  • Pretty awesome.

  • how accurate is it. i.e. +or- how many seconds will it go out in a month for example?

  • Absolutely good question.

  • @IpkisStanley

It is self calibrating. If it happens to run out of sync after a few months it will reset itself to the correct time. So it will never be more off then a few seconds measured over a year.

  • it are very very beutiful and expensive

  • great.. how to get this?

  • you're a genius...

  • Music used in the Video:

    Artists: Proem

    Song: Pinching Point

Worthwhile to listen the full album !

  • how is this functional?

  • It's a clock...

  • all the hands point in the right direction. If you can read a clock, you can tell the time. That's how it's functional.

  • Where can I buy one?

  • Good Clock! +5

  • where can i get a clock like that? and how much?

  • i want this clock. gimme gimme gimme. please. .... ok.. how much?

  • Wow ingenious!

  • COOL!! i want one!!

  • WHAT THE FUCK

  • This idea has already been done.

  • Yes, google "hand in hand clock" to see articles at Gizmoda, Yanko Design and other blogs.

  • Read my comments on page 1...we've been working on this for several years....

  • you should put something that says what time the clock is displaying.

  • do want

  • you sould actualy post what time it shows so people can figure out how to read it

    i figured it out ok

but it would just make it easyer

  • im used to the hour hand being smaller than the minute one..

  • ....appointment at 3:15, mister mayor.

  • omg i actually /watched that haha omg

  • As if clocks weren't hard enough to read already. And it looks like a spiders leg. But I like it.

  • They're not hard.....

It does look pretty cool though

  • It's a joke.

  • wow that is a cool clock

  • awsome

  • from biggest to smallest its hours mins secs

  • Notice how there is 3 sections. Starting from the centre (attached to the gear box) is the hour hand, the next section is the minute hand and the last one is the second hand.

  • Right between the second's hand and the gears :D

  • If you can't glance at a clock and tell what time it is, then it no longer serves it's purpose as a clock! This is just a piece of art that moves.

  • You can glance at it and tell the time...sure it takes a good half a minute the first try (Assuming I'm reading it correctly, a time marker at the bottom would have been nice)... but just like learning analog for the first time as a child, it takes practice. Practice not quite worth the strange...kind of ugly piece of art. Eh nvm i side with you.

  • Even better!

  • First hand is for hours, second for minutes and third for second. It does take long to tell what the time is but like wrist watches with no numbers, it just takes some imagination and time to get used to I think.

  • The semantic mix up on big hand little hand nomenclature is that one that is short (a little term) and fat (a big term) is called Big, and the one that is longer (a big term) yet thinner (smallness) is called the Little hand.

And generations were taught without realizing how confusing that might be to fresh young minds.

  • that is a really interesting clock, and not that hard to read...people if you use your head you can see the numbers, and it does tell time the normal way, just focus on the rear arm, or hour hand, works more like a sundile with the one arm for accurate times.

  • piece of arty farty shit

    use digital clocks you faags

  • Because you can't tell what time it is otherwise?

  • the coolest clock ive ever seen...

  • If you find this video interesting then I've got something you have to see! Trust me you won't be disappointed. Check out my videos and let me know what you think about them. If you don't you will regret it! Thanks!

  • SanderMulderCom writes in description: ...the pointers are still read as with any traditional clock.

Except the small hand is minutes and the big hand is hours... not like a traditional clock. Can you confirm this as I think some people including myself are getting a bit confused...

At first I was looking at it as: where the big hand meets the small (middle) hand, this is the center of a 'traditional' clock. But it's not!! It takes a bit of getting used to.

  • The way I see it, the gears are the center reference point for the hour hand, and the end of the hour hand is the center of the clock for the minute hand, and the end of the minute hand is the center for the second hand.

  • Well said! I never thought of it like that.

  • Sik! When's the digital version coming out??

  • Technically is 3 different arms still.

  • I disagree, meowmix. My arm has a bend in it, but it's still just one arm.

  • Anyway you cut it, it's an impressive piece. Wish I knew how much they were going for. Probably too much though...

  • It's cool, but is pretty ugly.

  • How is it hard to figure that out at all? I mean, unless you've never seen an analog clock before, everything there should be pretty obvious. You probably wouldn't get perfect time because of the lack of numbers/markings around it, which is the only problematic thing i could see.

  • I think I know what you're saying and if I'm right, you're wrong :-)

If you're saying it's big hand minutes, small hand hrs (like a conventional analogue clock), I think you're wrong. go to the site and look at the times under the 2 pictures

  • Would be nice to know what time it was at a few points of that video so we could understand how the hands were working - what time was it?

  • Looks like about 11:35 and 30 seconds at the end there.

  • Short hand is hours. Long hand is minutes. Closer to 7:50.

  • Nope, you got it the wrong way 'round. Conventional clocks are long hand mins, short hand hrs, but this clock is the opposite, short hand mins, long hand hrs. Therefore it IS 11.35-40ish.

Go to the website and read the times under the pictures.

Also look at the video at 20secs in. In fast motion, you'll see the small (middle) arm is moving... as a min hand would move. Not the big arm. Gets it?

SanderMulder! Wanna step in here and clear this up?

  • Ahh...right you are.

  • haha good taste in music. proem is excellent

  • best example of form> function. Cool if you are into that sort of post modern thing.

  • That is useless

  • Luck would have it that there are only 21 of these being made. To me they're a travesty. At least as far as practicality's sake is concerned.

  • Same with the Mona Lisa. Fucking wasted paint, coulda painted a barn with all that paint!

  • 11:36!!!

  • WANT!

  • I want one!

  • nice idea and mechanics..

the music is pleasant too, could it bee console?

  • Wow, that's totally impractical. It's a good thing there's so much rich hipster trash to eat that crap up, otherwise the creator would have no one to sell to.

  • to be fair, it is only impractical until you get used to the new visual format.

  • beautiful.

  • i like it, even better if it can be powered by just moving your wrist around. and then later you could coat the arm with an OLED

  • where would I buy one of these?

  • Can we get this in a watch please?

  • Do you realize how huge the face of your watch would have to be, or how tiny the individual hands?

  • This is very cool. I would like to see the gears covered with a similar metal (brushed aluminum/silver) enclosure. It would lend to the minimal design. Otherwise, bravo!

  • While I am in awe of the design, I'm also in awe of the music. Anyone know what it might be?

  • Probably Autechre

  • I know ;-).... and its not Autechre:

    Artists: Proem

    Song: Pinching Point

Worthwhile to listen the full album !

  • what time is it showing?

  • 11:39:17

  • Utterly UTTERLY FANTASTIC! I agree 100% with MEGAVOLKS!

    Respect!

  • Brilliantly constructed, but I have no idea how anyone would be able to tell the time. XD

  • My dads a clockmaker, and it actually one of the hardest things to do, this is extremely hard to make, respect please.

  • no entendí

  • wow that was boring

  • what is the point in saying this?

  • what is the point of you saying this?

  • you don't have to be negative. let's see something you've created.

  • nice

  • On this Continue Time clock, two out of the three pointers rotate around another pointer, instead of the central point on the clock face, as with traditional clocks. The resulting kinetic artwork, and fully functional clock, is continuously changing its shape during a full rotation of twelve hours.

Limited edition of 20 pieces + 1 artist proof.

While creating mesmerizing patterns on your wall the pointers are still read as with any traditional clock.

    This is Over-clocked. =/

  • Thanks, I read the additional Info provided on the right of the screen, as is always placed there if there is any, others may need to read it twice once up there, and again in the responses column though......',-)

  • got any footage of a full rotation?

  • inspired.

  • very nice

  • 11:40 Clock?

  • i think you right

  • very cool- but also very difficult to read seeing as it still operates by pointing to what would be a single dial.

  • SteamPunk? SUPER!

  • Whoa that's trippy as.

  • great design

  • It is a rather lovely concept (whoever's it was is irrelevant I feel), beautifully executed - although my own asthetic proclivities tend towards a more ornate scroll and tracery detailed movement fascia plate - but that's just my fondness for all things steam-punk I guess.

Is it able to acurately hold it's time, despite the mechanical stresses of fighting gravity in the second half of the hour and resisting it the first?

  • Pretty cool.

  • Awesome!

  • After noticing some negative comments on the internet, regarding similarities between my Continue Time clock and Johan Bisse Mattssons Hand in Hand flash animation I have chosen to respond:

I am quite convinced that the Continue Time concept is 'my idea'; if such a thing exists.

What I mean with this last phrase, is that it is of course impossible for me, or anyone else for that matter, to state that they came up with an idea that no one in history has ever thought of.

  • What I can, and will say is that when I came up with this concept, years and years ago, I was unaware of anyone else with similar ideas.

I have written a short timeline on the Continue time development process, which might be worth to consider for all that want to pass judgment on this matter:

    1. This idea came to me many years ago, and after a long shelving time ( because of the complexity and investments involved ) I have decided to actively pursue the concept since late 2004.

  • 2. I asked a Brazilian coder, to make a Flash animation for this idea in 2005. This animation has since then been extensively used for explaining the concept to all parties involved and also has been online (password protected that is) since then. This animation indeed looks remarkably similar to the hand-in-hand animation. We did not choose to show this animation on our website when we re-launched this idea past Friday, because by now we had a much better thing; a movie of the working prototype

  • 3. From 2005 I have been working with 2 commercial companies and 1 education institute trying to realize the idea.

    4. A relatively small group of trustees, like employees and interns of my company and the companies I have been working with ( plus Friends & Family of course) have been introduced or even working with this idea over the past years.

  • 5. This final version of the Continue Time ( as shown ) was started in 2008.

    6. It was originally to launch at Salone fair in Milan ( April 2009 ), and actually it was up in our gallery at Via Voghera for half an hour or so with public watching us fiddle it, before we had to remove it due to transport damages ( which made it malfunction badly ).

  • 7. Because of this intended launch there actually was a datasheet and a still image of the clock to be found on our website for almost a month; stating "soon more info". Our website is visited by many people on a daily basis.

    8. When we came back from Milan it turned out that the repairs needed where quite extensive, and we decided to remove this content to be able to properly launch the idea later ( which we did past Friday ).

  • Well, I hope this clears up matters for everyone. Now that I found out about the hand in hand concept I will contact Johan Bisse Mattsson about this whole thing personally.

With this thing spread all over the internet its impossible to check all comments and reply personally. Anyone who still wants to share his/her opinion can always mail me at the mail address to be found at my website.

  • They are not claiming to be first anywhere, but it looks like they are the first to actually produce a working prototype. The "Hand in hand" clock is just a concept sketch.

  • Actually, reading their website, to me it does sound like they're trying to claim the concept as their own. Sure they deserve credit for the stylish looks and craftsmanship, but the way he goes about not giving credit for the idea strikes me as a bit shady. The hand in hand clock has been featured in several blogs so I have a hard time believing he hasn't seen it.

  • Read my comment please.

  • Yeah this concept has already been done.

    Plagiarism is bad, mmkay

  • Nice implementation, but why are you passing this off as your own concept? This has been done before. Google Hand in Hand Clock. BAD FORM!

  • Please read below...
