I think Brave New World is probably a more accurate version of how things will be. Rather than an obviously oppressive regime, people will be in more like an open prison, kept stupid with "entertainment" like TV game shows. A bit like now in fact.

This is my favorite book of all time. I have read it without pause (except for dear sleep) and although it is the best story for any political nerd who's a libertarian as myself, it has one of the worst endings I have ever read. Not worst to say a bad ending, but worst to say the most disappointing and saddest endings. More gut-wrenching that Romeo and Juliets or Brave New World. This is my favorite book of all time. I have read it without pause (except for dear sleep) and although it is the best story for any political nerd who's a libertarian as myself, it has one of the worst endings I have ever read. Not worst to say a bad ending, but worst to say the most disappointing and saddest endings. More gut-wrenching that Romeo and Juliets or Brave New World. This ending suggest that everyone, even freedom preachers, has the capacity to submit to "Big Brother".

This is not true. Nothing is separated, everything is connected. Atoms, molecules, objects, planets, all interact with each other. Light itself interacts with the object of attention. We assume that it has only of minor effect on the object, but still we can't observe something without affecting it.

@chemerich I can give you many examples of scientific laws and theories that don't refer to or depend on this duality. Say there's a ball on the table, one which I describe as being dark. The ball is only dark because there are lighter objects to which I can compare it. But should I take away these objects, the ball will still retain whatever property it possessed that prompted me to describe it as "dark". My description was inadequate because it only described a relationship, not the object.

Any observation is a relationship between the observer and the observed. In other words, you can't describe an object without having a relationship with the object. That is the basic message of quantum theory.

I've already shown that referential descriptions are often made, and you're only reiterating that. In any case, I could still describe the object as reflecting 500-510nm light, which doesn't rely on my relationship with it, though I'd be at a loss to describe its position or any other property that only arose as a relationship. And no, uncertainty qm's "moral".

My point was, that nothing exists by itself. Everything exists only in it's relation to everything else, because everything is interconnected. There are no electrons without protons and vice versa.

@chemerich You just keep shifting goal posts, don't you? "Everything" =/= opposites. And no, you may not be able to observe a discrete object, but it still exists regardless of this. An electron still possesses the electromagnetic properties it possessed when in the presence of *positrons (you probably meant positrons, not protons...) when removed from the vicinity of the positrons.
But since you can do nothing but dance around meretriciously, I'd rather not continue with this discussion.

The very fact that they both exist disqualifies them as diametric opposites, as the only true opposite to extant object would be a nonexistent one; this and the fact that they share mass, and whatever other similarities we are yet to discover.
The party's opposition is another party with an agenda, with an ideology, consisting of individuals who share these things. Not opposites.

It depends on the properties you are comparing. Electrons and protons have equal mass but opposite charges. So from an electric point of view, they are true opposites.

Electrically they are the same. English is not my native language and I know that there are many differences between British English and American English. So I was a little bit confused by the word "positron". Anyway, I'm not a particle physicist. My point was, that you can only speak of duality with respect to a specific property or a specific set of properties.

The notion that diametric opposites exists is simplistic and naïve, and it ignores the subtle similarities between the purported opposites. The only true dichotomous relationships exist between concepts, for example the concept of nonexistence vs existence, and good vs bad.

Gotta love how the opening speech is done in front of a big red V while using the Pink Floyd salute. Orwell was wrong though; people have chosen to love having Big Brother look at them. They love phones that track and record, computers that trace backlog and transmit all your info, cars that tell on you, etc, etc, etc. Go read Huxley Brave New World. In that one people embrace and love their controllers.
