I find this hard to believe... my friend's 330awhp EVO (intake, full turboback, cams and a tune) walks all over my brother's SMG E46 M3 (intake, catback, and a tune). We've ran from a stop, 30-80mph and 60-120mph, and everywhere the EVO beats the M3. Is the EVO better than the M3? Depends: the fit-n-finish on the M is amazing, the EVO is great w/ a larger backseat w/ 4drs, the AWD makes the EVO better (IMO) in the snow, the BMW is more stable at higher speeds, the BMW has more luxury interior
@tastings4life M3 has a 4.0 litre engine for christ's sake. it's obvious it's twice the size of the engine in the evo (although equipped with a turbo) bhp ratings are around 420bhp to 296bhp in fact... try racing the nissan gtr with any bmw you like around a track... that's a more evenly matched race then.

It's much less modded and it walks you, plus it's a suto SMG M3. But this is true I have a 2003 M3 manual with a complete Supersprint Header/Exhaust system and a K&N intake, and it does beat on EVO's and Sti's on the roll no problems, even when some are quite modded.
That sounds like a very stock evo pushing stock numbers around 260-280ps. That BMW is probably around 300-330ps. The Beamer has more balls unfortunately. So No contest.

Something doesnt add up, i know that the evos loose alot of drive train since they are AWD but a simple bolt-on e46 m3 seems to dyno close to 300whp if not a smich more. latest bmw m3 has a 4.0 litre engine with 420bhp as compared to the latest evo's 2.0 litre 296bhp engine! there's a factory specification which lets out 360bhp for this same evo engine, so for half the size of the bmw, guess which one is better...
try modding both engines, evo engines are known to let out 1000bhp without a twitch. don't know much bout bmw's, but they have a bit of a fault history, esp when modding seriously.

1) The 4B11T in Evo X is a 2.0L inline-4 engine with obviously 4 cylinders. The S65B40 in the E9x M3 is a 4.0L V8l. It has twice the number of cylinders? Real fair comparison? Compare 4B11T to K20/K24 engines from Honda would be a real good comparison.
2) If the 4B11T is really better than the S65B40 in terms of engineering, International Engine of the Year awards would have acknowledge this. And with that, so would have the world. Keep in mind my friend, the M3 has been a notoriously famous car in the automotive industry for its engineering success and its inherent 'power' from some of the world's best engineered engines, including the S54 from previous E46 M3.
3) Without a twitch? LOL maybe you should read ALL journals for modding ALL cars. They always encounter problems. To draw any 'extra' power will ALWAYS elevate stress on any engine.

Umm that last statement couldn't be more wrong. M cars are about Extracting the most power out of each liter on an engine. And factory tune doesn't rely on forced induction, they make 100hp per/L on natural aspiration.
Your right these are two cars are completely different. M3's are reliable daily drivers even when you modify them and evo's are fun track toys and have horrible reliability. They also miss that sensation known as torque, but are easier to tune for high hp because of the turbo.

If your talking about torque it needn't be mentioned my Evo goes 0-60 3.4s without Nitrous Oxide and my 3Ltr M3 does 0-60 in 4s? Hahh, torque is good for one thing puling a trailer.
They pull low 3's 0-60 by launch at redline. If you do that enough times some evo owners end up replacing there stock clutches after 5K miles.
Put both cars in first and do a roll from 5kmh and see who wins. Evo falls back, then evo hits boost and comes alive. I don't need to drive both cars to understand simple physics.
Torque is what pushes you forward and HP is what your able to do with it.

Fuck yes!!! I have had 2 clutches since buying it and about uhmmmm 10-11 sets of tyres in 24,000 miles always the inner side that wears! Also I loose an average 10-30 bph per 1k. I replaced my stock turbo, manifolds and induction to reduce the lag, but all I noticed instead of the 8 mpg I used 2 get, is now about 6 mpg. That is the one thing I hate about my EVO the Lag! without bout my EVO is faster than all the M's I have raced on track days, but it tends to sleep before 3/4 revs damned turbo!
Also I apologize for my use of language! I just get frustrated with EVO drivers! they drive standard EVO's and think they are the DON! they fucking ARE NOT!!!! these kids piss me off! with there little 200+ blow boxes! STOP POSTING VIDEOS OF SHITE!!!!! EVO's!!!!!!! Makes me insane!
Yeah they make great track cars making good high end power which is where you need it. but other than that I find the lack of low end power annoying. they are generally high maintenance cars which require lots of money to invest in repairs. It sounds to me like the car needs an alignment. If you lowered the car at all it messes with the camber angle which is fine but if you run them on the streets you end up eating tires. the clutches are mushy so they can reduces driveline damage
but if you put in a stiffer clutch you end up blowing your drivetrain. Its mistu's way of making it reliable HAH. Evo's have there own sense of power the way the boost hits is incredible. personally if I were to buy a car to modify it around 400hp I'd jump for a 335i. the twin turbo setup is easly capable of 400hp and it handles the power very well and gives you amazing low end torque. its a different nish it depends on what you are looking for. I'd jump for a bmw giving you balanced performance

BMW M3 02' reg, your looking at a 5.2secs 0-60, top speed 155mph limited. Evo 8 even the 260 model is stated to do 0-60 in 4.4secs, with the top model FQ-400 doing 0-60 in 3.6secs and top speed of 175mph. So unless they de-moded this evo 8 i don't get how the BMW won, not hating on the M3 its just this can't be right.

The s54b32 engine produces 333 hp @ the crank in US spec m3's from a 3.2 liter, ten less than Euro spec. engines due to the extra cat. So, roughly 100 bhp & some change per liter naturally aspirated; I'm sure the EVO has a turbo if it's only a 2.0 liter putting out 300 bhp, but correct me if I'm wrong.

It's much less modded and it walks you, plus it's a suto SMG M3. But this is true I have a 2003 M3 manual with a complete Supersprint Header/Exhaust system and a K&N intake, and it does beat on EVO's and Sti's on the roll no problems, even when some are quite modded.

That sounds like a very stock evo pushing stock numbers around 260-280ps. That BMW is probably around 300-330ps. The Beamer has more balls unfortunately. So No contest.

WOw that m3 is beast...but i would really wanna know how much whp that evo was pushing. Something doesnt add up, i know that the evos loose alot of drive train since they are AWD but a simple bolt-on e46 m3 seems to dyno close to 300whp if not a smich more. Basic tuned evos are pushing 330whp+ and it is a turboed car. So the power it generates should be even greater once it catches full boost. Weight isnt too far apart to make an advantage on either car...unless the evo dude cant drive?

latest bmw m3 has a 4.0 litre engine with 420bhp as compared to the latest evo's 2.0 litre 296bhp engine! there's a factory specification which lets out 360bhp for this same evo engine, so for half the size of the bmw, guess which one is better...
try modding both engines, evo engines are known to let out 1000bhp without a twitch. don't know much bout bmw's, but they have a bit of a fault history, esp when modding seriously.

1) The 4B11T in Evo X is a 2.0L inline-4 engine with obviously 4 cylinders. The S65B40 in the E9x M3 is a 4.0L V8l. It has twice the number of cylinders? Real fair comparison? Compare 4B11T to K20/K24 engines from Honda would be a real good comparison.

Like krapster757 said, TazaM3 is one among many for E46 M3s. Their are plenty of more that are both supercharged and Turbocharged. Horsepower Freaks is a huge M3 tuning company.

but if u are tryin to lay fault with the Evo, well you're going wrong my friend. for a start, the M3 and Evo are two very different cars. The M3 is mainly intended as a touring car, while the Evo is a rally car. So that brings us back to my main point, these two cars cannot be compared.
For the tuning thing, the Japanese are among the most well known in the business.

Umm that last statement couldn't be more wrong. M cars are about Extracting the most power out of each liter on an engine. And factory tune doesn't rely on forced induction, they make 100hp per/L on natural aspiration.
Your right these are two cars are completely different. M3's are reliable daily drivers even when you modify them and evo's are fun track toys and have horrible reliability. They also miss that sensation known as torque, but are easier to tune for high hp because of the turbo.

They pull low 3's 0-60 by launch at redline. If you do that enough times some evo owners end up replacing there stock clutches after 5K miles.
Put both cars in first and do a roll from 5kmh and see who wins. Evo falls back, then evo hits boost and comes alive. I don't need to drive both cars to understand simple physics.
Torque is what pushes you forward and HP is what your able to do with it.
Thats Basic auto theory 101.
You obviously don't mechanically understand your own cars.

Fuck yes!!! I have had 2 clutches since buying it and about uhmmmm 10-11 sets of tyres in 24,000 miles always the inner side that wears! Also I loose an average 10-30 bph per 1k. I replaced my stock turbo, manifolds and induction to reduce the lag, but all I noticed instead of the 8 mpg I used 2 get, is now about 6 mpg. That is the one thing I hate about my EVO the Lag! without bout my EVO is faster than all the M's I have raced on track days, but it tends to sleep before 3/4 revs damned turbo!

Yeah they make great track cars making good high end power which is where you need it. but other than that I find the lack of low end power annoying. they are generally high maintenance cars which require lots of money to invest in repairs. It sounds to me like the car needs an alignment. If you lowered the car at all it messes with the camber angle which is fine but if you run them on the streets you end up eating tires. the clutches are mushy so they can reduces driveline damage

but if you put in a stiffer clutch you end up blowing your drivetrain. Its mistu's way of making it reliable HAH. Evo's have there own sense of power the way the boost hits is incredible. personally if I were to buy a car to modify it around 400hp I'd jump for a 335i. the twin turbo setup is easly capable of 400hp and it handles the power very well and gives you amazing low end torque. its a different nish it depends on what you are looking for. I'd jump for a bmw giving you balanced performance

BMW M3 02' reg, your looking at a 5.2secs 0-60, top speed 155mph limited. Evo 8 even the 260 model is stated to do 0-60 in 4.4secs, with the top model FQ-400 doing 0-60 in 3.6secs and top speed of 175mph. So unless they de-moded this evo 8 i don't get how the BMW won, not hating on the M3 its just this can't be right.

The s54b32 engine produces 333 hp @ the crank in US spec m3's from a 3.2 liter, ten less than Euro spec. engines due to the extra cat. So, roughly 100 bhp & some change per liter naturally aspirated; I'm sure the EVO has a turbo if it's only a 2.0 liter putting out 300 bhp, but correct me if I'm wrong.
