If ever there was a song for alcoholics, this is it...18-20 year old girls come and go, the whiskey is always there, I recommend Gibson's Sterling edition...Johnettes' voice is about as smooth...
It sad to say that this song is about being in love with an alcoholic. Concrete Blonde lead singer Johnette Napolitano wrote it about Marc Moreland of the band Wall Of Voodo. Moreland died of liver failure in 2003 . Ray in PA
please go to fibonacci sequence and watch, but make sure you read sir10661s comments while watching, vary important, ties mathmatics and emotion togethar do you remember being a kid
Johnette's voice is like leather tempered by silk; the guitar playing is melodic, smooth and elegiac, and their drummer is EXTREMELY HOT!!! Never mind that he's playing a deep-pocket groove...he's just out and out hot!
@silverpilot1979 No one gives a shit about your blatantly sesquipedalian 'opinion' or whether or not you think the drummer is 'hot.' Try making the post more about the video and less about yourself.
@cardrdr First off, you mouth-breathing primate, I am entitled to scatter my opinion(s) about the Interhole as I please; if you don't like it, douse yourself in acid. Secondly, as the video has nearly nothing to do with the song in question, I chose to comment on the song, NOT the video, you cum-guzzling douchebag.
@silverpilot1979 I cop to the mouth-breathing primate, but not that last one. Furthermore, i'd rather thought douchebags guzzle vaginal secretions, not cum. Learn something every day i do. Oh, and proclaiming the drummer "HOT" is not "commenting on the song" - it's commenting on the video. Game, set and i do believe, match?
@cardrdr Man, I just had to say that this was probably the most well constructed comment, pertaining to an argument, that I have ever read on YouTube. Absolutely classic, and well done...
Brilliant song, saw them live in 2001(-ish), they killed this song. It kinda has some sentimental value to me cuz I've been a "Joey" before- I had a woman leave me because I became an addict and a boozer. Years later, I'm clean, we've reunited (as friends) and she's one of the most awesome people in my life.
Man, she had great vocal range but on top of that she is very smooth. If you listen to her vocals with really good headphones she barely inhales/exhales when she sings. Total control and lots of volume in those lungs, not loudness but capacity
That's Paul Thompson on drums from Roxy Music, and Mankey from the original LA line up of Sparks. Paul's drums and Mankey's guitar were the backbones of those groups. I hope they're doing well these days.
I never found my Johnette, and its too late now. If you havent got a $1,000,000 in the bank and a body like Arnold Schwarzenneger you're a worthless piece of shit, and nowadays, women tell you as much. Oh well, there's always good old Isaac Boy champion woofy.
@AntipodeanStar Hahaah yeah 'cause being broke/unnattractive is gender specific, right??? You're single 'cause girls dig money and muscles, right? Hahaha yeah.. THAT'S why you're single.....sure! And also, goddd forbid a scenario where a lady ever be picky after 200+ years of systematic oppression! There's a fine line between wallowing in self pity and just being boarderline sexist and offensive.

"Iceland Won't Stop Whaling Until We Impose Sanctions" By Pierce Brosnan August 5, 2011: "When it comes to whaling, Iceland is an international outlaw. Years of global negotiations and declarations have failed utterly to end its illegal slaughter of whales. It's time to send Iceland a message it can't ignore: Trade sanctions. We can make it happen if hundreds of thousands of us speak out now. " w w w. thepetitionsite. com/takeaction/246/391/778/
Reminds me of someone a long time ago who loved this song, when time was simpler for us. She was one of a kind, BUT in the end, at least we had it for a while!
This is a very good song. Love the video. Lets not get carried away though. "Genius" is a big word. Da Vinci was a genius. Maybe there have been 10 others in the history of the world. Writing and performing one good song or two or three or even four doesn't make you a genius.......far from it. If you make 5 or 6 complete albums where song after song is very, very good then maybe we can have a conversation about it. These people have enough talent to where they made this terrific song.
@ericdf100 Maybe Joey has a high paying corporate job and all the pressure has pushed him to drink... and maybe he gets no sympathy because everybody thinks he is high rolling and doing well, when really, he has a million dollar decision to make for his company and he just needs a drink!
This song is about being in love with an alcoholic. Concrete Blonde lead singer Johnette Napolitano wrote it about Marc Moreland of the band Wall Of Voodo. Moreland died of liver failure in 2003 . Ray in PA

I never really heard of CB before when they where new on the scene..forgot how I found them..think I heard GOD IS A BULLET and I was hooked..but Joey is their best :)
@jwp290 I am going through this right now. I had to break-up with a woman I totally love because of her drinking. At my age I may never have another chance, but I couldn't continue to be a part of that sickness.
oK,well thats much better, i can now listen to it again without feeling like half a fag over here . i still like it better when i thought it was a lesbeian love song though >HOT
Excellent song. I have loved it since I heard it once on the radio in High School. And I loved seeing the musicians play their instruments instead of flailing around all over the stage trying to "dance".
i dont care what the song means, it just lets the sad demons out of me. the kind that sneak up on you when you least expect it. when your sad or depressed. when you start to think that life isn't worth living. then you listen to a sad song like this and think. life goes on.
