I really specialize in vintage guitar synths. You should check out the v-guitar forum. Google v-guitar forum. I contribute there, and there are lots of folks who have extensive knowledge of the various Roland guitar synths.
Hello Wayne! great demo, sounds very close to the origina.I have a question for you: I play only nylon string guitar, and I am considering purchasing a godin acs and a roland GR 55 or VG 99. could these soundsbe achieved with the VG99 as well? what is essentially different between these models? also does the ACS track well? I saw you posted some demos with it and I would really appriciate your response.
The GR-55 does some things the VG-99 does not, and the VG-99 also has some capabilities well beyond the GR-55. I would suggest you join the V-guitar forum, there is a wealth of information there to answer your questions. In general, I prefer the magnetic pickups, though the piezo systems are very popular. Again, there is a lengthy discussion on the pros and cons of these system at the v-guitar forum. Good luck!
thanks wayne appreciate your reply as i am sure u are busy. keep up the good work, i have signed up for your page as i consider u a valuable source. always good to have good musicians out there, and with information that is of value to many. kerry
anyone out there have a gr55 and know settings on how to get pats guitar sound?someone said the 335 or the l5 guitar, this is my first time with a guitar synth, the gr300 tweak is really good. i wrote wayne a email but no response, any help out there would be appreciated, such as parameter settings. KERRY LAS VEGAS
Sorry you did not get my earlier response! It's hard to nail down Pat's electric sound. While he basically played the same guitar for years, the ES-175, he later switched to his Ibanez signature guitar. While live his use of effects and amps has been fairly consistent, his recorded sound is based on a combination of direct recording, amping, and studio efx. Unlike the GR-300, it's almost impossible to recommend one setting. To recreate the general sound of a jazz box guitar, I use the L4 setting.
Is the first part (intro) played via GR300 patch? If yes are the settings the same like you very nice explained on this video? Or is it GR500 patch but with hexa fuzz (DIST) only settings? I try emulate it but my guitar in this part are very loud on GR300 patch. Thx for tutorials.
@atambourineman yes you can specifie two sounds + modelized sound and valid them 3 string by string or not, .... you can also affect an intervall of fourth to the played sound for a while: it sounds like the bridge of "in the mood" from glenn miller, it is fantastic after a few hours passed to try
This really is Rocket science... I always thought great music comes from the heart not from 'modeling technology' and 'input dials' !!! If this is the future of music production - you can keep it. :(
The rocket science part is really easy. Just set the parameters in your synth once, and you are done. Programming a guitar synth does not require a decade of training, study, and a never ending search for your own unique, artistic voice. The really hard part is striving hard to be the best musician and artist you can be. Great music does come from the heart, people just use different tools to achieve their goals. Don't give up just because somethng seems difficult at first!
@morganash88 man, those "feeling" arguments are so stupid. "All the greatest music ever"...What do you know about the process of all "great music ever written"? Who cares about the process or what tools being used to create art? Its what we hear that counts, what a person "felt" when playing stuff doenst bother me at all. Best, Sandemose
@Sandemose Well I obviously know more than you about music - being a musician. Most people do 'care' about music and where it comes from, your in a minority of one...
@morganash88 I checked out your channel. You sound good (IMHO) and you do your thing. I dont know if you know more about music than I, I myself would never say such a thing to anyone. For me music is perhaps something completly different than what it is for you? Being in a "minority of one" doesnt really matter I must say (I know that isnt true). I still cant see any problems with using all possiblities to express yourself. That is music to me. Finding new solutions to unanswerable questions.
@morganash88 dude dont u realize the pedal isnt going to create the music for u?>... DOI!!... its only helping with tones, and looper and that shit!.... this is only saving u time of either getting a drummer and a keyboard player or synthesiser....
Very Niceee! Any tips on emulating Lyle Mays Lead sound as in The First Circle (Calliope-ish, but not quite). Thank you.

I want to play with the original sound of the guitar pickup, plus an organ sound, and bass sound on the last two strings. Can I do that?

@morganash88 from the heart? Is a freaking muscle. What could possibly come from that?

@Sandemose All the greatest music ever written comes 'from the heart' ie: with Feeling!
