Thank you for uploading this. As a man in my twenties, I sometimes feel like I'm alone in my love for these amazing classics. Turn on my ipod and it's filled with Sam Cook.
And I think he did this as a tribute to his minister father, who he deeply respected. According to Sam's brother, the song was a showpiece for the Rev. Cook when Sam was growing up - this time Sam's ministry was allowed to shine. What a loss that we couldn't have had an entire concert of this, by the mature Cooke.
What a jewel. Only Sam could take one of the oldest gospel songs ever, totally make it sound completely his own, definitively; and in the process get an upscale white nightclub audience to sing along with him on it. A true giant soul master; we won't see his likes again.
If you love this then come check out " Tragedy and Triumph, THE LIFE OF A SONG SINGER SAM" @ the Music Hall, Downtown, Detroit, MI.. December 30, 2010 - Jan 2, 2011... Get your tickets at ticket master now!!!!
I recently watched the debut episode of the Showtime series "The Big C" and I wasn't sure if I liked the show. Then, as the credits were rolling, this song began to play. I decided that I LOVED this show. Any television show that is smart enough to include a Sam Cooke song, is pretty smart.
@bootney66 Saw The Big C last night on More4, here in the British Isles, and couldn't agree more, a perfect Mad Men-esque way to sum up the episode's mood. Very nice after Laura Linney's moving soliloquoy :-)
It's like that for everyone, wishing to see a musician that has now passed on, or band that will never perform again, only because of the time we are born, that has made us miss the live performances. But the music lives on.
So just don't forget about the MUSIC that plays now, that will be great in 50 years still, that you have an opportunity to see. New becomes Old, and Old if it's good becomes Classic and lasts forever!
@noralem Your Lucky to have been alive, i wasnt even a thought for almost 20 years. I always wished that i was alive and of age, I would see all the greats that i love. Thanks for comment. Much Love Ali
