The gold gives up 3 PROTONS.
The result is Au+3 ions and Au-3 ions.

i think u got cathode and anode mixed up.
cathode = positive electrode.
anode = negative electrode.
@Tutimpulse For a voltaic cell: cathode = positive electrode, anode = negative electrode.
For an electrolytic cell: cathode = negative electrode, anode = positive electrode.
