@XRavenedgeX It should have no problem running on XP since it works perfectly fine on Vista. One good place to look is good old games, which is a site similar to steam that sells older video games for cheap. If you get this one you should also get Freespace 2 as it's the better of the two games.
@Darashiva Thanks for the info.definately interested in No 2 too & Dark Horizon looks interesting.. I seriously need to get Tachyon-The Fringe again,as i never got far into that first time round..
Great game and great review - except for one thing that always bugs me with retro game reviews. The way a reviewer always compares the graphics with today's games It would be much simpler to say "the graphics were top notch at the time for a Space game" and assume your viewers are intelligent enough to know that when you say "a 1998 game" that it isn't going to have Crysis graphics!
Nice review - this game and Freespace 2 are now on GOG.com for $6 each, DRM free, although you could just get Freespace 2 and then download fs2_open via the auto installer by Turvey and get the Freespace 1 campaign in FS2 graphics! You also get a ton of other campaigns as well, that have all been done really well!
ohh god nostalgia, i never played the full version of this game, although i'd like to, but i did play the demo which was great. i never really got around to buying the whole thing.
Vague memories of my bro playing the first couple Descent games way back when.... Would like to play them someday, but scared of how they've aged... Then again, I managed to play through Half-Life 1 and Metroid 2 this year, so I should survive.
That guy is ugly...
