I have never, ever, ever played a game with such a boring, idiotic battle system. It makes no sense, and i´ve attempted to play this game twice. But everytime I just want to break the discs and throw them out the window.

All videogames are about this days are graphics the better graphics the better is the game for new generations. I have to say i have enjoyed more nes and snes rpgs than modern ones.
In old rpg the story and music was the most important stuff, and now its only graphics.
Its sad how companies like square and capcom who use to make excellent games in the old days have become money and graphic whores. For me videogames have died basically.
This game is a huge disappointment, for me the Final Fantasy series ended when Square stopped being SQUARESOFT that means the last REAL Final Fantasy game was X. I bought this game and after 5 hours playing it I sold it and bought Assassin's Creed II, what a fucking wise decision.

Realy rather straightforward if you pay attention. The story is WAY less convoluted then 7 or 8

the shades and coke zero made me laugh, but i totally agree with the review. The thing i really missed was going into villages and unlocking new characters. This game gave the player all the characters right off the bat! it sucked!

There was nothing ever "hardcore" about any FF title. This one actually gives you a system that measures every single battle in the game and it gets hammered by every wanna be tube critic there is.

@j0watson its not that i like grinding to power thru the whole game at certain points in the game i like to lvl up my attacks weapons and magic. who cares about "stars" woohoo! i got a shiny star YAY theres nothing like getting your butt kicked by a certain boss only to find out u need to lvl up a lil bit and then come back at it with better limit breaks and oh say BOLT 2 ICE 2 materia maybe even BOLT 3 ICE 3 and again unlocking better limit breaks then going back and kicking that boss's butt
Its not about completion, it is about numbers: getting 5 stars on every mission. You could always grind in every FF in the series to date in order to power through the story.
The game is about mechanics and how the equipment/paradigms/roles/actions play out over time that matters. You want to walk around for 65 hours go play Skyrim.
Its a trend in this generation to dumb everything down ! Every single game series that was amazing on ps1 and ps2 became total ass in this generation just because games are not made for gamers anymore. I remember struggling in the older Final Fantasy games in quite many sections of the games losing to bosses several times. i dont honestly understand how people cannot see what a joke FF13 is, its nothing like Final Fantasy used to be, its like a super super simplified version, with shiny graphics
Anything > FF XIII series...I wasnt the biggest fan of FFX because it removed worldmap and controllable airships and it was somewhat more linear feeling but now i wish the new ones were atleast like X rather than XIII...
I got no gripe with the fighting system or anything like that. My gripe is that the world is fucking uninteresting, the older games had like million different areas to explore with interesting different details, it had towns, people to talk to, inn's, shops, actually hard fights and a good fighting system, you could find optional summons in secret areas of the games, the music was thousands of times better, card-game system. FF13 is horrible and not worth anyones money who wants an amazing game.
The battle system is simple (takes me 5min to explain), all you do is press L1 and X (I'll never played a FF game before), its plays itself (I'm not done yet)!
oh yeah also wanted to mention another gripe i had with final fantasy 13 was the lvling system
and party setups i hated the fact that you couldent grind your lvls up. in final fantasy 13 because the next stage lvl of the Crystarium was locked untill u complete the chapter that bugged me a lil.that and for more then half the game you couldent pick which party members you wanted to use. and limit breaks.... ^^ wow deja vue limit breaks it was lacking those too

8 prolly being my favorite. for me final fantasy 13 did not have a rpg feel too it. its not because it lacks nostalgia its because it lacks those CORE rpg elements. imo i think square-enix could have done way more with it

Alright, the truth behind why people hate Final Fantasy XIII so much is because people simply dislike change. XIII is unlike any Final Fantasy game ever made, and just because of that, people are going to hate it. Also, because it is new. It will never measure up to older games because it lacks nostalgia. Fans translate simple things like that into "it sucks", others pick up on that hate, and go into the game with a very negative outlook. Now this game has a ton of unwarranted hatred. Simple.

The soundtrack was wow, the most dull unenthusiastic music (if you can call it that) I have ever heard in a final fantasy game. @pissed7off i've played the demo for ff13-2, and i really liked it lots more exploration more side quests, more mini games, it has puzzles in the paradox solving....it keeps the same battle system but it adds monsters that each have their own speciality like lightning/ravanger, or blizzard/ravanger, or medic, or sabatouer... it's gets kind of interesting plus each monster has their own limit break.... so it's kinda interesting...

Here's a rundown for ya - Move 7 feet, fight, tap x a couple times, move 4 feet, fight, tap X, move 4 feet - 30 minute fucking cutscene, bake a fuckin cake while u wait. come back, so on.

Very nice video! Sad as it is, FFXIII is a complete dissapointment and I don't get why SE decide to make things simpler and watered down despite the capabilities of modern consoles. FF is no longer a standard bearer when it comes to RPGs. Give me Dragon Age Origins or Neverwinter Nights any day.

Played Final Fantasy 12.. it was my first FF and that was a real RPG, towns freedom, able to move in combat.. I bought FF13 because i expected it to be the same only bettr graffics and new story, perhaps better gameplay to.

Fucking Faggots claiming X was good. It was horrible, horrible I tell you! Walking in a straight line through empty landscapes with over 100 variations of the same monster, damn that game. No, FFIX was the best, because of the epic fairytale like atmosfere. Then comes FF8, despite having horrible gameplay, was the most compelling story because of all the irony, vicious circles and subtile suggestions, a puzzle about a cool job after a cool university, But Final Fantasy Versus will rule all.
@GamerAnas I agree with you!!! FFX was amazing in so many ways... One thing I loved with it was the party system, because I love the Pokémon games and it's pretty familiar where you can switch them out in battle etc.
FF13 is just a decent rpg and gets pretty booooring after a while and it has no towns, too linear etc.. It scores 4.5 out of 10 from me.

Personally i didn't like the battle system at all, but i think the storyline of the game was good along with the soundtrack. The mistake was that they focused so much on graphic design that they threw in a shit battle system and make the game extremely linear.

I've played 4,5 (very briefly...), 7, 10, 10-2 and 12 and a bit of 13, but I didn't like how you can't randomly wander about anymore. I like 10 because of the way you fought, and how it would suddenly be a battle, and that you could go for a wander, I also liked 12 because I spent around 5-10 hours at the start of the game just wandering... which was cool for me (I've completed most of the above mentioned) but 13 didn't give me that, sadly. I like RPGs where there is lots of places to explore.

when it comes to graphics 13 has got it, i dont think anyone could argue against that, but people have said "graphics don't make a game" now I believe them. The battle system and the no towns and side quests really got to me. I did however quite liked some of the characters and the story had its good moments. I hope they go way Old school with 15, Fuck any HD remakes of any of the games, just make 15 a proper Final fantasy game
@MrPopTarted Have you played any of the other final fantasy games? 13 compared to them is a joke... and in 13 you dont walk "around" the town, you walk through it without being able to return. Ok there are some side quests towards the end of the game but its just not the same, dont get me wrong, the game isn't the worse game on earth, you can still have fun playing it, i would just like to see the next one resemble more like the old FF.

granted ff12 had the gambit system and you could leave it go in a battle but for those of us who are veteransto the searis this is crap. to the matera system in ff7 to the junkson system in ff8 you had to plan what u where going to do. hack in ff9 u had to plan what u did because u had to chose what equment u used because of the abillatys. to add to what he siad about ff13 the christereum is crap i mean the sphere grid was better & i hate the sphere grid.

exploration is a large part of rpgs, and ffxiii has virtually none of it
i dont care if a game is linear, almost every rpg is linear, but most give you freedom to do a lot of side stuff and just mess around before you continue with the plot.
the story is also about 90% filler. you get a lot of plot in the first few hours, then you get a lot of filler, and then you fight the final boss.
its a subpar game by general rpgs standards, but by final fantasy standards its garbage.
@anewfuture The world opens up a bit near the end, along w/ side quests. I guess the story comes to more of a personal opinion than other factors, Im just sayin. I thought Enix did good on doing something different, since thats what everything needs *cough*callofduty*cough*

Its not about completion, it is about numbers: getting 5 stars on every mission. You could always grind in every FF in the series to date in order to power through the story.
The game is about mechanics and how the equipment/paradigms/roles/actions play out over time that matters. You want to walk around for 65 hours go play Skyrim.

Its a trend in this generation to dumb everything down ! Every single game series that was amazing on ps1 and ps2 became total ass in this generation just because games are not made for gamers anymore. I got no gripe with the fighting system or anything like that. My gripe is that the world is fucking uninteresting, the older games had like million different areas to explore with interesting different details, it had towns, people to talk to, inn's, shops, actually hard fights and a good fighting system, you could find optional summons in secret areas of the games, the music was thousands of times better, card-game system. FF13 is horrible and not worth anyones money who wants an amazing game.

oh yeah also wanted to mention another gripe i had with final fantasy 13 was the lvling system
and party setups i hated the fact that you couldent grind your lvls up. in final fantasy 13 because the next stage lvl of the Crystarium was locked untill u complete the chapter that bugged me a lil.that and for more then half the game you couldent pick which party members you wanted to use. and limit breaks.... ^^ wow deja vue limit breaks it was lacking those too

Alright, the truth behind why people hate Final Fantasy XIII so much is because people simply dislike change. XIII is unlike any Final Fantasy game ever made, and just because of that, people are going to hate it. Also, because it is new. It will never measure up to older games because it lacks nostalgia. @pissed7off i've played the demo for ff13-2, and i really liked it lots more exploration more side quests, more mini games, it has puzzles in the paradox solving....it keeps the same battle system but it adds monsters that each have their own speciality like lightning/ravanger, or blizzard/ravanger, or medic, or sabatouer... it's gets kind of interesting plus each monster has their own limit break.... so it's kinda interesting...

I completely agree with this guy. Bought FF13 when it came out, played FF7 and FFX years before (wasnt keen on 8 and 9, 12 was "meh") Only game I ever took back. And i REALLY tried to enjoy it but it just wasn't doin it for me. And u use 3 buttons and thats it. For anyone who is thinking bout gettin it - DON'T. Here's a rundown for ya - Move 7 feet, fight, tap x a couple times, move 4 feet, fight, tap X, move 4 feet - 30 minute fucking cutscene, bake a fuckin cake while u wait. come back, so on.

No, FFIX was the best, because of the epic fairytale like atmosfere. Then comes FF8, despite having horrible gameplay, was the most compelling story because of all the irony, vicious circles and subtile suggestions, a puzzle about a cool job after a cool university, But Final Fantasy Versus will rule all.

@GamerAnas I agree with you!!! FFX was amazing in so many ways... One thing I loved with it was the party system, because I love the Pokémon games and it's pretty familiar where you can switch them out in battle etc.
FF13 is just a decent rpg and gets pretty booooring after a while and it has no towns, too linear etc.. It scores 4.5 out of 10 from me.
btw. Are you getting the HD-remastered version for PS3 or the PS Vita this summer? :D

Personally i didn't like the battle system at all, but i think the storyline of the game was good along with the soundtrack. The mistake was that they focused so much on graphic design that they threw in a shit battle system and make the game extremely linear.

I've played 4,5 (very briefly...), 7, 10, 10-2 and 12 and a bit of 13, but I didn't like how you can't randomly wander about anymore. I like 10 because of the way you fought, and how it would suddenly be a battle, and that you could go for a wander, I also liked 12 because I spent around 5-10 hours at the start of the game just wandering... which was cool for me (I've completed most of the above mentioned) but 13 didn't give me that, sadly. I like RPGs where there is lots of places to explore.

@legio96 And Some people hate it for how easy it is and how lackluster the story has become. For you/fans to silence us who disagree is only encouraging others to and actual haters to hate. The storyline was a cut up mess and the battle system is basically a windows task program. That don't play argument is so trite, why can't those of us who actually value well thoughtout stories force the lazy devs to work harder, oh there are more games not just in SE that people argue over.

when it comes to graphics 13 has got it, i dont think anyone could argue against that, but people have said "graphics don't make a game" now I believe them. The battle system and the no towns and side quests really got to me. I did however quite liked some of the characters and the story had its good moments. I hope they go way Old school with 15, Fuck any HD remakes of any of the games, just make 15 a proper Final fantasy game

@Pr0jectSound There are side quests and towns...64 side quests and the towns aren't exactly like before, but you can walk around and talk to people.

@MrPopTarted Have you played any of the other final fantasy games? 13 compared to them is a joke... and in 13 you dont walk "around" the town, you walk through it without being able to return. Ok there are some side quests towards the end of the game but its just not the same, dont get me wrong, the game isn't the worse game on earth, you can still have fun playing it, i would just like to see the next one resemble more like the old FF.

@Pr0jectSound Well I 100% this game and it took around 70hrs, which I enjoyed very much. Final Fantasy XIII-2 is confirmed to be way less linear and have towns and stuff like old times.

granted ff12 had the gambit system and you could leave it go in a battle but for those of us who are veteransto the searis this is crap. to the matera system in ff7 to the junkson system in ff8 you had to plan what u where going to do. hack in ff9 u had to plan what u did because u had to chose what equment u used because of the abillatys. to add to what he siad about ff13 the christereum is crap i mean the sphere grid was better & i hate the sphere grid.

exploration is a large part of rpgs, and ffxiii has virtually none of it
i dont care if a game is linear, almost every rpg is linear, but most give you freedom to do a lot of side stuff and just mess around before you continue with the plot.
the story is also about 90% filler. you get a lot of plot in the first few hours, then you get a lot of filler, and then you fight the final boss.
its a subpar game by general rpgs standards, but by final fantasy standards its garbage.

@anewfuture The world opens up a bit near the end, along w/ side quests. I guess the story comes to more of a personal opinion than other factors, Im just sayin. I thought Enix did good on doing something different, since thats what everything needs *cough*callofduty*cough*
