  • Beautiful song with ugly subject matter

  • Johnette always reminded me of Kim Carnes. I always loved those smokey voices. Just very haunting.

  • lol

  • remember dancing drunk on picnic table smashing empties on ground..

  • aleays liked the Song.. Always think about her singing Joey and I see her and she reminds me of Joey Ramone..

  • If ever there was a song for alcoholics, this is it...18-20 year old girls come and go, the whiskey is always there, I recommend Gibson's Sterling edition...Johnettes' voice is about as smooth...

  • The Horrible Crowes brought me here.

  • LOVE THE SONG ,,HEAR THE MESSAGE ,VERY CLEAR ..

  • This and Aerosmith "What it takes". Great ballads.

  • drink it!!!!!!

  • Hehehe Ironic considering my Mom named me after this song.

Thankfully I'm nothing like the guy in this song and I think that's what makes her so happy

  • Sexy

  • please go to fibonacci sequence and watch, but make sure you read sir10661s comments while watching, vary important, ties mathmatics and emotion togethar do you remember being a kid

  • Johnette's voice is like leather tempered by silk; the guitar playing is melodic, smooth and elegiac, and their drummer is EXTREMELY HOT!!! Never mind that he's playing a deep-pocket groove...he's just out and out hot!

  • @silverpilot1979 No one gives a shit about your blatantly sesquipedalian 'opinion' or whether or not you think the drummer is 'hot.' Try making the post more about the video and less about yourself.

  • @cardrdr First off, you mouth-breathing primate, I am entitled to scatter my opinion(s) about the Interhole as I please; if you don't like it, douse yourself in acid. Secondly, as the video has nearly nothing to do with the song in question, I chose to comment on the song, NOT the video, you cum-guzzling douchebag.

  • @silverpilot1979 I cop to the mouth-breathing primate, but not that last one. Furthermore, i'd rather thought douchebags guzzle vaginal secretions, not cum. Learn something every day i do. Oh, and proclaiming the drummer "HOT" is not "commenting on the song" - it's commenting on the video. Game, set and i do believe, match?

  • @cardrdr Man, I just had to say that this was probably the most well constructed comment, pertaining to an argument, that I have ever read on YouTube. Absolutely classic, and well done...

  • Great song, I like it alot.

  • She sounds just like Mickey Thomas from Jefferson Starship

  • Brilliant song, saw them live in 2001(-ish), they killed this song. It kinda has some sentimental value to me cuz I've been a "Joey" before- I had a woman leave me because I became an addict and a boozer. Years later, I'm clean, we've reunited (as friends) and she's one of the most awesome people in my life.

  • Awesome. Thank You for posting. :)

  • Man, she had great vocal range but on top of that she is very smooth. If you listen to her vocals with really good headphones she barely inhales/exhales when she sings. Total control and lots of volume in those lungs, not loudness but capacity

  • fantastic song!!!

  • I only discovered it last year.

This song is awesome and has lasted the test of time.

  • Amazing...

  • 2eew2ewz2weezwww24eeàrezevw

  • That's Paul Thompson on drums from Roxy Music, and Mankey from the original LA line up of Sparks. Paul's drums and Mankey's guitar were the backbones of those groups. I hope they're doing well these days.

  • @Themanwhocameback2 Great comment. The group was very underrated, and the critics blasted them. I've always loved the band and the song!

  • why is the sound so low?

  • This is one of the best songs ever!!!!

  • This is one of the best songs ever!!I agree!!!

  • That vocal delivery! Wow!

  • Amazing song, better than 99% of the crap thats out now.

  • This still has a punch 20 years after it was released ...one of the best tunes out of the 90's !

  • fucking beautiful man, this shit is the shit

  • AWESOME

  • Her unplugged version gives you chills, so damn good!

  • Best frontwoman ever. Every bit as good as Freddie Mercury. Makes me proud to be human kinda good.

  • Fantastic song. Fantastic voice.

  • @balbus2 yep, thats a haunting tune for sure .

  • great song. would like to here the Ramones do this.

  • @dlaubsc You're 0-2. The word is 'hear.'

  • @dlaubsc The good ramones are all dead.

  • great song. would like to her the Ramones do this.

  • This entire album was great.

  • I never found my Johnette, and its too late now. If you havent got a $1,000,000 in the bank and a body like Arnold Schwarzenneger you're a worthless piece of shit, and nowadays, women tell you as much. Oh well, there's always good old Isaac Boy champion woofy.

  • @AntipodeanStar Hahaah yeah 'cause being broke/unnattractive is gender specific, right??? You're single 'cause girls dig money and muscles, right? Hahaha yeah.. THAT'S why you're single.....sure! And also, goddd forbid a scenario where a lady ever be picky after 200+ years of systematic oppression! There's a fine line between wallowing in self pity and just being boarderline sexist and offensive.

  • Love stinks.

  • Love it love it loveit.

  • "And if it's love you're lookin' for, then I can give a little more" A woman who understands.

  • women are drawn to train wrecks like moths are to fluorescent lights

  • @troglodyto

    lol!

  • @troglodyto and us train wrecks will be forever grateful

  • @sirwob The video reminds me so much of when I was in my thirties. Lots of lonely times and drunken nights by myself.

  • @troglodyto too funny!

  • always loved this song . it's for two special guys in my life I miss both of you so much it hurts. thanks for sharing this awesome lady and her great song

  • This song is incredible. Her voice is so powerful when she screams "I'm not angry anymoooore" in the last verse

  • If only a woman would give a shit about me as much as she does.

  • dit is gewoonweg prachtig

    snelle Eddy

  • This song and band is so underrated. Such talented artists and beautiful song. LOVE IT!

  • She has a fantastic voice!!!

  • I like how the drummer of Roxy Music and an ex-guitarist of Sparks rose again in the late 80's to create this wonderful music with Johnette.

  • love this song :D

  • another great song...just missed out on my top 100.

  • An OLD Favorite !

  • Reminds me of someone a long time ago who loved this song, when time was simpler for us. She was one of a kind, BUT in the end, at least we had it for a while!

  • Great song. Sappy video.

  • I remember the first I heard Johnette was on "Who's Holding You Now?" and since then I've been hooked. She has such a beautiful voice.

  • 25 people are drunk and passed out on the lawn.

  • Oh this is my song Joey baby don't get crazy

  • this song seems to rip off like 1 million things at once

  • @moonpeep Fuck you idiot

  • I miss you Adrianna. Thanks for giving me this cool band.

  • Beautiful Johnette i never forget your voice!!!

  • I'm not sure that I've ever heard lyrics which describe alcoholics, and the people who love them, any better than this, Great song.

  • My name is Joey...i aint no alchololic...but i do love my hash !!

  • fuck the ads

  • the guy on guitar bought a chair from me at the Rose Bowl woo hoo

  • This is a very good song. Love the video. Lets not get carried away though. "Genius" is a big word. Da Vinci was a genius. Maybe there have been 10 others in the history of the world. Writing and performing one good song or two or three or even four doesn't make you a genius.......far from it. If you make 5 or 6 complete albums where song after song is very, very good then maybe we can have a conversation about it. These people have enough talent to where they made this terrific song.

  • Emo's sent me here

  • who is the ass who thoutght joey should be dressed in a suit?

  • @ericdf100 who cares?

  • @ericdf100 Maybe Joey has a high paying corporate job and all the pressure has pushed him to drink... and maybe he gets no sympathy because everybody thinks he is high rolling and doing well, when really, he has a million dollar decision to make for his company and he just needs a drink!

  • This song is about being in love with an alcoholic. Concrete Blonde lead singer Johnette Napolitano wrote it about Marc Moreland of the band Wall Of Voodo. Moreland died of liver failure in 2003 . Ray in PA

  • It has been awhile since I listened to this and I just had it stuck in my head today and I had forgotten how freaking talented she is...I love Johnette!

  • yeah, they can have kim kardashian, britney spears, jessica lopez, and a host of others. but i'd settle on this one... i like her attitude.

  • this woman is incredible. the voice sinds shivers down my spine. and she's so FUCKING hot!!

  • @jacklazzell

Have a look at her from the mid-90s, she's much better.

  • @iNickOwens hijosedelagranputa

  • are there girls that like a guy like Joey?

women are so different in what is angry

  • @mcnoobert

He was a close friend what drank himself to death from what I read.

  • Comment removed

  • Rest In Peace Joey

  • Anyone know who the actor is in this video? I read it was Johnny Depp but, obviously, it isn't. Beautifully tragic song.

  • **that** voice....part gentle breeze,part roar,much ache...

  • Sexy as hell !!!!!

  • I never really heard of CB before when they where new on the scene..forgot how I found them..think I heard GOD IS A BULLET and I was hooked..but Joey is their best :)

  • fucking best song ever

  • @daliskowsky not the best but fucking good

  • joey46760 not the best but dame good

  • this song is about me

  • @kittenk27 your so vain :P

  • So she's a two-headed baby?

    "Hmmmm..Kinky."

    sin,

    Headley Lamar

  • i drink too much. i am .

  • They also do an amazing version of "Beware of Darkness" She has a great haunting voice!

  • like if your name is joey!

  • Don Draper?!?!?!

  • oh,the soooooohting sound of this song is so intense....

  • Comment removed

  • the song could also be about a man who is in a painful codependent relationship with alcoholic woman... where she wont get off the bottle....

  • @jwp290 It's not. The guitarist was an alcoholic and in a relationship with the singer. He ended up dying in 2002.

  • @AWonderVenus Thanks for the info.

  • @jwp290 I am going through this right now. I had to break-up with a woman I totally love because of her drinking. At my age I may never have another chance, but I couldn't continue to be a part of that sickness.

  • I gotta say listening to this song is like taking a bullet when you're in the middle of a break-up with the love of your life, whose name is Joey.

  • AMAZING!

  • Hey look it's Michael Jackson

  • love this 2

  • oK,well thats much better, i can now listen to it again without feeling like half a fag over here . i still like it better when i thought it was a lesbeian love song though >HOT

  • This song is about her relationship with "Wall Of Voodoo" guitarist Marc Moreland who died of liver failure in 2002.

  • Hey john all is forgiven

  • lady gaga's edge of glory sounds alot like this song...wonder if she has gotn 'insperation' from here to?

  • Excellent song. I have loved it since I heard it once on the radio in High School. And I loved seeing the musicians play their instruments instead of flailing around all over the stage trying to "dance".

  • @becedefer No i dont want a Nintendo 3Ds, i came here for music. Shit, we all have. Not for a 3Ds

  • AN ANGEL KISSED THIS LADY BEFORE BIRTH ? TWO HEADED BABY ? I NOW OFFICALLY HATE THIS FUCKIN SONG .THANKS ALOT YOU DOUCHBAG !!

  • two headed baby? omg dude come on it just a fuckin song, listen to it and move on . DAMN!

  • Comment removed

  • @balbus2 I totally agree with you <<< Her voice is incredible!!! both tones very rare to be able to do it male or female!! And it is a great song!!

  • I like the way she moves

  • i dont care what the song means, it just lets the sad demons out of me. the kind that sneak up on you when you least expect it. when your sad or depressed. when you start to think that life isn't worth living. then you listen to a sad song like this and think. life goes on.

  • Johnnette Napalitino=FANTASTIC!!!!

  • Johnette Johannson>>>> AWESOME !!

  • Sooo a male song. Hemi-Joe

  • I Found the Money. JRB

  • dude i liked it better when i thought it was a lesbian love song and joey was a chick

  • @supbroyouchill It's about her relationship with Wall Of Voodoo guitarist Marc Moreland who drank himself to death.

  • You got the Money, but "EYE" don't want your money! SEE! "EYE" don't want your money! SEE! "EYE" don't want your money! SEE!

    "EYE" AM 5

  • 1. It is my “SECRET WAR”

    2. It is my “SECRET WAR”

    3. It is my “SECRET WAR”

    4. It is my “SECRET WAR”

    5. It is my “SECRET WAR”

  • Commercials suck.

  • Johnette Napolitano is the Greatest Rock Singer of all time. Yeah, her voice is way better than Elvis! Don't believe me? Just listen to both and compare... All these super positive comments... Why don't you guys stop by at the johnettenapolitano youtube channel and tell her how much you like her? I'm sure she'd love to hear from you. And perhaps even follow her as she moves through her life: on twitter.com: @therealjohnette ... Internet Shows, and Concert Tours just for you and me!

  • I was born a year after this song was released and it is my absolute favourite

  • So I've loved this song for ages yet somehow I always thought the singer was a guy and "Joey" was a girl. Not sure how that happened, obviously I've never seen the video before today. Anyway I still love this song!

  • Pretty darn good song.

Heard it a few times back when it was new. Too bad I wasn't really listening.

People become lost from overwork too. All that I've sacrificed just to put a buck in my pocket. I feel sort of like the "Wichita Lineman". I missed out on so much.

Oh well....At least I'm still alive and can appreciate a song like this.

  • How come this has only been viewed 600,00 times? Awesome song!

  • totally ripped off the begining drum intro from the jesus & mary chain

  • @italian430PRIDE

Which itself was "ripped off" of countless Phil Spector girl group songs. So?

  • I first heard this song as a little kid and really liked it.

A little while later, I heard it on the radio and scrambled to record what I could on cassette and in all those days before the internet was around, I had no idea how to find out who sung it.

So I was over the moon to find it on here! :D
