  • Only difference in soundtrack is Donald's last remark before the iris out. Originally he said "aw nuts". Reportedly the Hay's Office forbade use of this phrase

  • @FantasiaMan they wanted the cartoon to match in with the new 1941 season of mickey mouse that is why its changed for clour wise

  • OLD DONALD HAS SHARP FEET

  • 3:37 HE IS TORTURING CLARABELL BUT IN EACH EPISODE LOOK AT THE DIFFERENT SHAPES CLARABELL TURNS INTO AND THE WAY SHES FLUNG INTO THE AIR ON EACH DIFFER

  • ON THE COLOUR VERSION DONALDS BEAK IS CURVED ON THE ORIGIONAL ITS STAIGHT AND ON THE ORIGIONAL DONALD MAKES A NOSE SHAPE WITH THE BEAK AT 2:10

  • Given that Warner Bros.' Daffy Duck had black feathers, one wonders if he had been concocted in part as the "reverse mirror image" of white-feathered Donald. Certainly that Daffy could actually be understood, pronounced lisp and all, was 180 degrees from Donald's squawk.

  • wow goofy has a tail back then amazing

  • Little Boy Blue, come blow your horn...

    HONNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNK!!!

Definitely the line of the show.

  • The black and white version still has the ASBESTOS curtain LOL!

  • Pause at early 8:07 its looks like Old donald and new Donald are looking at eachother. XD

  • @Disneysorcerer If you pause at 8:34 it looks like Old donald and new Donald hate each other.

  • @Joshlama Haha I see it, hilarious!

  • That's awesome to see how much had the animation and design of the most known Walt Disney characters developed during less than a decade and what changes made Walt Disney in his cartoons and in his animation style. I think that in the left part of the video is Donald Duck's 2nd appearance after The Wise Little Hen (part of Silly Symphonies series). Thank you very much for posting it on youtube ! The idea of synchronization of two similar cartoons for making a comparison is really great.

  • I guess this is considered one of the first ever remakes in history.

  • Clarabelle has breasts in the color version... weird.

  • 1934 oh shucks

    1941 oh phooey

  • the crowd in the 1934 is bigger then the 1941

  • @1234zizawordpress I'm not surprised. The 1934 one offered free ice cream lol

  • Considering he took multiple boxing glove shots about 8 bricks and other heavy objects to the head and sustained a pretty hefty beating and his entire reaction to the whole thing was :"ohh phooey" perhaps these kids might have reconsidered pissing Donald off.Never tick off somebody that obviously displays superhuman strength and a short tempter

  • all the expression mickey shows in the newer one is weird when comparing it to the b&w one.

  • They wanted to make a cartoon in 1939 of Mickey and his friends watching their old cartoons and commenting on it. The problem was, that anything made after Mickey went into color, might be still in theaters. And they couldn't show b/w cartoons, as that would look cheap. The solution? Remake the old cartoons. But Walt decided to stop the project (due to either a strike in 1941 or World War II) , and only Orphans' Benefit survived.

  • my guess is that at the time, there simply was nothing better available, and they had to do a new one to stay in the mind of people. - but, it could also be sentimentality, or the wish to actualize a past success - as you see, donald and mickey have changed appearance considerably since then. it's also possible that it is to serve as a demonstration how much technology has improved in 8 years.

  • @paniq303 There's actually a full explanation of why on Cartoon Brew now, it's really interesting to read

  • @MovieRatIan i was almost right then with the actualization stuff. :) nice article, thanks for the info :)

  • @paniq303 you're welcome :D

  • this is pretty cool i remember they did color remakes of Bob Clampetts' "Porky in Wacky Land" and "Scalp Trouble" Although they were not as good

  • they made it frame to frame? thats epic.

  • I was wondering when someone was going to do a comparison of this cartoon. I'm glad it was you, Mike. There's obviously a lot more of fluidity and better acting in the color version. The only thing I liked about the black and white version was Donald's Jimmy Durante impression. Ace Job Mike!
