I don't understand what is so great about riding a wave on your stomach into a barrel that you already know is going to closeout. First of all, bodyboarding doesn't take any skill. And second of all, it's not even fun intentionally going into a barrel knowing that it's just going to closeout, and you are going to get tossed around like a ragdoll.

I'm now on the east coast and still surf but nothing can compare those waves.

@hockeyplayer6437 Blackball means no boards, of any kind. Surfing, bodyboarding, skim, SUP, whatever. Only body surfing is allowed during the day.

@markushalfmad Probably safety, mostly so the bodysurfers, can catch a wave without being at risk of being crushed all the time. It breaks in shallow water so it can be a very dangerous spot, no matter what you surf, so it helps to segregate the types of surfing done there at certain times. But when it's big, it can be a free-for-all.

Suprised it's in favor of bodysurfers! - 4 i myself am a bodysurfer - I live in Florianópolis, Brazil and here, as in many other places worldwide, ppl don't seem 2 care much about bodysurfers - once I almost got run over by a jet ski - even so it's a great place 4 surfers 2 be at

wt I most like about The Wedge is the dificulty - it's an "off road" kinda thing

@medievil283 if done right you should be able to push under and pop back up in calm water so if you want to learn without getting pounded practice without the waves first. weight towards the nose, push hard and duck down after your stick...you'll get it. try it with a smaller board first.

nice video. I have boarded the wedge once- similar conditions with a nice sloping wave. but I never bothered to cutback- when I saw an exit ramp I was out the back.I never have seen the point in ending up with the inside pounding. its gonna happen but you can at least minimize the times you go thru the cycle. and rolling around in the shorebreak mess with other bodies and a stray board or two is a sure way to get an injury or a pointed nose board up your ass.
