In Islam, it's the Quran and the teachings of Mohammad and his successors.The recipe for violence, sexual discrimination, and intolerance is ingrained in the Quran and Mohammad's lifestyle. That's why radical muslims have no difficulty justifying their crimes based on their book. Also is the notion that Islam is the superior religion and muslims are therefore encouraged to "spread their faith" by any means.

In order to survive, Iranians were forced to comply with a religion that was, even at that time, far less civil than their own, and this has been a source of deep resentment among many of them towards Islam and even Arabs ever since.
