I am really ashamed of my hindu brothers that nobody know the actual reason for why we don't eat beef. In hinduism we consider cow as "GOU MATA" or mother cow.

Since we worship it, we would never starve the cows and make them thin. We consider them sacred and we abide what we believe. As for the cows being thin, its possible that the cows have a very good metabolism and hence are thin or its too hot and hence they sweat it out. Once again this is a joke if you missed it.

People will be surprised that Hindus in some part of our country do eat beef like Kerala and even Bengal. Meat was shunned from Hindu mainstream religion after advent of Jainism and Buddhism. Meat abhorrence is more strictly practiced in Northern India which was more under influence of Jainism and Buddhism until Hinduism revival By Shree Shankracharya. Ved of Hinduism had all about animal sacrifices, which thankfully was removed as Buddhism and Jainism came into being.

Its simple for me as a hindu, i have always repected cow. Cow is seen as our mother as it represents motherhood and so on. Great comment... The religion name is Sanatan Dharam. Hindu name comes from ther Rever Sindu . The ancient Persian king Darious 1 extended his empire (517 BC) up to the border of Indian subcontinent. Due to linguistic barrier, they cud not pronounce letter S correctly and mispronounced it as a H. Thus from the ancient Persian the word SINDHU becomes HINDU. The people who live in India, whether Muslim and Christian all are HINDU. Word Hindu is purely Secular word.
