Whenever I hear Jazz I think of CBC radio and my time in the north, pre Serius Radio (satelite), and at the same time I think of Randy Carney (Bachman). CBC Jazz is sewn/sown into Randy's heart, no doubt. What a great Canadian musician he is!
Yes and he just passed away earlier this year from cancer. It was cancer that blinded him when he was a young boy. Great talent, wonderful human and an all round huge loss for the world...
It was amigo - a great time. Nice hooking up with you however brief in Alexandria Virginia. I understand you were at the New Jersey July 4th show too - but of course I couldn't see you...where were you positioned from my side of the stage?
Yes Mick, we made it to the Cooper River show, I even scored some tee shirts that I couldn't find on Randy's site. We were sitting on Colin's side of the stage, near the dude that looked like Tommy Chong. HE was hard to miss. It was a sea of "humanity" I wonder if the video feed from the show will be available, I guess I have some checking to do. Also realized I spelled Callianne wrong, sorry Calli.
The musicians on Randy's album Jazzthing II are Randy Bachman, Duke Robillard, Jay Geils and Gerry Beaudoin - Guitar, Gordon Grottenthaler - Drums, John Turner - Bass
Randy Bachman is such a delight. My absolute favorite thing he has ever done is the volume swells on his Gretsch electric in the BTO song "Lookin' Out For #1. That was it, man. But he's always played well...it all fits like a glove.
I loved BTO when I was a teen growing up listening to Randy's stuff. GREAT STUFF! The only regret I have about what they did is that Randy was far greater a guitar player than he actually was with BTO. HE'S A GREAT PLAYER! This 'jazzthing' proves it even more. Man this guy's versatile. THIS IS A WONDERFUL RECORDING. Randy - you are incredible.
Randy Bachman is a great guitar player!! The 70's would not the same without BTO and Bachman's performances!! About the jazzthing, listen Blue Collar and Look for #1!!!

Johnny "Guitar" Watson recorded this song back in the '50's I think. Good tune.
