Nowhere in the Bible do you find the teaching of icons or idols in a church nor of the adoration of Mary as 'mother of God'. Biblical christianity of the apostles doesn't teach 'priesthood'. There is much ritualism embedded in this religion that it is closer to catholicism which is a religion of heresy. Orthodox and catholicism are both non-apostolic and not Bible-based. In other words, they are counterfeit. The true followers of Christ flourished after His death and they are the real Christians which the RCC persecuted and killed thru-out the dark ages but God preserved many so the faith continues on to the present.

This same Orthodox Church created the Canon of Scriptures that the Protestants like yourself use. We would have no Bible, no Christmas, no Easter and no Christianity without Orthodox Christianity.

The doctrine of the Mother of God is totally acceptable because it is proving the incarnation of the Son of God manifested in the flesh. The whole reason why we venerate icons as well is because they are also proofs of the incarnation of Christ and they also teach us about the Faith. Icons are also there to help us worship God.

@deanosumo I'd recomend Diarmaid MacCulloch's History of Christianity. There's a documentary and a pretty hefty book. Well worth a look. Though it goes much wider than Orthodox Christianity it pays more attention to it than most histories of Christianity.

The vid says "roots of orthodox christianity" but it begins with a statement saying that it is the same christianity carried on by the apostles. I disagree. Nowhere in the Bible do you find the teaching of icons or idols in a church nor of the adoration of Mary as 'mother of God'. Biblical christianity of the apostles doesn't teach 'priesthood'. There is much ritualism embedded in this religion that it is closer to catholicism which is a religion of heresy. Orthodox and catholicism are both non-apostolic and not Bible-based. In other words, they are counterfeit. For one to catch a glimpse of true Christianity and it's progress and history thru the ages, one must search, study and learn the history of the Bible from it's original form and it's journey thru the ages to it's present day form and translation. The doctrine of the Mother of God is totally acceptable because it is proving the incarnation of the Son of God manifested in the flesh. The whole reason why we venerate icons as well is because they are also proofs of the incarnation of Christ and they also teach us about the Faith. Icons are also there to help us worship God.

If you question the existence of Jesus you might as well question the existence of any documented person of ancient history, such as Julius Caesar, Alexander the Great, etc. etc. Christianity is indeed an eastern religion, it's leadership hijacked by the Bishops of Rome with the spurious claim that the apostle Peter was the first Pope but there is certainly no documented evidence of this. The Greek language was not the only catalyst for propagating the Gospel. The Apostles went into all the world, not only toward the west. Thomas, historians generally agree, bore his holy witness in India (St. Thomas Mount, outside Chennai). His language was Aramaic, the Semitic tongue of Babylon, kept by Persia as a diplomatic-commercial language in dealings with eastern lands. He announced the resurrection in that language. His church lives on today, as does the Roman church, both Orthodox.

A nonsense: Most Near and Middle Eastern historians not Muslim. Term is the correct one for the passé Biblical Archaeology used by field pioneers, e.g. Albright, etc. who tried to use digs to prove bible historicity, which failed. Because even fiction employs real people and places, when a place name or person mentioned in the Bible is discovered, it proves nothing. Archaeology is a science, helping uncover and establish historical facts. Much prefer monkeys to uncritical thinking humans.

Ergo, while Old and New Testament characters are mentioned in the Koran, it doesn't make them real/historical. The Koran, a jumble of recollections, folklore and supposed utterances by Mohamed, wasn't written, like the Christ Cult works, until many decades after the death of its illiterate prophet, who didn't write a word of it, though who, unlike the fictional Jesus, was indeed a historical figure.

The mythological Christ is the personified Logos (itself a revised Wisdom, the consort of Yahweh)) of 1st century Alexandrian Jewish mystics. @deanosumo I'd recomend Diarmaid MacCulloch's History of Christianity. There's a documentary and a pretty hefty book. Well worth a look. Though it goes much wider than Orthodox Christianity it pays more attention to it than most histories of Christianity.
