reason why Ann Wilson likes to sing Zeppelin.
Zeppelin is one of my fav's,I sing 5 in my pub duo,Robert Plant is admittedly Ann's fav male singer, that said I have to wonder if Zep lived up to their recordings when they played live?
Zeppelin was groundbreaking and the first to really get big with their sound. Robert's voice is a great instrument though.. he abused it, but it still hanging at 60, the O2 concert in London proved he still has it, Ann Wilson destroys on this cover, her improv is wicked,
is very good and easy to find any video of Led zppellin than a "Starway to heaven" with God on the guitar, the year of the video I do not recall, but if someone has it please upload it because it not only saw once.
there is a killer version of this live on Heart's Greatest HIts Live CD. Ann just wails and howls like you've never heard her, her vocals are stellar.
we all love our heroes!and yes john could compete today in this market!just like randy and others that had an untimely death!music must go on....BUT THE SONG REMAINS THE SAME! HAIL HAIL ROCK N ROLL!
Its funny because Led Zeppelin and Heart became good friends :). Ann often hung out with the band. Both liked each others styles. Both got heavy at times and both had good live acts. Both fed off each other at one point or the other. They covered Led Zeppelin. Well Led Zeppelin also did a song by Heart... Its heavy, sounds like a song they once did.. Maybe starts with BAR...? :).
there has never been a doubt, heart was only praising ledzep here. Anne and Nancy can rock with the best, even after 30+ years. Bless you, heart women.!!!
Ann and Nancy have always been very open about being huge fans of Led Zepplin... there is no need to compare the two bands. Heart still would have had all there huge hits even if they never covered a Led Zep song... Ann was definitely influenced by Plant's vocal style, but listen to the PIPES on this girl! She is so much more than another singer covering Zepplin! There are very few vocalists who can even stand in the same room with her!
Thanks for the memory -- Saw this live about the same time. After going through most of their material, they came out for their second encore and played Rock and Roll. Clear and hard driving -- great!
Is anyone keeping in mind that Roger and Jimmy Page are only 7-8 years apart in age? As far as playing live Roger is better because he plays cleaner, but Page will always be better for the simple fact that Page thought all the stuff up in the first place for Roger to copy and put his twist to it. Don't forget all the Mandolin, alternate tunings that BOTH Roger and Nancy used in the early days. Does anyone think there is ANY drummer past or present that sounds more like Bonham than Derosier?
finally someone who speaks the truth!!!!! I have been basically saying the exact same thing to alot ppl and they always rip on me saying "dude page is god no one is as good as him" um hello roger is the only person who could cover pages style!! and derosier in my opinion is definitely up to par with bonhams drumming style, and people say heart sucks? definitely not
i agree roger fisher needs some respect, this lead is good yes, but if you listen to it a couple times, it ain't all that clean, there are some flubs, he also tries to do too much in spots. and the amp noise after the drum solo... minor stuff, but a guitarist knows... compared to jimmy, dude, page is on another level.
Been a Heart fan for decades now. I wish the constant touring through out the years didn't cause Ann's vocals to get so raspy as it is today. This video shows Ann's voice as its best. Strong, clear and high.
John Paul Jones was the under-appreciated guy in Zep.
Heart's version of "Rock and Roll" on their original GH/Live album blows away the original. It was, by the way, included on the album as a tribute to Bonham.
how many instruments do each of the wilson sisters play? ann: guitar, flute, drums, bass, and keyboard -- nancy: guitar, bass, piano, mandolin, dobro, harmonica, lap steel, banjo -- and oh yeah, they both have amazing voices.....and neither of them took lessons for any of it! they are entirely ear trained. um, prodigies. hello.
they could cover any zeppelin song and it would still sound good i mean listen to battle evermore from them black dog and stairway they all sound amazing especially battle of evermore and stairway
i really doubt heart was the better band between them and led zeppelin, i really doubt zeppelin would ever cover barracuda, heart covers just about all of zeppelins discography(an exaggeration before someone flips out and goes "they only covered 6 songs!")
not saying hearts bad but they are not better than led zeppelin
yea zep could cover barracuda and songs like that but they cant cover dreamboat annie nada one crazy on you because of nancy's intro and even sing child sing so heart was definitely the better band between zeppelin because they could cover there songs easliy and make the sound al if exactly alike listen to the cover of battle of evermore and compare to zeppelins trust me it sounds better
