We don't have to spend more, a few people just have to make less and WTO needs to stop being unfair. Fair trade coffee is not that expensive when you contract directly with the growers, and if enough roasters do that then the market price will change naturally.
it's not that we have to pay more for our coffee, we are already paying enough for our coffee. those ppl depend on trading their cocoa beans for their economy and the workers are getting paid $1 per day for working 8 hard hrs. they are trading four cents per kilogram and one kilogram makes eight cups of coffee in NA which we pay two to three dollars for. IS IT NOT CLEAR ENOUGH THAT THOSE PPL ARE BEING TAKING ADVANTAGE OF??
'free market economics' are no such thing. The richest countries dictate the international trade rules by which the poor must abide, and guess who benefits. Would you classify this scenario as 'free trade'? Have you actually watched the film?
@ukredbeard no but i seen many documentaries one in particular about water as they control almost all african governments they imposed on them to "sell" their unilities this woman born 200M from the Gongo river had to pay half her crops earnings to the BA "WORLD BANK" or she was Not allowed to take water to water her crops then of course thise leexhes turn rund n said blacks are not able to govern themselfs the biggest signle loss of life since WW2 Gongo over 6M dead reported? Not on u r life
This man clearly misspoke when he said 'low price.' He meant wages, because THAT is the issue. As someone with a degree in Economics, I can tell you that wages NEVER adequately reflect their value, and this can be clearly demonstrated in these companies' balance sheets. If you're paying your workers less than $1/day, the massive amounts of profits reflect nominal wages that AREN'T being paid to workers. Pick up a economics book before you make stupid comments my friend.
'don't buy any coffee from Ethiopia' - Black Gold does not advocate a boycott of this kind. Perhaps we could debate what you meant in your comment on the Black Gold forum (please visit our site).
Watched this yesterday, shit pissed me off
Fuck the WTO for not giving Africans a voice

@D2daKProduction
You could also drop the 90% inflation tax on fossil fuels and the entire planet would be in a complete economic boom

I think he was saying that to buy Ethiopian coffee would be to aid the groups that control the prices... but that's probably not a good idea.

It's great that someone has finally made a movie about this trade so that the public can see for themselves what is REALLY happening out there.
Buy Fair Trade!
